Roundball paintballs vs first strike paintballs in a head to head comparison at 30 feet & 60 feet. Smoothbore barrel VS rifled barrel first strike paintballs at 60 feet. All fired from a stable platform with a TipX paintball marker.

I think you made a strong point on this video. Now that you've got the Emek/MG100, it'd be cool to see the results with a longer barrel and longer distance. - The Peanut Gallery :)

Great video. With TiPX there are not too much about FS. And the result with Rifled barrel just like a 6" barrel are so shocking considering its so small barrel. Great test. I hope to see next test with a longer range and even with a longer Rifled barrel and same marker (TiPX). Also with air instead CO2.

I like the test however it is a bit flawed. First you did not chrono at any time. FSR needs to be adjusted as it will typically fire 20 to 30 FPS more with the same barrel over round ball. You also did not mention what the bore was for each barrel, which will make a difference in both air speed and grouping. Finally at 60 feet it is hardly a good comparison. Up to about 50 feet, roundball will have a flat trajectory and will be more in line with the marker so the 30 to 60 foot range for both tests, really did not test the limit of the rounds. With roundball, anything over 50 feet is where you have drop off, and any spin that the ball has will start to overcome it's forward motion which will give you your flyers (paint that veers up, right or left). That the FSR actually tore through the door at the closer range is what scares most field owners because the markers air speed was not dropped down. None the less I liked the test that you had the marker on a stable platform so that you could not blame operator error. Would like to see this test again. For myself I prefer FSR because at a longer range, it stays more within the line of fire than roundball. Your test where the spread on the FSR was greater was surprising, but I believe the air speed was a factor, however with a rifled barrel it had a much tighter group.

thanks for the feedback. I am shooting another video this weekend where I'll fire from longer ranges. I was limited to 60' simply by my yard. I will see what other barrels I can borrow from friends to test as well. Thanks again.

Yes, without enough barrel (& no rifling) I expect that the shaped paint exits the barrel with very little spin, thus relying more on the open air to keep it twisting instead of tumbling. I feel quite certain that a slightly longer barrel would skew the results even farther in favor of the shaped paint. I agree 110% (10% extra due to altitude) about the importance of clocking the shots with each type of paint, to ensure that exit velocities are as close to equal as possible. Gotta match exit velocities to compare accuracy. On that subject,

I am not convinced. How do we know that it was the rifling which made the difference?

@@juanzulu1318 ok so ill explain: a first strike with a smooth bore barrel will take longer to reach its 'peak'. if you used a rifled barrel however it will make it reach its 'peak' quicker. hope this helped
