The days of RM coming to an end route 137 lost their RMs on 9th July 2004 (just over a month after this footage was filmed) 159 a further year and half on 9th December 2005 becoming the last RM to have regular service.but a least this footage bribgs back great memories of RMs on Londons streets.
The only thing missing is London Transport in gold on the side, but I guess that’s academic as I suspect all the RMs have gone now. I used to travel up King’s Avenue to Streatham Hill when I was a Tacker where my Mum and I would pick up the old 118, in those Days it was good old RTs. I can even remember when they dug up the Tram Rails to Brixton Depot. Thanks for sharing.
Not many drivers wearing ties or uniforms but don't forget that hiviz no standards these days shows the benefit of devolution I was proud to be a driver it was a career now it's just another job.
Funny you should say that, I've only just got into historic buses in the last couple of years after coming across the series on the buses (I'm only 34) but been mad on them since and looked into the old days, it seemed being a bus driver was a proper career with really smart uniforms. Bit like steam train drivers, they were like celebrities in there own towns or if not they were looked up to by many and respected in the community. I think the difference may be that most people didn't have cars in the old days so people driving big machines like this must have looked pretty special guys!
