Following a series of challenging phone conversations and extensive email exchanges, I successfully had my dry loops set up by the telephone company. Dry loops are unique circuits that are not linked to any equipment at the telephone company's end. Essentially, they are straightforward point-to-point analog circuits located within what is known as the same Wire Center. This video showcases my project where I've connected a step switch to a dry loop in my office, located on the opposite side of town, fed by the switch in the basement of my house. This event is particularly significant as it represents the first time since the digital overhaul in my area in the 80s that a dial tone from an electromechanical switch (a key component in early telephone systems) has been transmitted over these lines. These were once the lifelines to an electromechanical exchange, marking something that has not been don for decades! Unfortunately, the town is going fiber next year, so these circuits wont be around long.
