I hope these types of movies back, without violence, without graphical abusing, without sex, just a beautiful story, now hollywood movies are discusting, even comedy ones
It's interesting how the upper class ladies wear luxurious fur stoles, in what appears to be a tropical climate, just to go downtown. Joan looks amazing in the scene where she's dressed like a stainless steel sword: Grey sheath dress with chinchilla-fur trimmed short sleeves, chinchilla stole, a see-through plastic handbag with silvery trim...and that hair! It looks like they dyed her hair the same shade of grey to match the furs. These old films are a time capsule. Thank you.
Diane Baker played a superb daughter to JC... TWICE!!! Joan mustve liked her and Diane mustve been brilliant at letting Joan be the Star... Bravo to her. Great film! ❤
"Now that was a rare gem of a movie. I wasn't aware it existed. Big Joan Crawford fan here! ❤"I'll never believe again that an hour and eight minutes isn't long enough to make a great movie." Whoever discovered Joan Crawford, THANK YOU, THANK YOU & THANK YOU FOREVER & EVER!!! WE LOVE JOAN CRAWFORD FOREVER!!! WE ARE SPELLED BOUND ALWAYS BY HER WORK & MOVIES!!!😀😀😀
Joan Crawford had perfect posture. She stood and seated herself without using her hands, just as my Mother (aged 72) still does. They must not be teaching that in finishing schools these days.
Never knew this movie existed. What a gem! Joan was superb, I could tell exactly what her character was thinking by her body language and facial expression. Clothes, hair, jewelry, exquisite! Thank you for this upload.
The scene where she explains to the young man and asks him to be with his daughter. And after he says no, you see her walking up the stairs, and the way she holds her body, you know exactly how the character feels. That is serious talent.
It’s really nice to see so many people today who recognize the amazing actress that she was. We all have two sides to us but when one side is embellished then it’s blown out of proportion and it’s not fair or even real but it hurts deeply. I’m sure the spirit of Joan is feeling a sense of respect for so many appreciating her work. If you get a chance to see her in an interview you will fall in love with her charming and down to earth personality.
I have seen almost a 360 degree turnaround regarding Joan. A bad punchline in 1980s after "Mommie Dearest," she now seems widely respected as a woman and actress. In her interviews, she was humble and chatty, totally opposite of the bombastic Bette Davis
No actress can show so much pride, elegance and selfconfidence on the screen like Joan Crawford did, she truly was a most beautiful lady, one of a kind
Great movie. Crawford was one of the greatest actress ever. Diane Baker was excellent, saw her in Strait Jacket with Joan Crawford . Baker had a good teacher to show how it was done , and Crawford did an excellent job of it.👍👍👍❤
I've been watching older movies since i was a young girl, the beautiful cloths, the beautiful hair styles, beautiful everything. The leading lady Joan Crawford was always at her BEST. Joan Crawford was an absolute treasure. Adore her acting, adore her perfances. ❤
The young boy with the sailboat is Keith Green. He was one of the most gifted and talented writers of Christian music. He passed away in 1982 at the age of 28 from a plane crash, along with two of his kids.
I love Crawford movies , in this little known gem her beautiful coloring really stands out. Those huge gorgeous sapphire blue eyes! The jewels and classy wardrobe perfectly showcased her mature beauty. I wish she had done the kind of big soap operas like Lana Turner did in the late 50s-60s...those wonderful Sirk films. btw- Charles Bickford has been around since the early talkies. Greta Garbos 'talking' debut, 1930s, 'Anna Christie' had Bickford as her leading man. He was very effective as the gruff Dad in 1962s 'Days of Wine & Roses'.
I love almost anything with Joan Crawford in it, she was a great actress and this movie is wonderful! I have to say, Paul Burke was quite handsome in his time! ❤
Shucks, what a absolutely FANTASTIC FILM! This has got to be one of Joan Crawfords finest performances with so many levels of depth in her characterization. Every actor in this film is Stellar! Thanks for this pure Gem of filmmaking. Everytime I see such a wonderful film I always see God smiling, impressed with his children's skills that tell of the human condition and life experiences. From the writers to production assistants to actors to producers to sound to lights and everyone on and off set.
Joan Crawford was one of the greatest movie stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood, well into the years that followed for many decades after the Studio System ended. A truly amazing career.
Great little gem! The camera & make-up man really liked Joan in this early 60's film. She looks quite beautiful and elegant. The cars are spectacular as well as her wardrobe. Cheers!!!
I'm so glad someone posted this video. Maybe I'm too much of a JC fan, but there are times in this film that I feel she does some of her best acting. And she looks great for almost 60!
Joan has that type of glamour, for want of a better word, a style was was her own and always looking with those eyes. You don't really know if she wants to kiss you or eat you. Totally has full control of every scene she ever played, What a lady!
I thought this movie was really good -- where has it been all my life? Interesting story, well acted and that salt and pepper hair looked GREAT on Joan, and the styles, too.
Joan went to her natural salt & pepper after Al Steele passed away. She kept the look for a couple of years before going back to her signature red hair.
Always loved watching movies with Bickford & Carlson. Excellent actors...highly under-rated. This was when actual plots, scripts and trained actors existed. There are a few today, but not many! Watch Crawford in "Mildred Pierce"....an excellent example of Crawford's ability!
Well done film. Joan never lost her touch. In fact it seems to have become more nuanced as she continued throughout her career. It's always good to see Paul Burke and especially Charles Bickford with his great voice and narration. Very much enjoyed the c. 1963 automobiles.
If you ever wondered how JC might have looked, her figure, an upscale wardrobe, mature, refined, and perfectly manicured and stunningly coiffed and in her uncompleted role in “Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte”, this movie gives us a wonderful glimpse. She would have been stellar in that role as it would have been in 1964- I believe-one year after this role. She would have looked like this, but as the HHSC role progressed, she would get into that maniacal character and be murdered in the end, crushed to death with her lover by Bette Davis. What a travesty she didn’t complete it. She may have at least been nominated for an Oscar-maybe even won it bc BD performance was pretty harsh and one dimensional throughout. JC role was more of an acting “tour de force” and might have caught the attention of the academy-especially if she also brought to the character this stunning look she had in this film.
Fantastic. Joan Crawford is so elegant... beautiful...the fashions... everyone perfectly shaped. No obesity.... how the world has changed and not for the better....
What an absolutely AWSOME performance from the Great Joan Crawford ! Ms Crawford began her career in silent movies and it was there she developed the incrediable technique of using her face and eyes to convery a wide range of emotions without the use of words. She was the consumate "pro" , and it's good to see her in this 1963 TV movie still in good form.
From my thinking, if this pilot was ever picked up to series, Joan wouldn’t have been in the series. She would just have been the guest star for the pilot, but the series would have followed Paul Burke and the law firm. I don’t see how Joan’s storyline could have continued, it seemed more the case of the week, which would be wrapped up in an hour and then onto the next the following episode. To me this is Joan’s last classic “Joan role.” No slumming it here. She is dressed to the nines, with furs and jewels and looks STUNNING throughout. Her hair looks fantastic. None of that strawberry blonde stuff and all those horrible tight up dos with face lifting braids like she had in Berserk. Joan’s not in a horror role, and she shows she still has it. Full of confidence and she commands the screen! Joan deserved more A list prestige roles later in her career.
Your thinking is correct. The series "Royal Bay" was never intended as a series for Joan, but rather a series about the four sons of Hugh Stafford (Charles Bickford's character) - with each week alternating between various story lines (à la "Route 66"). Joan was one of the producers of this pilot, and I think she saw this as an opportunity to ensure a regular income via television - but from behind the camera. Also, Joan had planned to make appearances throughout the series as a guest star, however, most likely not portraying the same character throughout.
I saw the names of the actors/actresses and knew.... this was going to be a good movie. They(actors/actresses) back then knew how to choose roles. Something that a lot of them TODAY hasn't learned yet. Thanks for sharing 😊
No Two Ways about it, Joan Crawford was an Absolute 💯 Percent Goddess in EVERY.SINGLE.WAY, In My Opinion, the Single Best Thing about the Craft to which She Dedicated Her Life, from My Earliest Memory, thru My Childhood, as a Young Man and Now a Middle Aged Man, She has Filled My Life with Immeasurable Joy 😍❤️💎💄🪞🎭🎬📽️🏆👑
Very good movie, from beginning to end. Top-notch acting, directing, writing...the whole nine yards. Diane Baker was strikingly beautiful; Ms. Crawford, elegant & poised, as always; and Paul Burk, so very handsome. On another note, there's just something about Joan Crawford and her physique, the way she walks, her posture, the way she carries herself, and even her style of dress that reminds me of the lovely Whitney Houston. Both so elegant & poised, legends in their own right. Thanks so much for this upload. Much appreciated!
If not the first great Hollywood icon from the Golden Age of Hollywood, who continued on for many decades after all the Studios were closed down. Few can compare to Joan Crawford and regardless of what is written that is a fact! Charles Bickford was also great in this series. He was in love with Della, and not the first secret in "Royal Bay".
I only ever saw this movie on TV in 1974 when my brother and I got up really early for a long driving trip later that day! Elements of it have stayed in my memory ever since ! Haha!
Never heard of this before. A good movie. Shows Joan Crawford how she liked and demanded to be seen. This was filmed almost immediately after the movie straight jacket. Again with Diane baker Joan must have liked her
JOAN CRAWFORD became more beautiful as she got older.I think she also achieved a pinnacle of Stellar performances, THIS MOVIE BEING ONE ! She showed a range of different emotions ,with just her eyes alone ! 🎉
There is no one like Joan Crawford. Beautifully dressed, full glamour, and acting that is Oscar-worthy. She deserved way better. Hollywood didn’t realize what they had!!!
I can picture Bette Davis watching this at home cursing like a trouper and throwing dishes at the wall mad at how beautiful Joan still was in her later years
She really is incredible. Thank you for the upload. I haven't watched Joan in anything for a long time and this is just what I needed. She was just superb!
A fine bit of melodrama. Worth it for Crawford's double-slap of the daughter! Had to watch that moment 4 times I enjoyed it that much! And boy does Crawford look fantastic in this! Thank you for uploading this small gem
