his hand speed was UNREAL, I told my brother way back in 96,97 that the person that finally beat him they're gonna have to catch him with a single punch, what he had is what you call gifted, it goes way beyond talent...WOW!!....my favorite fighter EVER!!
Mark Ant well for one James Toney was a great defensive fighter and Reggie Johnson on the other hand was pretty decent fighter but not the caliber of a James Toney.
Traslen Patterson The straight right did the damage for Jones, when Toney fought Johnson his straight rights were badly timed, I don`t think he had developed into the boxer that was so great against McCallum yet.
He would certainly thrive in any error. Roy is a fantastic athlete and skill wise hard to match. I have no doubt in my mind Roy would match the best ever in history.
Thatincrediblejordan I didnt say nobody would give him a good fight but Roy would win because he was naturally bigger than Robinson and had more power and speed
What's even more impressive is that it was a 3-2; left hook (not jab) lead followed by a straight right hand. Not too many fighters even think to throw a combination like that!
@@GorenGuang I've been watching boxing since the late '70s, essentially the end of the Ali career forward. I've never seen a more physically gifted fighter than Roy Jones Jr. He could do things that most mortals can't even envision.
Charles Utley I disagree he is the same as naseem hamed looked great against crap fighters and struggled soon as they started with decent known guys. Haggler, Robinson, etc would of killed him
Chris Pope 😂 these plastic fight fans just don't know, he ducked Gerald mcllenan Julian Jackson like the plague, granted he was great to watch against brick layers and dustmen. Any real pressure fighter beats him granted if you stand Infront of him and let him dictate the distance he'd cut you to pieces but fighters like haggler GGG monzon Benn etc would of beat him and great ring technicians like Robinson and learnard would of known this, just like a injury plagued calzaghie did. People don't realise that Jones was only 2 years older
Jones must have bunked off a lot of School Days when he was a MW , SMW and LHW Champion , he never took Mc Clellan , Nunn , Jackson , Benn , Collins , Liles , Jirov , Rochegiani and Michalczewski to School , he was obviously sick on them Days , all these Guys were Fellow Strap Holders at these Weights when Jones was operating here . The Guys he took to School , in your words , were not as good as these Guys or were way past their prime like Mc Callum and Johnson .
18:46 Lampley asks if there’s ever been in the history of the sport a 175er with the handspeed of Jones and Jones answers , HELL NO, with a lighting left hook and right hand
I have never seen a combination that fast, that produces a knockdown, like the one in the closing seconds of the 3rd. All you have to do is listen to George. " Reggie, one of the best fighters at light heavyweight, doesn't know what to do ". "I've never seen anything like this before ". We haven't seen it since either, George. Today's guys, with all due respect, are not even, close !!!!!.
So that’s all it takes to be an all time great boxer? Great athleticism? Shit, let’s get the NBA players in the ring. They’ll be dominating in no time.
Willie D bringing out Reggie, both from my hood. 5th Ward Texas!!! Legendary fight! Reggie is the only fighter I've ever seen Roy kiss on the cheek after a fight. He loved, and respected him very much. #legends
Roy Jones has fought an awful lot of tomato cans for a guy everyone calls the GOAT. I can’t deny his talent and ability but name one memorable fight he fought against a hall of famer in their prime...
@@husqua5362 poor little snowflake. I've watched the sport since I was 4 and have seen over 1500 fights, including 35 Jones fights...but keep telling yourself he fought top competition. Facts we all know, he avoided a lot of people, but let's discuss your point. First you said that he fought 4 good fighters, which is about right. One of which beat his ass badly once and arguably won the first fight. You can act appalled by that claim but many so called experts called it that way. But then, after realizing your flawed argument by only being able to come up with 4 actual top tier fighters he beat, you then changed your claim to be they were ALL top fighters. Soooo, who doesn't know shit a out boxing again? I admitted he was talented, raw for sure. But he was the technically one of the WORST fighters ever, but his raw athleticism made up for it. When that went, he become a below average fighter...and one that fought, wait for it, a SHITLOAD of mediocre people while taking no chances.
@@traviswoodall6547 you know shit about boxing, go watch some figure skating. Roy beat a lot of great fighters. James Toney who was undefeated an regarded as the best fighter pound for pound in the world, Bernard hopkins, Eric Harding who kicked tarvers ass, Julio Gonzalas who beat Darious Michulski, Clinton Woods who went to hold the LH title later and beat Glen Johnson, John Ruiz who beat holyfield. Roy started at 154 and went all the up to heavyweight! The only fighter in history to do this! Thats equivalent to mayweather going to lightheavyeight. Roys prime lasted all the way to his mid thirties too. Go do some research numbskull!
Any fighter can watch this fight and see Reggie was open to Roy's right hand the whole fight . Roy chose to let the concession stand make money and let the commercials be played
Just before the end of round 1, the commentator said there was a straight right hand that landed for Johnson. That totally missed. What fight was he watching?
You ain't a boxing fan if you dont know who roy jones is, he didnt lose a round for 15 years and has a much better resume than mike tyson a prime roy wouldve beat him but I think he loses as his age has hit him harder
Roy jones had terrible technique I cant believe he was so good fighting so wild. How the hell did he not get caught before tarver?? I mean his defense? He jumps in the air and turns his head basically. His speed and power look out of this world though
He didn't get caught before Tarver , who actually exposed him , because he just didn't fight the very best fighters of his Era at certain weights , a prime example is Gerald Mc Clellan , who beat Jones in their only fight ever as Amateurs . The Gman was an Animal , an absolute beast of a MW who would have , given the chance , exposed him much earlier , and Jones would not have pranced around relying on speed against this fella , thats for sure .
120-104 Roy Jones Jr Jones Johnson 1 10 8 2 10 9 3 10 8 4 10 9 5 10 8 6 10 9 7 10 9 8 10 9 9 10 8 10 10 9 11 10 9 12 10 9 When you land 1-2 total punches - I’ll give that a 10-8 too not Just the knockdowns. Domination by the p4p goat
