One thing I know from a hymn sing at Christmas, the British sing..loud, strong and proud. Oh Come All Ye Faithful rocked the Royal Albert Hall…I will never forget it
Nice piece of music but so inappropriate for a service that’s meant to remember the fallen from across the former British Emprie and further afield. What meaning did this song have to the fallen in Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Australia, Canada etc?
Such an inappropriate piece of music for The Festival of Remembrance. Words not remotely related to the kind of religious service being held AND it’s a patriotic anthem, not a hymn, a patriotic anthem about England no less. Men from across the globe fought in the name of The King during the First and Second World War, not just from England. The whole event has really fallen in standard over the last few years and wavers from the original purpose of remembering the glorious dead and thanking God for their service.
I respectfully disagree. There's nothing wrong in remembering the English dead, and this is not the only anthem sung during this service. Every true Englishman acknowledges the service of Scots, Welsh, and the Northern Irish and seeks in no way to belittle them. This is probably the only truly English hymn.
