I love what she says, "If there any obstacles you think that are in the way, you will overcome them. Things will just work themselves out." You both are an inspiration to those of us with huge dreams of being on the ocean and living a life of freedom and these videos are part of that inspiration. Thank you. ❤⛵

So many things they said here ring so true. Once I made the decision (heart thumping) to sail solo around the North Atlantic everything just fell into place; the perfect boat came up for sale at a price I could afford and my employer announced that, to save money, they would encourage career breaks. And you guys have taken me back to all the places and feelings of my travels. I think I may sell this couch :-) Thanks

You guys have gotten so good at the documentary style editing. The cutting between conversations and different people's perspectives. It was so great with the first "accessable catamaran" and has gotten better since. Great job guys.

That Welshman is hilarious! Great video. I paddled a large canoe across flat water for 3 days and I found it exhausting. By the end my back and arms were a world of hurt. Of course I had next to no paddling experience and did not train, though I was decently fit and strong. I cannot imagine doing this. Good on 'em, and for a cause.

...... Sailing across an ocean is something that intrigues me and will be done, on the other hand rowing I will not be doing, but a buddy wants to do it, he is all over the idea and has been for a while, first thing for him is to get his throat cancer tamed, then I have no doubt he will do it ..... have fun be safe, save our oceans ......

I’ve myself been rowing for ten years, 2-5 times a week, on a river but I cannot imagine, how you can succeed on rowing such a long time crossing an ocean and facing all weather conditions, no matter what. On a sailing boat, okay I’d do it but in a rowing boat, not my pair of shoes!

In 1966 transiting from Halifax to Lisbon aboard HMCS Chaudiere I was lookout and spotted an overturned boat.We brought it aboard ,it was The Puffin ,a boat this size which tried to row from Virginia to Falmouth.They got caught in very bad weather as was noted in their Log which was still aboard.For Those in Peril on the Sea. You can Google it.

Ever heard of Amyr Klink? He is a Brazilian guy who did the solo crossing from Africa to Brazil in a much smaller rowboat (Paratii). Further down the line he made a sailboat (Paraty I and later II) and spent almost a year solo in Antarctica, including winter. He also wrote a book about his rowing from Africa to Brazil (100 days between sky and sea) which you can buy on Amazon. Not sure if it was ever translated to English tho.

Great episode! I never got the inside scoop on people who do this kind of thing before. 2 questions: - 3 people exert themselves like this must need to consume an amazing amount of calories every day. How do they pack enough food and what do they eat? - the compass is at the stern with them facing aft. Do they have to reverse the compass setting or is there a way to adjust it so if they need to go due south, they are looking at due south. Amazing adventure but I’ll take sails any day.
@SailingUma
@SailingUma 4 года назад
All the food for all 4 ppl is in freeze dried packets. It's a lot of calories to keep on board thats for sure. As for the compass, I believe it is designed for that situation where the entire compass is mirrored so it still gives the proper heading of the vessel when looked at backwards.
