That felt like an awful lot of effort for you to go through to tell Boaty that Fred the Shed's going nowhere 😉

This is dangerously close to one of those professional reviews you would expect from What Car? or Top Gear in 2002 before they went all giddy with the fame. Had the last film not been so fast moving and chaotic I might have missed the fast moving chaos, but as it is I have enjoyed the informative, well presented and hard won insight into the Rover 75. You’ve done a much better job than Paddy out of Max and Paddy, but he’s the one that is always on the telly and probably has the most expensive house in Bolton and not you. Life just doesn’t make sense at times. I bought a new hat today, but now I’ve got it home I’m not as sure I will wear it as I was in the hatters, though calling it a hatters is really overstating JD Sports.

Imagine Paul on Top Gear… This is the new Peugeot 90002 and to test it, what I’ve done is stripped it into its component pieces and I’m going to be storing them in this shed for 20 years before trailering them off to be weighed in. Back to the studio…’

Very honest review from someone with plenty of experience. Making people aware of the problems isn't scare mongering, it's avoiding buyers being bankrupted! I had a V-reg 75 Connoisseur 2.5 V6 auto, all the nice early model Cowley built bits inc very cool Rover logo in the front headrests, real wood etc , but I was thoroughly underwhelmed. Shocked by the lack of go and the terrible fuel consumption I sold it within weeks.

I had 2001 rover 75 v6 2.0 the suspension was gone but then the engine sounded like there was a tin of n screws shaking about.. scrapped £150.. I paid £250 purchase price for Y137 TOH.. It cost me £300 mot wise. I am sure I valeted these TOH cars in a Rugby car wash. 2nd car mental electrical gremlins 52 1.8 T scrapped £100 Purchase price was £460 for BL52 LVH beautiful looking car I then went into buying Ford Mondeo's Graphite came first and 2nd Titanium 2.2 TDCI. One day I will get another 75 but I love estate cars. Currently looking at Rolls Royce Silver Spur not while I live in council 1 bed flat lol...

There's one more, HUGE issue with the KV6 engines - the VIS system and Inlet Manifold. If your VIS motors break, that's not a big problem - you can fix them or buy new ones - they're still on the market, but if your Manifold breaks (and it will)... That's a big problem cause they're unavailable and even if you find one - it costs some nightmarish money... You can't fix them too cause they're all plastic. There are more issues that Nigel didn't mention and overall - getting 75/ZT has to be a really well thought buy...

I've got a 1st edition 75 1.8t in that nightfire red , for some reason mine doesn't grow cabbages , but is does seem too stink of weed ??? God knows why ! As it belonged too an old gentleman before me ! With only 2 owners including me ! And I don't grow weed in it ! If I ever get stopped by the old bill I think they will strip it !

Great review. Ive had my diesel auto for 4 years now and its been a great car. It had a remap a few years before I owned it so its quite quick. Although its a facelift its had a few PPD items added back which is a nice touch.

As a recent owner of a beautiful 2005 3 series e46. I can confirm that BMWs are woefully unreliable. I wholeheartedly agree with you regarding the BMW bits on rover 75’s

Good information video on what to look out for on a 75 by Mr Mustard. An honest review by a man that knows through experience and a rover enthusiast to boot. The suspension issue to me was very enlightening it's as if BMW made sure they sabotaged the 75. Is there a fix though to replace the shoddy Beamer parts?

So a Rover 75 with some rot issues in the rear end, slightly rotten on the front end, and rotting sills, broken window switches, door glass that doesn't go up or down, a leaking sun roof or windscreen, floppy door cards and saggy headlining, broken cup holders, worn out droplinks, non functioning bonnet and boot release, and dodgy head gaskets...is it still a good purchase Mustard?. I would like a pre face lift 75 in black, but with a V8...I could live with the pain at the petrol pump were the V8s only in the face lifted 75s Mustard?.

You will have to test drive/review my Cowley built PPD 75 1.8 - it has had new rear springs and dampers, new drop links, one new front damper, and new rear lower arm bushes at the front - so doesn't bang/clang over bumps at all. At under 83000 miles it's nicely run in too!

dangit, I desperately don't want to want a 75 Tourer diesel auto and have felt that way since they brought em out. Now I even more desperately don't want to want a 75 tourer diesel auto, and we're just in the stage of looking for a 2nd (3rd) car. My only hope is Road Fund licence is extortionate.

Enjoyed this. Cupla points from down under. MGR was forced to delete the drivers side cupholder for safety reasons. So in their defence they weren't being cheap. If lucky you can find one. Bonnet junction is fixed by flipping it over in its holder. Boot latch is fixed by simply turning the rubber stops. Interesting that none of the corrosion fails apply to cars here. It never rains. But we have heat related issues. Brittle plastics etc. I still don't know how to buy Nigel stickers or merch. Cheers.

The rover 75 was most regarded as the best car rover ever made. I tend to disagree I like the 600 best

@rarevhsuploads4995
@rarevhsuploads4995 Месяц назад
Whilst I prefer the 75 I agree the 600 is the most overlooked good car from Rover. What a shame they never built a 600 Tourer as the lines of the car could have blended well into an estate body.

Have always said the 75 tourer auto diesel was the best and with one of my remaps giving 160bhp and with the auto box changing where the power band is to where you can actually use it gave great mpg. Load space was better than small vans. Awesome cars.

I’ve got two and a ZT and they’re no more expensive to maintain than any other car of its size/age. Any old car requires repair but that’s more than offset against depreciation of a new car.
@Andrew-mv5zt
@Andrew-mv5zt Месяц назад
Ridiculous summary. The 75 is in classic territory - with the youngest being 19 years old. So the premise that you need to buy the most 'reliable' diesel is silly (also ignoring that the M47 has plenty of issues that you didnt mention). As a long term classic car proposition, which the 75s are for the majority of people who aren't RU-vidrs, the petrols are the best. They're quieter, smoother, have purity in that they are ROVER engines, and perhaps most importantl, petrols are far more future proofed than diesels are. Enter most big cities with a 75 diesel and you'll have to pay for the privilege. This will only get worse...
@Andrew-mv5zt
@Andrew-mv5zt Месяц назад
Additionally, the earlier Longbridge 75s are regarded by the overall best built. They don't suffer as much from the rot that the Cowley cars do and haven't lost the nice materials used in the Cowley cars. Unfortunately people get confused between build quality and perceived quality.
