He was great guitarist. When I was a senior in high school he came into the bank I worked in the afternoon. I just miss him. All the ladies had gotten his autograph Someone else who was a great musician was Glen Campbell. I saw him on a show once. He played the guitar, the banjo and the bagpipes. We are losing all the older stars in country music. Sad, but glad there are tapes to listen to.

This rocker grew up in the sixties. I was a big Hendrix and Beatles fan, but we all loved Roy Clark, because we saw him on Hee Haw, he was funny, and BOY, HE COULD PLAY!

I am from Tulsa Oklahoma and got to meet Roy in person only once in my lifetime. We all knew where his house was and respected that. He was such a sweet soul and very kind. He was one of the best musical talents of all time! Add the funny and that is even better!

Got to meet Roy myself and at a Bluegrass Festival no less. Saw him play fiddle and guitar in person and believe me EVERYONE stopped pickin' and watched and listened. Roy could indeed play anything with precision and still entertain while doing it. To me he was the best there's ever been.

Dang, I just remembered I used to play this when I was 13. Great tune! I used to LOVE watching Roy play guitar on PBS when I was a kid. He'd play until every acoustic string was broken.

I am in Africa. I have honestly never heard of this performer previously. Juts goes to show at age 67 life can still hold pleasant surprises. Amazing talent - up there with the best I reckon. Thank you very much for posting this. I love the song but this is the first time I heard this version.

Never been a country western music fan - nothing against it, just not my taste. But Roy Clarke was one of those rare musicians whose mastery transcended genre. And he transcended genres, as he proved many time by playing anything from classical violin to Spanish guitar. A great musician is a great musician.

Grew up on Hee-Haw as a kid in the 70s. So funny to me but I loved Buck then. But as I grew I realized Roy was the musical God. The guy is amazing on instruments. I wish I could learn guitar from him. 84 now. God bless you Roy! And a BIG thank you!

+F Hoffman...thank you for your post! Did you happen to see Glen Campbell performing with the beach boys on stage, maybe? I often wondered what songs/instrumentals Glen performed when he opened for the boys. He took Brian's place in the band from late 1964 to May 1965, off and on, because he also had session work at that same time period. Glen was busier than "a two-headed woodpecker" as he liked to say! :-)

I guess we're old. Love Glen Campbell. I didn't care for Roy Clark on Hee Haw. I know he was able to show his talent and his sense of humor, but part of me felt he was better than that--not a member of an ensemble cast, but a headliner in his own right.

I like a lot of different kinds of music. My favorite being Pink Floyd, but even this space cadet can appreciate the undeniable talent of Roy Clark. I grew up with country music and what 99% of country stars make now, is not country music. It is country rock.

Roy Clark was a magnificent guitarist. I remember watching Hee Haw when I was a kid and my dad would always say that Roy was as good as anyone on a guitar, period! Roy also had a gift for entertaining an audience, that's for sure! God Bless you, Roy!

I had the great privilege of working on a TV pilot for Roy in 1974, he was a brilliant musician and genuinely nice guy. Buck Trent and Diana Trask were also outstanding.

My first introduction to Roy Clark was on TV, on the occasion of his first appearance on the Johnny Carson show way back . . . it was a fantastic display of virtuosity. My 2nd was meeting Roy at the desk of a hotel in Nashville where we briefly exchanged hellos after my friend Jim Casey introduced us. There might an equal on the guitar but none better than Roy.

Roy loved to clown around a good bit but if you research his recording history you'll see that he had a great ear for very passionate songs that nobody else in his league seem to recognize. He was truly born with a love of music and not just the brite lights. He'll be missed for sure.

I met Roy Clark at a rod and gun club once many years ago when I was a teenager when Roy was living in Maryland. He actually took the time to talk to this kid like I mattered, I'll never forget that experience, I still have his autograph from that day. The guys at the club weren't all that surprised to see Roy as he was a regular there, I about jumped out of my skin when I saw him drive up in this pristine old Ford, I believe it was a Ford Model A if I remember correctly. Just a down to earth wonderful guy that I was proud to meet and had the opportunity to shake his hand.

The very 1st X heard Ghost Riders in the Sky the hairs on back my neck pickled and I felt a chill -only 14 ATT. A Sons of the Pioneers b4 '69 playing oldies for then on AM radio.

This wasn't quite as dramatic as Prince playing "Purple Rain" in a downpour at the Super Bowl, but back in the mid-70's my girlfriend and I and some friends went to the Clay County Fair (Spencer, Iowa) to hear Roy play. It was in the evening and storm clouds were moving in. Just as Roy started playing "Ghost Riders in the Sky", the lightning started crackling across the sky. Talk about a light show! Unbelievable experience (can't remember if we got soaked or not!).
