After watching this I went and bought the Ryobi trim router and man I love it! I do a good bit of farmhouse style woodwork and have avoided using a router but this trim router makes it easy and looks professional! Thanks for the video!

I'm used to larger, corded routers ru-vid.comUgkxfQ5_mgwq6PcudJvAH25t-I4D-3cTPz4z so this was a different experience for me. Basically, this is an incredibly sweet machine, fits well in the hand, etc. It has slightly less power than I'm used to, but that's understandable. Maneuvering freehand takes some practice. These days, it's especially nice to be able to avoid power cords. This is above the level of a hobbyist but below a pro level.

I just ordered my first hand/palm router. My dad built custom furniture and cabinets for years but I never got into it and didn't pay much attention. After many years, I'm finally taking my interest in it and stocking up on woodworking tools. Great informative video! Thanks!

great video....one thing I have come across as I have explored routers.....my manual , and I have heard several on YT say that when you put the bit in, you should pull it back out ever so slightly, 1/8 " or less, because the collet draws down on it when you tighten.

Call me sexist wtv but being a female beginner wood worker i feel a lot more comfortable taking instructions from a female and seeing you doing this and knowing your sh*t thoroughly without any arrogant comments about how basic this information is, im thankful i found your video. My man just got me my second router but this one im learning is a wood trimmer router, a bit,hehe different much smaller but easy to to hold and maneuver. The bigger router he got be for xmas, is old, great quality but he got it on ebay, him not knowing what he was buying not being a wood worker at all, hes in the classic car auto body painting career, but he was thinking the big brand name would be efficient...But unfortunately I cant find any bits or adapter parts for it other than in the vintage category on ebay which are way more expensive than regular bits for newer routers. Not on Amazon, which is my main place to buy a lot of my tools cus its just convenient and fast. Thats why he just got me this one, almost all the bits on Amazon will work for this router trimmer. Anywho..thank you for sharing your knowledge!

Great video and demo. Very well done. I like that you had the camera on a tripod (guessing) and the lighting was perfect. Some You tubers hold the camera while doing the demo and the video is all over the place. But not you. Also, that you had your hair neatly in place when doing the demo (At the beginning I was wondering if you would do that). If you were being paid by Home Depot, they got their moneys worth.

I’ve got quite a bit of experience in the machine shop and wood shop so I should know what I need to do but I also know I’m always learning. Happy New Year!

Just a heads up a big plunge router might be bigger and cost you more but but has more options (more collars 1/2 and 1/4 and some have the option to attach to a router table). A router bit that is 1/2 is usally more stable.

Using a pedal for shutoff maybe handy. You can keep your hands safe while turning off/on.

Really good explanation. Thanks. I’m now wishing I’d got the cordless trim. Bought corded Ryobi but the depth mechanism is way more sloppy and clumsy than what I see you using. I didn’t really know what to look for and can’t really justify buying another just now.

Hi, nice video. I am a home owner and i'm planning to do the woodworking maintenance at home myself and that is mending wooden things that are old and damaged and making new things like wooden cabinets, chairs etc. I'm not planning to start a woodworking business. One week ago i bought a plunge router and it is a heavy beast. Later on i saw the trim router on the internet and i think that would get more use after seen what you can do with a trim router. I'ts also lighter and more maneuverable. Question is do i still need to buy the trim router and keep the plunge router for heavy duty stuff? Or is it a waste of money to buy the trim router? I was wondering how you keep your trim router from biting in too far? Your cuts are nice and straight.... I tried using my ryobi trim router straight out of the box on a nice antique dresser top and now have to replace that top. Is there supposed to be a guide of some sort on it or what? Do I purchase that separately? Please help! I don't want this to happen twice.

Hi, bought one of these yesterday and been practicing with it a little and your video has really helped with. Quick question though. Using the example in the video, what if you wanted to round the edge the entire length of the wood, how do you start at the corner when the bearing has no guide and when you come to the end, if the bearing has nothing to guide against will you not end up rounding up the corner as well as the edge (not sure if I’m explaining myself properly here)

Hey Brandi, I liked your demonstration on routers and router safety here, I have been doing wood work now for just about three years and I tried the Ridgid battery powered router. I was actually somewhat disappointed that the router did not perform well, I wanted your feedback as to how you liked the Ryobi battery powered tool? I'm just hesitant to buy another router if it will not perform well. Hope your safe out there and keep building!

quite informative. I feel you need to insert the router bit, deeper than what you have shown. There should be just 1/8" gap between bottom of the bit and the collet nut.

I want to get into woodworking and one of my first jobs is replacing a tabletop. I want to cut a 3m surface into 2 1.5m surfaces. I read somewhere that a router can do this, but from watching this video I am not sure. Is a router what I need or maybe a circular saw? If the router can do it then I would like the router as I might do the edges.

You should mention that you should disconnect the power from the router before changing out a bit.
