After installing the DNA performance air filter on my Royal Enfield Classic 350 I also installed the FUEL X Lite. To see if there is a difference in performance, I will do some acceleration tests with the DNA filter vs the original air filter. What's also interesting for me is if the fuel consumption is different compared to the original setting.
Please let me know your experiences in the comments.

I have the same experiences, more a placebo effect in performance because of the sound. But the engine runs smoother with the Fuel X and DNA air filter. Same effect with a loud exhaust, you think the acceleration is faster, but very often it isn't. ;-)

So, to sum up the test: the new air filter and fuel-x brings no better performance at all, but makes the bike more noisy and increases the fuel consumption from 2,6 to 3,6lites/100km?! And it makes the bike lose the warranty? That seems like a no brainer to me! 😂 Thanks a lot for this great and very enlightening test, Marc!👍

Warranty is an important point for me as long as the bike is new. Some say they feel a better performance, for me there was not a huge difference but the engine runs much smoother and throttle response is better with no more popping sounds. ✌️

The guys at Hitchcock mentioned to start riding when you install dna air filter and go through all the gears etc for 15-20 mins for the ecu to calibrate new readings and not leave in idle sitting there for 15 minutes as it’s only getting readings of idle. They also mentioned fuel x is not needed as ecu can cope with just air filter and exhaust change.

When I added the fuel X on my hunter, what I noticed very quickly over leaving it stock was how it smoothed the bit of jerkiness of the throttle on off. It feels a little more refined. Also have the DNA filter and it is a great combo in my opinion. As soon as there are a few more options for a full exhaust, that is what I will do next to see the difference from stock.

Great test vid👍 Late comment sorry. There is a guy in the USA who tested the Fuel X claim of cooler engine temperature running using an infra red thermometer. The result was as Hitchcock also said 10 degrees cooler with the Fuel X . Which on an aircooled engine is alot. So I will fit one plus as Marco says reduces over run pops and gives smoother delivery.
@dertechniker8867
@dertechniker8867 5 месяцев назад
Dear Marc. To make the test 100% correct, you have to give a look on the color of the igniter plug. The new air filter gives a lot of more air. So I could imagine, that the automatic recalibration with the DNA filter don't works properly. Much more air means that the ignition needs also more fuel that the propotion (air - fuel) is correct. Otherwise the engine runs to hot and you risk an engine damage.
@Marc.Stones

Hi, the Fuel X recalibrates automatically the air fuel mixture, especially when the DNA filter is installed, so there are no problems with the temperature. Cheers Marc

I recommend modifying fuel and air for just two cases. You installed an after market cam and decatted it for more power. You installed a side car,excluding the air filter, the FuelX will allow you to run more fuel to help the engine be cooler under the heavier load.

Hi Marc, interesting video, thank you. If it's of any interest to you, I have the Hunter 350 and I check the fuel consumption, quite accurately, every time I fill up. I always use E5 fuel and regularly get about 120 miles per imperial gallon which works out at 2.355 litres per 100 Km. Also, I've had the Hunter for about 11 months and have covered nearly 5000 miles (8046 Km) and, to be honest, the fuel consumption hasn't changed, neither has the performance. I think the notion that engines get better with miles is probably a myth or the difference so small as to be not noticeable. I've owned quite a few bikes over the years and their economy and performance appear to remain the same from new ....... just my take as a mechanical engineer. I enjoy your videos, very well put together 👍
@Marc.Stones
@Marc.Stones 5 месяцев назад
Hi, 2.3 L is a very good fuel consumption 👍 Maybe mine gets better if the engine has a few more miles on it, I am at 800 km at the moment :-) I will deinstall the fuel X and see if the fuel economy changes. Less would be better for my next planned road trip. Cheers Marc

Hmmm. Less than one second better acceleration. Louder exhaust. Perhaps a bit smoother with less popping on deceleration. Poorer fuel economy. Negative effect on the warranty during the warranty period. Easy decision for me at least. If the 350 is truly lacking what I feel I need, then I probably need another bike… As for the cam modification, after watching several channels where that has been done, it appears that even that improvement comes with a heavy dose of subjectivity. Me thinks I’ll stick with stock and love it for what it is. Very nice comparisons! Thanks for that!👍😎

Good information, thanks. I have the same bike for last 18 months. From new I noticed the throttle was a bit snatchy, a slight delay on response. I removed the exhaust that contains catalytic converter and muffler and installed after market, TOO LOUD! Then I put in a S&S baffle from my interceptor, perfect sound. I installed the DNA air filter and find the throttle response much better, smoother and no snatching. I was considering the fuel x but after your testing I won’t bother! These 350’s are a great bike, I own a 2010 Bullet 500, a 2023 Super Meteor and my 2022 C350 Chrome bronze, all great bikes but the 350 is the favourite to ride. Marc I just looked at my last stats on fill up. I’ve got 11,000km on my 350 now, last fuel up was 6.9 litres @242km on trip A. So that’s 35km per litre or 2.85 litres / 100km. A range of 480km is really good touring, I’ve done some good trips on mine, loaded up with camping gear and still plenty of room for comfort. I was looking to buy the alloy wheels and heidenau k60 scouts too, same reason for ease of roadside repair when touring! Love your videos, cheers, Rick from Oz.

Thank you for the video. Please answer if you can? I have seen quite a few of the 350’s with fuelX . The comment is always made supposed to optimize the fuel. The question is to what fuel target ratio? Otherwise it’s just dumping fuel , which I assume is probably 5-10% richer is my guess?? The ECM dies not calibrate to the filter. Regardless it will always seek the factory AFR, reminder it’s a narrow band O2. The fuel x is a piggy back so I can see a modest fuel increase must if the time to reduce jerky throttle and lower speed control. Please check the air filter box next oil change. You will see dirt and dust that passes the filter. That’s what goes in your engine. Also the original cover reduces water and debris from entering . The only thing I would do is a booster plug. Nothing else. I agree in this case staying stock. Enjoy that beautiful bike and save that money that in most cases gets you next to nothing in performance.
@Marc.Stones

It is written on the fuel X website: "FuelX Lite comes with 1 Autotune Map which auto adjusts based on the mods, weather, altitude and riding style - FuelX smartly adapts to variations in riding style and engine characteristics, as well as to add-ons such as exhaust and air-filter" I reinstalled the original air filter with the original cover, I don't know, if you get dirt and dust inside the engine with the DNA air filter, I think the build quality is very high and you are able to clean and oil it. :-)

@Marc.Stones
@Marc.Stones 5 месяцев назад

Regarding the fuel consumption - Keep in mind you ran the bike at idle for 10 minutes x 2 twice. Once for the DNA filter & I assume again for the standard filter. That's 20 minutes of idling. Then you did several hard acceleration speed runs. I think you should test KPL under normal riding conditions. To compare Fuel Lite with standard. Anyways - love the clip - great work.

i tested the acceleration of my bike before i got the dna filter, and have since tested with the DNA filter and noticed a significant difference. however i didn’t test it the way you did, DNA then back to stock. loud sound placebo could be likely, although i put music on in my helmet headset to drown it out, and still felt a significant change in the throttle when no longer focusing on the bikes sound. Induction improvements will only occur when the exhaust flow is increased. They are all one flow path and out makes more effect than in. Remove the Cat, then the K&N filter will maybe help They are good filters that flow better overall. Keep the stock cover it is quiet that is the point the other one is just for the placebo effect as you say it makes it louder. Great review thanks for the show. Couple things to note. 1. Going off the speedo is not an accurate way to tell if there is any improvement. The speedometer is always off by 3mph here in the US so i imagine it being worse being KPM. 2. You have to use some sort of device that accurately tracks speed. I use a dragy and it shows my exact speed and even if im on flat ground. It shows a stupid amount of information to be able to tell if any of the modifications work vs just going off of a speedo. When i tested out my classic it hit 0-60mph in 12 seconds or under. VS stock being noted as 14 to 15 seconds

It's a comparison. The time taken until the needle reaches 80 kph to see if one configuration is quicker than the other. As long as the speedometer reading is repeatable then the actual speed achieved or the inaccuracy of the speedo is irrelevant.

Does the upgrades increase top speed?

No, the Classic 350 has a speed limiter.

@@Marc.Stones Honestly I have never heard of a speed limiter, do you mean a rev limiter?

Yes, I meant a rev limiter. 🤓

@@stevef8065 It actually seems to have both a rev limiter an it will cut power based on wheel speed measured by the ABS rings. The bike is not running in to the Rev limiter in high gear an stops pulling at the same speed if if you change gear ratios. (sprocket size)

Thanks for pointing out that both mods do nothing, or almost nothing. If you can not clearly tell the difference, and you are not sure you can measure any difference, then there *is* no difference.

Interesting test. There is no race horse waiting to be released with these alterations. Personally I feel you are just wasting your money.

the air filter is actually useful regardless. better quality, and the sound is great too. even if the difference in performance isn’t noticeable. personally i noticed it instantly when i used my own. i say let people try it out and try get the best from their bike :)
