The best voice for Rock/Pop ever
@rsmith7912

My favourite Roxy song. It's just sublime. The siren at the beginning of the song has got to be one of the best intros ever. They were a force to be reckoned with & had so many hits in the uk in the '70s. Well worth looking into their back catalogue too if any younger viewers are seeing this for the first time & liking it. Brilliant band!

I don’t know about “disco”. More like blue-eyed funk/R&B, or as Bowie referred to his own album released at the same time, in the same style… “plastic soul”. This was kind of a forerunner to a lot of those early 80’s new wave funk sounds like Duran Duran, ABC, etc.

I loved Siren & it got a thrashing every Friday night acid party when it arrived with 'Wish You Were Here' in 75. Still love siren, my favorite after the 1st 3 masterpieces. Was lucky enough to see them live in Sydney in 1975 & Eddie Jobson was magnificent. I was slightly trepidatious with Eno exiting but elated I went after the concert that I went.

@Shikta-poobah67
@Shikta-poobah67 5 месяцев назад
The magnitude of his influence cannot be overstated. He was arguably just as innovative and influential a rock and roll frontman/vocalist as Bowie was, only far less heralded. Especially with all the new wave bands of the early 80’s. I remember so many of those singers trying SO hard to ape Bryan’s style, but all of them falling well short. He’s a true original, and just the epitome of cool.

I have to say that Roxy Music were very much of their time, not ahead of their time. The '70's were full of so many terrific artists doing the same kinda stuff but maybe you just weren't around at the time to say that.
@Shikta-poobah67
@Shikta-poobah67 5 месяцев назад
@@rsmith7912Agreed, and I was only 7 years old when this came out. Still, I can remember what an innovative era that was. There were new sounds, styles, and attitudes surfacing constantly. Roxy were definitely on the cutting edge of things, at least during their first run (which was about to come to a close here), but not what I’d really consider “ahead of their time”, and that’s not meant to be derogatory. They were absolutely wonderful, but they were very much a 70’s phenomenon.

As far as late 70’s and early 80’s new wave bands were concerned, there probably wasn’t any other bigger influence than Roxy Music, and especially Bryan Ferry. I could see it with almost every single one of those bands in the very early days of MTV. Of course their influence was much more far reaching than just skinny tie bands, but nowhere else was it more obvious.
