High School. No leading with the helmet, (unless its big TE or QB in the open 😂). Told them 3 years ago to utilize their track type speed and gauge their timing for precise impact. If possible light'em up, you need to them be thinking about where you are at all times.
A lot of people will probably never understand how much of a game changer Williams was. He didn't just lay people out, he was out there causing fumbles, getting sacks, TFL, and intercepting passes. Quite a few of his highlights were in the clutch as well. I was certain at one point that he was going to the HOF. Too bad Woody retiring really exposed his coverage skills.
Roy's first 5 years were his prime years. He had 17 interceptions, three pick sixes, 9 forced fumbles, 7 fumble recoveries, 7 sacks, and over 341 tackles. Those are crazy numbers for a safety in just a 5 year span. To your point, the man wasn't just a hard hitter!
The NFL made two rule changes because of Roy. One, leading with helmet face first. Two, the horse collar. Not only was he a game changer but League rule changer.
@@jkdortch2308 you need to read the comment, he literally said "too bad woodly retiring really exposed his coverage skills" he literally said what you said.
Woodson and Williams as safeties. Wow and ouch. Wish Williams had played during the dynasty years. Imagine Deion, Pup, Woodson, and Williams in their prime playing in that secondary. Would make Legion of doom look pedestrian.
This is just outstanding work by you Sir.. I remember one absolutely devastating hit against the Seahawks on a kickoff return... He knocked the returner unconscious on the play... The entire Seahawks team was submissive after that hit. 🏈
Roy Williams one of the most underrated safeties from the late 00s era. 5x Pro Bowl starter from 03-07 and first team All-Pro 2003. Was a vicious hard hitting safety
The Cowboys won nothing with him. This is the kind of stuff 21st century Cowboys fans love, because they've never seen the Cowboys win anything. Us old farts don't give a shit about Roy Williams hits.
Roy Williams was the reason they outlawed the “horse collar” tackle, he was often caught out of position and had to grab strong receivers by the collar of their shoulder pads and drag them down. This caused several knee and ankle injuries and ended the season once for Terrell Owens when Owens played for the Eagles.
Roy was called the "Offense Wrecker" and Superman coming out of college. He has a play that made him famous at the time while he was at OU, if you never seen it look up OU vs Texas 2001.(You won't be disappointed.) He played his NFL career trying to live up to that play. On the Emmitt play Emmitt had talked a little smack to the press about the Cowboys calling them Poo Poo because Emmitt don't cuss. LOL Good memories LC. Thanks.
Redskins had their Sean Taylor R.I.P we had our Roy Williams. He was a special talent. *Prime* Roy 2002-2006 was the best safety in the league outside of Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu.
Can't wait for part 2! It's amazing how many Cowboys have rules named after them. Michael Irvin has 2 lol. Here's a partial list: Roy Williams (horse collar), Jason Witten (running without helmet), Emmitt Smith (Ripping own helmet off), Erik Williams (hands to the face), Michael Irvin (taunting and pushing off), Brice Butler (substitution warning), Dez Bryant (catch definition; actually PR move to cover up their own egregious failure since Bryant's catch was already legal under existing rules), Mel Renfro (player can catch ball tipped by own teammate), Deion Sanders (salary bonus rule), Marion Barber (stiff arm to face mask), Tony Romo (kicking balls monitored by officials instead of ball boys).
I'm a Texas Longhorns fan and i remember Roy being a terror against them when he was at Oklahoma! But when he was drafted by the Cowboys i was like all is forgiven, he's a Cowboy now!
I still watch games from the 90s on you tube with Madden and Sumerall and nothing comes close. Glory days and wild asf the punishment the qbs were taking I saw Steve Young get his whole helmet ripped off and no flag😂😂😂
He was a legend in college. I still can't believe we got him. Probably outside of dez Bryant, and probably Zeke, I've never seen a buzz like that before in Cowboys nation after a draft pick.
He was the first official game Jersey that I bought. His Double Star jersey was my first real jersey I bought with my Christmas bonus. He and Sean Taylor were my favorite Safeties to ever play during my 42 years. And I’m a Cowboys fan since 1988, but Sean earned my respect quickly. But Roy Williams changed the league into being soft. Players could not handle how he dismantled guys and so they took his play away from him and ended his career early. All because players were too chicken to play against him.
I have to admit. I don't much care for OU. It was a hard pill to swallow when Dallas got Roy Williams. It must have taken him every bit of 5 minutes to win me over. He is one of the greatest safeties to ever play the game. Maybe 3 others on his level ever. Now, on to you, my friend. Not only did you find perfect content for this video, your narrative could not have been better. You are truly talented! I'd subscribe to your channel if it were about mud drying. Another incredible job!
GREAT stuff as usual Logical! I was at that game with several buddies when Roy Williams laid the lumber to Emmitt Smith. You could hear the contact clearly and the entire crowd gasped at the same time. I turned to a friend and said Emmits done, guaranteed, and he was. Sad but true. If only Roy Williams could cover he would have been the best ever. Keep up the good work my friend, I appreciate you.
I remember when the cowboys had Williams and Hamlin at safety. I used to cause mad fumbles on madden with those boys. They had that hammer 🔨 icon for the big hits 💪
I love watching Roy Williams straight wrecking mugs out there. U love having a guy like that on the squad. I remember later in his career he actually lost weight an it look like he was laying the wood an hitting even harder
Thanks again. It was Williams who cemented the installing the "horse collar" ban. I only wish he had more cover skills. Perhaps then a Hall of Fame guy.
Unfortunately, Dallas couldn’t make him at one point a hybrid linebacker. The guy was so talented that he was one of the best safeties in the league, and that probably wasn't his pure position. Thanks for watching, bro!
Thank you so much for the love on this video. I truly appreciate it. All I ever wanted to do was play ball at the highest level & I was able to do it. And this video brings back so awesome memories. All I ever wanted to do was hit people and give Cowboy Nation a show. Thank you so Much… 💪🏾 We DemBoys!!!!!
Roy plays in the 90s he’s a hall of famer. Roy plays in today’s game he’s a hall of fame linebacker. He played in an era where defensive coaches didn’t know what to do with him once he got caught in coverage.
8th overall pick and he is a safety from the Sooners. My man decleated a lot of people back in the day before the helmet to helmet rules.I used to love watching him play.If you are a huge fan like me you will remember a night game against the Redskins and you should know the name Santana Moss.Loved Roy but he had a weakness and it happened in that game
I was a life-long Chiefs fan, and never saw them win a Superbowl. I'd rather just watch highlights of the games I didn't get to see. @@thelogicalcowboy
9:05 These types of plays don't make many highlight reels, but Roy Williams caused them regularly. The effect of a true enforcer in the middle of the field.
In his first 3 seasons, along with ray Lewis, Roy was the most feared defender in the nfl. They even compared him to Ronnie Lott. You could hear his ferocious hits every time
Great Video again! Roy was a great hitter and run stopper. He wasn't the best cover DB and Woodson retiring didn't help the secondary considering he lost a "should be HOF'er" partner, but in his time Roy was brutal...
I just want to say part of the reason the cowboys were able to use Williams the way there were , in the box, on the LOS , roaming free in 2ndary is cuz of one of the most under rated defensive players ever. #28 DARREN WOODSON , its shame is his getting snubb on the Hall Of Fame.
He was perfectly built physically and mentally to be a flying hammer and his technique was perfected. There were a lot of great hitters but I don't recall once seeing Roy slow to get up from any of his hits. That man was trying to run through your whole body
Pt.2/ He reminded me So much of that hard hitting Safety named Scott Case from back in the day's When he had Played for those dirty birds Atlanta Falcons !
I loved watching him play he was an absolute beast on the field. He would get just a few feet to you. And then completely just unload he didn't just hit you he unloaded. Wasn't the greatest cover defender but would unleash a hit. That would make an entire sideline go ohhhweee
As a Cowboy fan, Roy was a great hitter, but as an overall safety, he was one trick pony. He was TERRIBLE in coverage. Without Darren Woodson next to him he got exposed in coverage constantly.
Roy Williams used the horse collar tackle often. Terrell Owen's was not the only receiver he injured using it. Tyrone Calico had both knees injured as well from Williams using the horse collar tackle. I remember when a titans running back named Chrus Brown broke loose and Williams cane flying in like a missle only to get stiff armed like a rag doll as Brown went in to score . After that not many even worried about him. He pretty much faded away.
They hated Roy realtalk, he played real old-school man up football not this gay rules now, just look at our pro bowl flag football ,the traditional game is gone, look its like the marines u sign up for it,like boxing, whats next they say u hit to hard in boxing,I love my dallas cowboys but i hate the gay rules ❤ realtalk 💯
They make rules up just for Dallas Cowboys players. LOL. It was good when everyone else was doing it until a Dallas Cowboys player did it, and then they want to change the rules. LOL. Thanks for watching, bro.
Roy Williams literally Was a very aggressive head hunting type of football Player that Would try his best to knock Your head right'off of Your dog'gone Shoulder-blade's ! And he brought his hard hitting hammer every Single down that he Was back there in that Secondary. 💪 🏈
Dude, they have had awful defenses. I'm a lifelong Cowboy and they've had a few dreadful seasons. Just 3 to 5 years ago they were among the worst in the league lol
I need to find the highlight of Roy making an interception and he headbutted the fck out of an incoming tackler!!!😂 yoooo that was when I realized this dude mean business!!!
