I rather like the look of the Scram 411. It would be a good bike for Thailand as it has good low-down torque. Traffic moves slowly here. But I'd wager my 390 would easily see it off at the lights. I like the look of it, though. This channel is a good find.

RE really needs a liter 100hp water cooled twin (and a 750/500 variant) to base a new series of bikes on. Carry over the balance shaft and make them dead smooth, Sport Street, Sport Tour and ADV. And get a DCT in the works. There is a ton of good reasons Honda went this way. They could make it their standard old school bolt upright configuration to keep the looks.

Precisely the kind of mindset that contradicts the RE ethos. What you've proposed is a recipe for making RE yet another one of the dull more-is-more machines that flood the market, using the most boring brand (Honda) as a template for one of the most unique. There are enough large capacity bikes out there. RE succeeds because it understands its significant but under-represented market perfectly, and doesn't believe in power as the be-all and end-all of motorcycles, a fool's pursuit bankrupting brands around the globe. That's what keeps this legacy brand truly classic and retro both inside and out. It's not just looks. It's a mentality appreciated by a particular brand of rider, and it's for this reason they're smoking everyone in the market right now. If other brands could get their heads out their asses, they'd do well to focus on something else besides how many cc's they can cram beneath the tank.
@canuck81
@canuck81 2 года назад
@@ttentionpls I disagree with you. Nobody is saying they need to get rid of their current lineup, however they would be wise to develop an engine with better performance. I love these Royal Enfield bikes, I think they're great. Having said that where I live on the west coast of Canada its very mountainous and I don't see these 411 bikes keeping up to traffic on the highways around here. 120km/hr speed limit up a steep mountain highway would be hard to keep up with traffic on this or the Himalayan, they're barely making 120km on a flat road nevermind a hill or mountainside. I ride a KTM rc390 (it's actually 370 cc I believe) that has a far better performance than RE's 411cc engine (24 horsepower? C'mon). That might fly in India and other markets but not everywhere. While I agree there are plenty of bikes with too much power, building bikes with not enough power will be hard to compete in certain markets. I have seen maybe 1 RE bike on the road where I live. And we have a local dealer here. Were it not for them selling other brands they'd probably go broke.

As fuel prices rise and more speed restrictions gain support for UK roads (cleaner air being the excuse), there seems to be a new market for smaller cc'd commuter and weekend bikes. I'd definitely get one of these over the original Himalayan, reminds me a bit of my old XT500.

I don't know that the 411cc engine would cut it competing as a road-oriented adventure touring bike. I think stripping down to this Scrambler was the right action. But there's rumors of a 450cc with more power coming? That could be the basis of a touring oriented bike.... and others. I like that they tend to come out with a couple flavors of each platform, like the Meteor/Classic, Him/Scram, Interceptor/GT, and they usually give you more and better color options than other brands do. I wish more brands would realize that anything approximating the approachable nature of an old Honda CB400 will sell right now, and changing to simplicity of a single or dual cylinder as well. Seems like only those like RE get it. Honda themselves should come out with a stripped down version of their 500 platform, i.e. Scrambler since I'm not going to pay extra for a 500X when what I want is a Scrambler naked version that the 500F could be with minor changes... but I digress. Seems like only Ducati and Benelli have a real competitor to this bike?! In which case RE wins for me.

I'd have liked to see some engine tweaks, to give it a bit more power, rather than just a light remap. Price will be key though. If it's competitively priced. Then it will sell, and people can do their own engine mods, using things like the tuning parts TEC do for the Himalayan

Hey Mick, Scram 411 launched here in India. I'm looking to purchase my first ever bike, took a short test ride and was amazed by it. I can't stop thinking about getting it here, only remaining test ride is of a Honda bike, and I've the RE Classic 500 and the Scram is very torque-y, it's a lot of fun in the city with traffic As for the price tag, it's almost about $200 USD cheaper than the Himalayan, roughly translating my currency to USD
@andersbarfodsvaneskolan9378
The most gains you will get is to change the camshaft.. TEC parts have one for the 411cc single cylinder engine.. Just the cam change gave them 15.4% more horsepower and 10.6% more torque. So 28 hp and 35.4Nm of torque. A little above 29 hp if you modify the air system on the bike.
@vansantsam
@vansantsam 2 года назад
The 411 makes no sense to me.. There isn't anything that it does that the Himalayan can't do (in terms of completing the task).. You can always take a Himalayan and remove the wind screen and upper fender, buy a 19 inch front wheel and tire, buy a different rear shock and off you go - this would also allow you to switch back and forth if you so desire to wrench it a little..
