I first saw this movie as a teenager and watched it primarly for the horror aspect. Years later, I watched it again as an adult and was absolutely stunned by the quality of Crawford’s performance. I honestly believe that had she given the same caliber performance in a more “respectable” film, she’d have earned an Oscar nomination.

Bette Davis, Elizabeth Taylor and Katherine Hepburn are my favorites. After seeing Mommie Dearest movie about the irratic behavior of Joan Crawford as a mother and a bisexual woman. I think she was a narcissist who hated men. See, how she took an ax to the men in the movie? Yeah. I think she should have been in a strait jacket for real. She played this movie with full familiar emotions-she embodied the role.

Oh, and the shades and immaculate grooming, and last but never the least……JEWELRY!!! Joan Crawford had the most exquisite jewelry and gems I’ve ever seen! What a legend…… back off Marilyn Monroe!!! This movie was filmed in Riverside, California. The old Tiny Naylor Mansion is still there (Now used a County of Riverside County Parks and Recreation Building) as is the old Flabob Airport however most of the chicken farms and horse racing tracks are now long gone and sadly have been replaced with housing developments. Well cast. You need someone not only beautiful, and Diane Baker is beautiful, but talented, assured, self possessed, with real charisma and intelligence to play Joan Crawford's character's daughter. If you put just an ordinary actress opposite Crawford she would simply disappear. If you put someone trying to be like Crawford it would be rediculous. You need a strong personality with her her own identity. Baker shines here, as always. Crawford is at her best, truly phenomenal. Baker is up to keeping pace.

I'd say AMERICAN VINTAGE MOVIES produced fine good MOVIESTARS. For the female lot the LIST includes: VIVIEN LEIGH, KATHERINE HEPBURN, SUSAN HAYWARD, INGRID BERGMAN, JENNIFER JONES, SHIRLEY MACLAINE, LANA TURNER, and many others. It was always these vintage actors and actresses who gave so much INSPIRATION for the latter ones in the AGE OF COMPUTERS. That's the way too in MUSIC, say as in POPULAR (POP) MUSIC, did ELVIS PRESLEY influenced so much to both CONTEMPORARY and the LATEST up to the present ERA!!!
