I like to think that he passed away late at night, and as he was walking up to those gates, he just started playing this on his own bagpipes, annoying the hell out of everyone. Everyone except for Dusty. As soon as Dusty heard the Green Hills bellowing throughout the skies, he got whoever was in charge to open the gates, and the American Dream was the first person to hug the Hot Rod. Thank you both for all your dedication to the business. Thank you for the amazing matches. Thank you for the timeless memories. Rest in peace Dusty and Roddy. Just.... Thank you
Will never forget the first and only time I saw him wrestle in person at Halloween Havoc '97. When he and Hollywood fought on the top of the cage they were perfectly lined up to where I was sitting. I've been to numerous wrestling events, major ones, but that moment and visual was beyond magical. You just had to be there. And I was. And I'm glad for that memory. What a great man. Reality ✔
This is the Green Hills of Tyrol. My high school band played this song in the old Santa Claus Lane Parade, later called the Hollywood Christmas Parade. My high school was Granada Hills High School. We were called the Highlanders.
don't for get The Ultimate Warrior & Randy Savage & Mr. Perfect & André the Giant & Owen Hart & Yokozuna & The British Bulldog & Big Boss Man & Rick Rude & Jimmy Snuka & Nikolai Volkoff & Junkyard Dog & Big Van Vader & Brian Pillman they are in HEAVEN too
Glögi Silli Ronda Rousey said she will dedicate her match on Saturday night to Piper since he was such a major influence on her. I hope she comes out in a kilt with his music. That would be the tightest thing ever!
Did anyone else yell "no!" out loud when they heard the news? :( RIP Hot Rod!! Thanks for the years of entertainment and sacrifice.. He's up there with Baby Jesus now.
***** You need to check Piper's Pit Podcast.. "Baby Jesus" was a phrase used by Piper a lot, a substitute for "Oh My God" if you will. I'm not even religious.
***** I did! We're losing all the greats! I grew up watching him wrestle. back when u could take your kids to a match and not have it be a soft porn show!
2024. Still stings. You could still have been here, god I'd love to see pipers pit with Cody or the bloodline, Gunther and even Logan Paul, would play nicely off of pipers former celebrity segments
I can see it now, a procession of holy bagpipers and drummers leading Roddy to those Pearly Gates, and St. Peter bows his head to the Hot Rod and says, "Aye, Mr. Piper, just when we had the answers, YOU changed the questions. Welcome home."
"There was a soldier, a Scottish soldier Who wandered far away And soldiered far away There was none bolder With good broad shoulder He'd fought in many a fray And fought and won" RIP Rowdy.
Is there a better heel in wrestling history? Is there a heel that became a face because he was SO DAMN GOOD at being a heel? There is one, first, example: "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. No one could get heat like he could, and when he came to WCW to fight Hogan, everyone bowed down because they recognized greatness. "I'm the only man you never beat, Hogan!"
Speechless. Impossible to sum up a loss like this. Piper was my first favorite wrestler growing up. Can't believe those days are over. God bless you Rowdy Roddy.
Rowdy Ronda Rousey and Rowdy Roddy Piper were good friends. Since Ronda is fighting tomorrow, she should come out to his entrance music. That would be awesome.
Agreed that would be awesome! If dana still wants her to use the bad reputation theme, she can use pipers song at the beginning then transition to bad reputation. That would be cool too!
Grew up watching him when the WWE was still the WWF,and you could take your kids to a match, and not be exposed to a soft porn exhibit. Back when the story lines were decent and believable. He'll always be one of my favorite wrestlers..such a great showman!
@deathknight2400 Ric flair made the top ten villains list of all time, including Hitler, Magneto, The Joker, Darth Vader... Piper was top 50, near guys like Stalin, the penguin, lex luthor. They just don't make em like that anymore. The best, worst people ever were mostly fictional, or some facsimile there of. More people hated Roddy Piper growing up than Napoleon. That's telling.
Piper didn't die, God made a contract for Piper for his first debut in the cloud ring in the heaven arena. Piper accepted the contract and left us, living people, his legacy. He will be missed.
The Road Warrior pop honestly had nothing on a Piper out of nowhere return. I got tears just from watching it on tv and he always knew how to space out his returns. You never saw them coming.
As kids we looked up to you because you may not have been the size of Andre or Hogan, but your fighting spirit could conquer nations!!! Back then kids like me who were too small, too short…and always pushed around started to fight back!!! If Roddy could do it… so could we!!! Thank you for showing us “Its not the size of the dog…. its the size of the fight in the dog that counts”. RIP
Roddy Piper should have main evented WM2 as heel champion. It would just make the world a better place to have Hogan vs Heel Champion Piper be a thing that actually happened. But a man can dream. RIP Rowdy Roddy Piper. May you rule for all eternity in Piper's Pit, you cheeky little devil.
Years after Piper passed away, I realized that he was buried at a cemetery in the next town I live in. I live in Beaverton, Oregon and Piper was buried in the next town south of Beaverton in Tigard, Oregon. I knew he lived two towns over to the west of Beaverton in Hillsboro, Oregon in a house and lived in an apartment in Hollywood, California and knew that he died in his apartment. I just figured he was buried somewhere in or near Hollywood. When I get the time, I would love to go visit his grave since I live so close.
What a legend, what an icon Hot Rod, Rowdy, Roddy Piper was & still is even to this day his legacy, his feuds, the matches he had, being related to the Hart family wrestling was in this mans blood & he put on a great show up until his death his legacy will never die he's 1 of the greatest heels of all time this man did more for wrestling then anybody has ever done he came from nothing to bless the hearts of millions with his persona, being a villian on camera to the WWF/WWE universe what an icon i get chills everytime hearing this theme song
I do professional wrestling stuff like matches and shit and Rowdy Roddy Piper is the reason the the Sleeperhold is my finishing move. Long Live Hot Rod
Rest in Pace Roddy you are the Hero of my childhood... No one Can be a greater Legend then you.. You die on my Birthday what a weird coincidence... Your Fans Never forgett you
Rest in peace Rowdy Roddy Piper! Trying to get over the passing of Dusty and this happens.... Another WWF icon unfortunately gone. You will be forever missed by your friends, family and all Wrestling fans! Rest in peace Hotrod!
This was my friends Fav wrestler when he was in the army and passed away in 2015 they played this song at his funeral us army spc lieutenant Joey W Riley R.I.P My friend
I may only be 20 and he may have died awhile ago but that doesn't stop my love for Hot Rod I remember meeting Roddy Piper and he was the nicest man I'd ever met
RIP Piper knowing you are up there in heaven making everyone smile like you did all those times you hosted Pipers pit I only wish I was alive to see you compete
R.I.P. Hot Rod. You will never be forgotten. You will always stay in our hearts and go down in the book of the greatest legends and wrestlers. To you Piper. :(
I grew up watching wrestling in late 2000 and onwards. But I saw Piper on Smackdown during 2003/2004 and I just fell in love with this guy. Great segments so I can't even imagine what his segments in his prime must have been like. One of the best and definitely my favorite other than Undertaker from back in those days. Taken too damn soon, this seriously sucks.
Dusty Rhodes and randy savage and Curt hennig warrior Rick rude and many others just opened the doors up there to a wonderful human being this is too much now Dusty this year and Roddy piper not to mention all the many others that have left us in this business rest easy god bless you Roddy and all my heroes in the wrestling business that have passed away 😥😥😥😥
So much charisma, so much energy, you never knew what this man was gonna say or do next. One of the greatest heels in the business. Could’ve taught them young ones a thing or two about the business and what makes a heel a great heel. R.I.P roddy, you truly were one of the greats that didn’t take no for an answer and chewed bubble gum till you ran out.
