Few things 1)your friends are either not Moroccans or they lied to you. In fact as Moroccans we rather say that we are Africans than Arabs (which we are not) I like to monkey around a lot so I poke fun at my Afro American friends by telling them that I have more “African blood” than them (a way to say I am more African than them 😂) 2) Moroccan planes were always well kept and we do have some of the best pilots in the world. 3) service in the other hand was always horrible but has extremely improved for the last few years and I am glad you were happy with it. I hope you have enjoyed your stay in Morocco and please come back soon and more often 🙏
*You got it wrong my friend! We are veeeery proud to be Africans is just we are North africans we call ourselves north Africans and the rest of Africa Moroccans call them Africans. Yes in the west when they hear you live in africa they think of the steriotypes of africa which we don't like especially us Morocco as Developping country but we are north africans and proud to be africans.*
I spent two very happy years living in Morocco & have since then visited it a few times, I like the place and the people - and of course the food and the very varied scenery. I ‘ve flown on RAM a few times and think it overall pretty decent, I also lived for a number of years in France & have visited many times - RAM holds up pretty well against Air France, for example, although the aircraft do tend to be a bit older, but as you found decently cared for and the friendly service is a definite plus. Looking forward to your 787 review now. PS/ I’ve always thought of Moroccans as North Africans or Maghrebins, not really as Africans as such, and I don’t really think most Moroccans think of themselves that way either, although of course the country is a member of the OAU/AU.
Another very interesting review and I think Royal Air Maroc has worked very hard to be accepted into the OneWorld Alliance which has very high standards to begin with. Well done!
As a half moroccan that have been travelling to Morocco a couple of times with Royal Air Maroc, the airline have developed to the good the last 10 years. Very happy to see!
Bro as a Moroccan we are proud African hhhh and here in Morocco i never heard someone saying that he is not african hhh, but amazing video brother, love it 👌🏼❤️❤️
@@jarumboy1 there's something wrong about your comment and that is you can be african and amazigh or arab in the same time because amazigh/arab is an ethnic thing while african is where you're from geographically.. like a european who can be german spanish italian... so there's nothing such african or arab/amazigh.
I fly frequently with RAM across the Atlantic ocean , I always found it highly professional and with good prices ...RAM is on a European standard as is the country of Morocco , I would not compare it to the rest of the African companies ....
Not very professional in my opinion there’s little to no service the company is average even Ryanair does better overall and I see that you clearly never been on a Ethiopian airlines flight cuz it is clearly the best company in Africa and even the new air Senegal does better.
I only flew 4 flights with RAM. The best meal service I ever experienced: good, healthy food, and the only time I walked away feeling full (the feeling of having eaten an actual meal) in Economy class (for less than 3-hour flights).
Moroccans are hard workers and they love there country and they feel arabs-berebers-africans and proud of it..they are so different than algerien and tunisiens because they are kingdom and they have a great history around 12
As a Moroccan, i'm totally proud of being an african. And for your info, we speak arabic in Morocco but we're mostly Amazigh (berber). Concerning RAM, the criteria are strict to join an alliance like oneworld, and the moroccan company is ranked 89th on skytrax, which is not bad at all. Cheers
@@baathi7358 I'm an Idrissi, and I know that Moulay Idris had an Amazigh wife for your info... I'm just an Arab-Amazigh who grew up with jews as neighbors near a Cathedral in Rabat, and just for that, i'm extremely proud of being moroccan)

I am Moroccan and I am Berber. Next time Mr Red Moor, if you choose to call yourself African that’s your business. Don’t generalize! Yes we live in the African continent but genetically talking we are not Africans.People in South Africa came from Europe, are they Africans too??
Hello thank you for this great Video much appreciated . I'm Moroccan and very proud to be African so no that's not true we Moroccan people know that Morocco is in Africa and we Correct people when they tell us from middle east we called them racist we're not like Egypt or Algeria or tunesia. . Moroccan history is very old has different culture like Amazigh , Arabs , Sahraois and Africans at the ends we all Africans and proud to be Africans !
@Mehdi Mahjoub yes especially Ageria was Created by the French very racist they give weapons to terrorist against Morocco but they have no idea who they're messing with !
Just to correct you Maria!! First your name is Maria not Fatima. Second Tunisia is a country who gave its name to the whole continent because the old name of Tunisia is Afriqiah. Third I think you are so ignorant and your heart full of hate. You can’t talk about history among Tunisia, Egypt and Algeria because Morocco has no history compare to the pharaohs, Carthage and Hannibal in Tunisia, prince Abdelkader and Tarak Ibn Zied in Algeria.
@@SonOfHannibal Maria is also a name given by moroccan families (it's even quite "old" lol), it's a reference to Maria, one of the prophet's wives. Tarek Ibn Ziyad is now Algerian? HAHAHHAHHAHAH , OK... I see now whom I was talking to. LOL

Hello, this video is beautiful, but sir, the map of Morocco that you saw in this video has cut off the Sahara from Morocco, you understand what I mean, because the Sahara is Moroccan.... and if you mention Morocco in any of your videos, because I am from the Moroccan city of El-Ayoun, and thank you.

The prize for the most unexpected words in an airline review goes to Josh Cahill for......"Protecting your face, or your Willie" 🤣🤣🤣 Great review, Josh, it will be interesting to see the next flight
I love Morocco...This country is amazing...very multicultural and diverse. I hope tracfllibg there again. The Air Maroc is the best Airlines in Africa in.my opinion
@Mashi so We are all of this and none of this. all of these ingredients were the basic components cooked in the Moroccan crucible. We are way older culture than south African white Boers, yet they are proud to identify with Afrikaans then why shouldn't we. I have an African test for my own self. If I hear drum beats or Djembe' ad I start moving my hips than i know I am a real African .
RAM reflects the moroccan generosity, you get automatically 23 KGs (Luggage allowance) + a real meal & a satisfying leg room. That is something you won´t generally find when you fly with the most of european Airlines for such a short distance (including no Low Cost carriers).
@@mworld3653 not spreading any lies but go and Book with Tap Portugal or Air France , KLM or even Lufthansa e.g. And you will see that you have to pay always extra for anything you wanna get without talking about Low Cost carriers like EasyJet, Ryanair and the List is very Long. RAM offers you in the most Basic Price you pay a 23 KG Luggage Allowance + a 10 KGs handbag
@@gamesbaden1729I’ve flown Air France from Paris to Casablanca once which is a shorter flight than this one and still the meal was full and so much better than this one and I had 23 kgs for my baggage allowance. All those airlines you mentioned offer 23 kgs.
Thanks for the video, love the attention to details....As a Moroccan living in the States for 30 years, I prefer to be called African since my recent DNA test shows clearly 90% of Moroccans are 70% African origins, 10% middle eastern and the rest European. Not surprising after all.
Hi, Josh I'm originally from Morocco but I live in New York, I wanna give an answer , we a proud to be a part of Africa and Berber include Arab too ,Geographically, we located in North Africa but the best description I would Call it , We are a Center of all civilizations. . Thx for your beautiful channel.
Interesting trip report. I flew Royal Air Maroc 747-400 out of YUL and their 737-800 on to Cairo, and my experience start to finish was exceptional. I was hoping your 787 flight would be to Montreal. Maybe next time.
Hi Josh: thanks for this review. I’ve never flown Royal Air Maroc because of the many myths I heard about this airline. But now because of your review, I will put this airline on my to-fly list.
They are clean and reasonable airlines, but we, as Moroccans, continue to criticize them in order to be at the top, but we are proud of them. Greetings to all employees
Hello Josh, I am moroccan and I know this airline very well. RAM is now performing very well and they found the right operating mode. As you ve shown they are efficinent that they are able to provide a good classic airline service for competitive prices at the average of low cost airlines. RAM has a special market in the region focusing on connecting west africa to europe and north and south america. But what I miss is a future strategy. Do you know about orders placed by RAM? PS: I think RAM survived Corona without any support by the State.
thank you for feedback. they charter often additional airplanes in the summer when lot of moroccans flight home. last year for example also a 777-200 for flights to montreal
Loved the review Josh!! I subscribed to your channel and have never had cause to regret it 😊 I feel you about Madrid airport, super modern and clean but a bit of maze at times! Loved this journey and Morocco is a top destination of mine to visit so this review was super helpful in making to decide to fly RAM if needs be. Thanks Josh and hope you have a wonderful time in Casablanca 🙌✌️
Josh you’re flying with some interesting airlines , I always look forward to your flight reviews they’re so informative! I’m so glad I found your channel. Ps I too always sit in the rear of the cabin on flights 👍
As a North african I never heard anyone say they don't want to be called "African", Usually you'll hear people saying they don't want to be called "Arabs" (because ethnically we are not Arabs, we are Amazigh/Berbers but influenced by Islamic culture and arabic language) but everyone in North africa knows they are African, usually in normal dialect language the word "African" is used in most cases to refer to "subsaharan" African (in dialect we just reduce "subsaharan African" to "african"), And refer to ourselves as "North" African or "Maghrebi" (as in part of the Maghreb), but we all know we are African are never have I seen or heard anyone say they don't want to be called as such. We do not like though when people say we are "part of the middle east"
@@adamwz248 What fitna ? Speaking Arabic does not mean becoming Arab, Arabs live in the middle east, If you want to identity as Arab then go on but how does that make it fitna ?? The people that have always lived in North Africa are Amazigh not arabs, arabs only came to share their religion and most of them left when the Amazigh controlled back the area, only a couple of Arab tribes settled in North Africa and none of them make up any significant percecntage of the population, unless there was an ethnic clainsing of entire region then you can't change the entire genome of the population, if you say North African are Arabs then you admit Arabs did what Europeans did to the native americans (killed everyone and replaced them) but that's not the case We north africans are before everything North Africans ethnics then citizens of our distinctive countries after that you can choose whatever identity you want
@@jonasw3945 Arabs came to North Africa before Islam. Berbers themselves are of many ethnicities and not only one as you may think. Also speaking Berber doesn’t make you Berber. Berbers didn’t grow from that soil. They are also migrants who came from different parts of the earth and settled in that area. I am Arab “ 3roubi” of Sahrwi origin but even if I were not Arab I would say I am for the sake of the Prophet peace be upon him.
@@adamwz248 Berbers are the indeginous people of North Africa, nobody came from nothing and at least we know berbers didn't come from the middle east. Arabs also didn't come from the soil neither did the Europeans, neither did the Chinese, so should we all call them Arabs ? What kind of logic is that ? What we know is that humanity came from Africa and we are Africans, the only indegenous people that ever lived in the Maghreb region are the berbers and so that's what we are, speaking berber doesn't make you berber, it's your ethnicity not your culture. Arabs didn't come to North Africa before Islam, you are very wrong, there is no recorded historical evidence of a mass immigration from the Arabs before that, Arabs came to spread islam and they did after killing a lot of berber who resisted the invasion, Arabs ruled of a some years and then got overthrown and left, some tribes like banu Hilal and others did immigrate to North Africa later on but that's it, a couple tribes can't possibly change the entire existing population. Or else we would all be calling France part of the Maghreb since the amount of people from the maghreb region that immigrated to France just during last century far faar exceeds the people that came from the middle east to North Africa since forever. How are you so suure you are Arab ? And what does the Prophet has anything to do with it ? If you are Sahraoui then you are from the sahraoui population that inhabited the African Sahara, it has literally nothing to do with the middle eastern arab region.
You can choose to call yourself “African”.That’s your opinion but it’s not a fact. North Africa is a Berber/Amazigh land and has nothing to do with the Arabs neither the Africans. Now, If you want to challenge a fact, go challenge the DNA tests of North Africans and start by yourself first.
Your comparison is a bit weird, don’t forget you’re comparing a country wich had a revolution and suffered with corruption till the president took over power in july, with a country that didn’t have a revolution. Tunisair was much better than Royal Air Maroc 10 years ago and a few days ago they purchased 5 new modern airplanes and i’m sure that Tunisia will get back to what it was, from an Italian. 🇮🇹🇹🇳
Hi, Amazing work Josh! 👍🏻 I'm Moroccan and I'm proud to be African. You asked us if we take offense to being called Africans? Not really, well It depends because there are two main ethnic groups. In Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, One group is Arab ethnic with origin from the Arabian peninsula and Iraq from the middle east from centuries ago. While the other ethnic group is the (Amazigh) ethnic group, you know them as (the Berbers) they are the true native Africans. Native to North African Mediterranean basin Like me. (berbers are Mediterranean African Caucasoid ). To be precise. The Amazigh Berbers don't take offense if you called them Africans, because they are native Africans, But they would correct you by saying we are North Africans, not Africans because they look night and day different from all other Africans in the rest of the African continent. However, they would take more offense if you called them Arabs instead of Africans or North Africans. While the Arab ethics in the region however would often take offense if you call them Africans instead of Arabs because they naturally feel more connected to the middle east rather than the African continent because they originated from ME 500 to 1000 years ago that's why. I'm an Amazigh Berber African female native to North Africa and I feel connected more to Africa by far, rather than the middle east, so I wouldn't mind at all that people call me African, and it also puts a smile on me even further if they call me for what I am and it is (north African) 👈This is me in my profile picture
We are North Africans ethnically originally were amazigh, Tuareg, pharaohs and carthagians but with the Arabic influence , north Mediterranean mix we are a blend of cultures . Fun fact we call Arabs the people of Arabian peninsula and we call Africans are our friends south of the Sahara. So geographically we are in Africa . Culturally we are not the typical Africans . Also ethnically we are not Arabs but culturally are due to the language and close ties with the Arab peninsula . 🇪🇬🇹🇳🇲🇦🇱🇾🇲🇷🇸🇩🇩🇿
Thanks for this video. I am Moroccan but I never felled I am an African and I never thought about it and I am happy that I am North Moroccan African. All what annoying is when some of other countries have no respect for African and looking at them racially and that's why some people whom from north Africa they don't want to tell where they from?.. Vive Africa❤❤❤
Some of us are arabs living in africa, i'm one of them and i'm proud of being african, there's also amazigh the people who used to live in north africa before we came
i am moroccan. I would choose to be called African than middle eastern any time of the day. I am proud to be African and i actually see people from other african countries as i see a Moroccan person
I have taken RAM from JFK to Casablanca quite a few times as a non rev passenger (I am an American Airlines employee) and i have had all very positive experiences on RAM! The staff has been amazing and seemed genuinely happy to have me on board. While they don’t offer upgrades to non rev’s, one FA actually brought me dinner from first class! Love RAM (and Morocco!!!!!)
Whether anyone likes it or not, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco are all in Africa.. That's just geography which no one can change.. Ethnically, the people of those countries are Arabs.. The north African region is part of the Middle East which extends from Mauritania in north west Africa to Turkey in Asia.. The people of those nations prefer not to be called 'Africans' because they see it as a different culture, but geographically speaking, those countries are indeed African.
Moroccans are not Arab. They are Amazigh genetically. Speaking a language doesn't change your ethnic group. A Moroccan speaking french doesn't make him a Frenchman, and the same goes for Arabic. Morocco (as well as Algeria and Tunisia) is home to the Amazigh people (whether they speak the language or not).
First of all, welcome to Morocco, I consider myself as an African and i m proud of it. The official language in Morocco is Arabic and Amazigh, even nobody speaks in their daily life Arabic. We speak Darizja ( a mix of Arabic, Tamazight, French and in the northen part also Spanish ). 95% of the Moroccans are not Arabs, We are Berbers Imazighen, or Arabized Imazighen.
Would love to see a saudia economy class video sometime I flew with them in 2019 from Jeddah to Cairo (cairo airport was bad but the flight was really good amazing cabin crew and a full meal service on a 1 hour flight which was insane)
Looks good. I'll remember this review if I ever make it to the Mediterranean. By the way, the European use of the term "Africa" began with the Romans and referred to Carthage, now Tunisia. So, the Maghreb in general. The term was later applied to the whole continent. As for whether Mediterranean Africans are African, I've had Libyan friends who were European in appearance and one who looked pure sub Saharan African. Many Arab looking Egyptians have tightly curled African style hair.
Hi Josh, thanks for the great review, as always. Im so happy to see that u sit in the back! When I was a frequent flyer, I always sat in the last rows, which my wife never understood.. Regarding duty free, I find it often practical for last second gift, and on many airlines the choice is nice. One of my favourite is always model planes. Looking forward to your 787 review!
We Moroccans we strongly believe we are African and proud of it. The early human has been discovered in morocco and from there has been spread to all Africa Europe and Asia so this says it all. In casablanca a lots aircraft from all over get refurbished in that airport that why RAM has got a good standard for its aircrafts.
My husband is Moroccan and he mostly calls himself a Moroccan and Arab, we live in the states but I have flew this airline 5 times. A long flight issues a dinner and breakfast which you definitely can’t compare to Moroccan food. I also find they aren’t very organized with seating and we had one issue returning to the states years ago (pre-Covid) the flight was full so we had to wait another day. Our luggage was already checked in and when we arrived they had our bags all open and had to ask for them because they obviously arrived a say before. Its the only direct flight from JFK so it’s the only way we travel if it can be avoided. The staff is really nice and the planes were always clean though. So basically it depends on your needs and desires if you want a direct flight. Thanks for the video, the next trip we will do a week vacation from Casablanca to Spain!
Regarding the duty-free in the aircraft (video 8:15) I believe that the real goal behind it is not only financial profit for airlines, but it's there to fill the spare time of passengers and crew members so that they will not feel bored, especially in planes that do not have entertainment (IFE).
@josh Cahill in fact we don't consider ourselves Africans nor middle eastern, we are Marghrebians. and it's different from both, and FYI Africa was named after Tunisia's original name Afrikiya.
Hi, thank you for nice video on RAM. I have two remarks though. First, please next time when you put morocan map, please put one that includes our Sahara. Secondly to answer your question on Moroccans origin, there are not Arabs mostly. They are Amazigh. Or Berbers if you wish. North Africans are the first inhabitants are Amazigh. Read on this section to know more. Thanks again Cahill
I feel African and not Middle East. History is an evidence that Arabs were no more than 10% of the population of North Africa when they came in the 7th century. The population of Morocco is mostly native Amazigh, Africans from south Morocco (Mali, Senegal,...) and from south spain after the invasion of Andalusia. Concerning the pilots, they are among the most highly skilled as Ethiopian pilots in Africa.
Josh, that was not music the crew was playing when you boarded. That is a famous Quran reciter. It was a bit hard to recognize, but if someone recognized it as something else, please do let me know and I will fix my error/remove the comment.
Definitely not Arabs, our culture and values were marginalized in favor of the government enforced language and traditions. We are the IMAZIGHEN PEOPLE of North Africa
We Morocco are not just African but Berber Arabic and for north of Morocco is mixed between Berber and Andalusian (Spanish Muslim ) which been living in north of Morocco since 15th century welcome to my Andalusian city Tetouan
I always like to buy the airplane model from the plane. i know i can order it online for cheaper but its the experiance of flying on the plane, getting handed a model of the plane while your on the plane that makes the cost worth it for me. on Air Maroc specifically I love the mint tea they sell onboard and end up buying a bottle on the return flight. those they don't sell at the store or online and i love the flavor of the tea
I don't know who you're friends with here in Morocco, but Moroccan are proudly Africans, I personally never came across someone who's not thinking about himself as non African.
