Life's a trip. Always old for my age my mom used to drop me off by myself at the Plano skating rink outside of Dallas when I was 7/8 1975/76. They'd play this song, Thin Lizzy Jailbreak, ZZ Top Tush, Dream Weaver, and some funky stuff from Parliament and Hot Chocolate. Disco, the best rocknroll, and the beginning of punk all in the same era. Damn glad to have been a kid in the 70's!

The best, ever, eh? The naysayers have absolutely NO idea. I feel bad for them, honestly. They have no idea how great it really was. All they can do is read about it and hack on it. My wife and I had sang it ' live ' on stage at the event . So much fun!!! What glorious memories!!! We are still going strong after 35 years, although like others, I presume, there have been ' hiccups' along the way . One thing has NEVER changed. Well, not entirely. For every Roxy Music there was a Minnie Riperton. And don't forget Gilbert O'Sullivan, Terry Jacks, Starland Vocal Band, Paper Lace, etc. Actually we *WOULD* like to forget about them. Thankfully there was CHOM-FM out of Montreal, which reached all the way into Northern Vermont. There you could hear Sparks, Patti Smith, Ian Dury, David Bowie, T-Rex, and of course, Roxy Music amongst plenty of other better yet lesser known music.

@virginiaviola5097 11 месяцев назад
@@SenileOtaku Minnie Riperton? No way, absolutely glorious voice. The song might have been a bit corny, but her voice made it something ethereal. Afternoon Delight was a coffee break song, a quick escape from the books to make a drink so as not to miss the next song. And I still know every word to Billy..and I’m 60. Every alternate you listed to the corny stuff is the music that I was actually into, but even the bad stuff was so bad it was good. These days bad music is just bad, and not in a Michael Jackson way.

@@virginiaviola5097 Well, back in high school I tolerated them (far fewer options for alternative music back then, especially in the Northeast Kingdom). In the 80's I picked up on Punk, the 90's was Belgian Techno, and these days it's Vocaloid, Touhou Doujin, Japanese trance/techno, and various music from anime. Doesn't mean I've stopped listening to Roxy Music et al, just an expanded selection now. I'm 63 and always open for what's happening in the alternative/independent scene.

That's How it feel when we are moved to love something, perhaps even more so with " love is the drug" You can imagine the struggle Bryan had in composing it. In the 70s and 80s there were various visions of a future that could be. Looking at this video, I see that we are now in comparison, an exhausted society. I doubt anyone could have the confidence today to go on stage in the West dressed for higher ideals. Even a pretension of higher ideals. Look at the stunning backup singers. That's vitality! We are a fallen timeline.

According to Wikipedia, this is what Bryan Ferry had to say about his eye: "It wasn't a piratical fashion thing, as many people thought. The day before our taping, I was sent to the hospital to have my eye looked at. I had walked into a door or something. I remember thinking, 'Oh, God, we've got to do a television show.' Which we did despite my eye. In the video, if you look carefully, you can actually see a bandage with a dressing underneath. But the black patch looked good"

I was a dorky 9th grader riding the bus to school on a cold suburban Cleveland morning to a new school. I had no friends, no boyfriend, no idea on how to connect and the neighborhood, though upper-middle class, was tough. The bus driver was a long hair, driving and rocking out to this sound. You couldn't hear the bus exhaust or engine. My life, my sexuality, my body, they were on hold. That song planted a seed.
