Roy Jones Junior defends the Light Heavyweight titles against Derrick Harmon at the Ice Palace, Tampa, Florida. 24 February 2001 #royjonesjr #DerrickHarmon #boxing #lightheavyweight Link to Part 2 • Roy Jones JR vs Derric...
Derrick reminds me of Tarver - body snatcher, tall southpaw. But the difference between the Roy here and the one who fought Tarver is night and day. He was constantly moving and twitching. He shone bright but faded early.
The 25 pound drop from heavyweight did discernible damage to his body. The exact thing I said after Roy took off his robe before the first Tarver fight was, "Roy ain't the same." Anyway, a good rule of thumb is-- Speedsters die at 35.
Father time beat Roy Jones Jr. After winning Heavyweight Title...it was over. Dropping 25lbs muscle just speeded up the process a year or two earlier. Prime Roy Best I've Ever Seen 💯
ZMM Until Tarver got to him I thought Roy was unbeatable, being so quick, smart,&competent in the ring. Roy got "old quick" between the Ruiz&Tarver fights & was beaten by guys who could hardly have touched him a few years earlier.
Roy was sweet in his prime. What I like about Roy is that he is a classy guy. Thanks Roy for being a champ in the ring as well as out of the ring. Wish you were born in the generation of Canelo and Mayweather. U would have shown the world who was the real worlds people champ. Thx Champ for carrying the torch of old school boxing legends
Anyone noticed that Winky Wright was on his phone the whole time sitting behind Traver was was so focus studying RJJ? I can’t recall Jones going to watch anyone he wanted to fight before
One of the greatest champions of our time. Not even a heavyweight but stepped up to that division to take on a former champion of that division.........and bet him........with ease. Would have loved a showdown with Evander Holyfield. RJJ would just have been too skilled and too fast for Tyson, but Holyfields courage and determination would have given RJJ a good fight. RJJ is one of those fighters that has to be set aside from all the other competion........like we do with Mayweather..........in a special league of his own
You are suggesting that RJJ beats Tyson because he was too quick for him , are you for real , Tyson had the power to end the guys Career , seriously , considering the very decent but lesser Class , Lou Delvalle could floor him , and the light hitting Glen Johnson , who wasn't known for Power , Ko,ed him , God only knows how he'd have fared V Tyson , especially if he was even 60% . In their Exhibition fight just recently , they fought 8 2 minute Rds , wearing 12 Ounce Gloves , may as well being wearing pillows on their fists , and Tyson still caused him serious problems especially with the body shots . Your not the only Jones fan who thinks he could have beaten Tyson , there's plenty of others and many even think he could have out-pointed Lennox Lewis , a guy who could come in comfortably at 250lbs , had one of the longest reaches in the game and arguably , the best jabs that done serious damage , never mind any of his other shots , he had enough power to Ko Jones with these alone . I would never slag off any Boxer brave enough to step in a Ring and I most certainly wouldn't call anyone a bum or anything like that but John Ruiz is not up there as a Great HW Champion , he was levels below Tyson and Lewis that's for sure , amongst many , many others .
Leonard seemed quicker at welter, Jones may have been faster at middle. Wonder how quick roy would have been if he was born smaller? Leonard vs Jones at light middle or catchweight? roy or ray vs GGG?
Mark Ant Golovkin can barely handle Jacobs speed and Canelos power had Golovkin honest Roy is light years faster than Jacobs and has more explosive power than Canelo. Mix that with foot speed, cat like reflexes, and the size Jones got. It’s not a contest.
He was the doorman / security at my dad's condo off Sheridan in Chicago he was a cool dude back then I was like 8 or 9 and I would always say you can't fight I'll beat you up and he would play around with me cool dude hope he's doing well these days
No version of Jones whooped Tarver ever , he got lucky in their first fight then Tarver whooped him , just as Liles and Mc Clellan , amongst others would have had Jones fought them as Professionals . Both Mc Clellan and Liles whooped him in the Amateurs .
@@remelbernardo1641 BHop was 4-5 years from his Prime in 93 , picked up his first MW Strap after mid 90s , became Undisputed MW Champion early 00s after a round robin box off Series , Tarver wanted Jones in 00 , after just 16 fights unbeaten , only turned Professional in 98 at 28 years old , he is the same age as Jones , check it out , he was the No 1 Challenger IBF , and was next in line , Jones and his team wrote letters to the IBF and had them force Tarver to fight Harding , acted like a child , it's there in black and white , Tarver had his number , it's plain and simple . When they fought over 3 fights , nothing to do with going up or down Weights here , only Tarver showed the ability to KO him , and could take his best shots , Jones never showed any evidence of Ko ing Tarver , worth thinking about , All the best 🥊 🥊
@@francishegarty8087 blahh blah blahh rjj vs hopkins 1 hop is already 27 si it's not his prime? Luk at reflexes of rjj after ruiz fight at rjj vs tarver1 rjj is to slow not punching too much he's waiting its not d same rjj in 90s his cat reflexes freakin of nature is not d same
@@remelbernardo1641 The guy who started this comments section said , this version of Jones would Whoop Tarver , they fought 3 times and Jones showed no evidence of this . The facts are , Tarver was No 1 Challenger and Mandatory next in line in 00 , Jones ensured this fight never happened then by acting like a child , facts . Have you watched their 3 encounters , can you honestly , hand on heart say , yes I think Jones had the ability to KO the Guy , I don't think so personally myself , no matter how many times they fought .
