The bands of the Royal Marines marching to Horse Guards Parade, London, for Beating Retreat 2018 because the upkeeping costs to make this video's, you can make a donation via the link below getfunded.nl/campagne/4383-on...
They are in a class by themselves because they have have 400 years parading (exploiting, colonising others) on all 5 continents. Americans have only been doing this since 1945. Practise makes perfect. Hooha
This song is known as Army of the Nile, and has a bit of history. It was made to commemorate the British forces during the North African campaign. I am playing this song in band, and it isn't an easy piece, even whilst stationary. This is amazing that they managed to perform this piece so well, all whilst marching.
The Royal Marines were formed in the year 1664 they were known as the Duke of Albanys Maratime Regiment of Foot. 357 years later they still serve the crown and the Royal Navy.
Same here. I just wish my generation could actually be proud of their nation, and nice to one another, instead of needlessly hating on it and themselves.
A radioactive can of beans theres a difference between hating and criticizing injustice and unfairness where people see it. I agree sometimes people take it quite far but you need to remember they love their country as much as you love it. See the world for what it can be not as it is or something like that!
I’m a retired US Marine and once had the opportunity to attend the BRM Commando Course, much love and respect for my fellow brothers in arms, BRM’s are certainly ready, willing and able to get the job done. Semper Fi.
Cheezsoup the fuck did you want them to do they were outnumbered more than 10:1 and you expected them to fight that knowing it would be a suicide mission?
Mr Mxyzptlyk My uncle and dad were Scots Guards. I joined RAMC (V) then transferred to medical branch RNR. Only marched behind a marine band once and I grew 6 inches. I’m normally 6’7”
They are not First Class Soldiers, the Band Service does no Military training Some of the Buglers can switchover to Commando training if they pass the approx 8 months training if they switch they are then just like any other New Recruit Had about four of them in my squad and they all made it thru
@@yomperone To the contrary. All band service ranks must pass 15 weeks basic military training. This is modelled on the first half of Commando training, with differences made due to the different nature of the RMBS job roles. The skills learned here are then refreshed each year, with intensive training serials before deployments. Many of the RMBS wear medals from Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Northern Ireland and beyond. Buglers go through training with the rest of the new recruits and have no special dispensation in regards to transferring.
@@yomperone They do all the phase one exercises that a normal recruit does, albeit more leniency is given in the physical standards and expectations, but not in much else. Theyre soldiers as much as any other services soldiers.
A lot of respect to the British here! This is amazing and I truly hope you guys keep your fantastic culture, especially that of your military to the same standard it's always been. It is essentially a staple of being British. Much love from Germany!
AmazinglyGayPhil Jesus Christ, German culture is very much alive. It vanishing by Immigration is a myth. -_- There are plenty of old traditions no one gives a damn about anymore in Germany because people are simply not religious anymore... Or events got pushed aside by American equivalents, for example Halloween. Nothing ever got erased how many alt right minds want to believe. And, if anything, it's US culture being a threat to German culture, definitely not eastern immigrants.
dogman the British used to be insane imagine 50k troops walking in perfect sequence being shot at by muskets and no one breaks there step balls of fucking steel
During WWII in Italy, a British major and an American lieutenant were occupying the same fox hole while the German artillery was severely pounding their position. The American, who later wrote about it, admitted that he personally was really shaken up. When the shelling ended, he looked at the British major, and the Brit looked calmly about, and commented "Well, Jerry's had his little bit of hate." You gotta admire those guys!
Grenherb u do know that ww2 was started by nazi Germany invading Poland, England did not want to work with the ussr before ww2 started and at the starts of ww2 the ussr was in a defence pact with Germany Britain only became allied with the ussr in 1941 when Germany invaded the ussr with out a provocation just like Germany invaded Poland with out a provocation
you do not that Bromberger Bloodsunday was committed after the germans invaded Poland not before they did, while it was a horrible act it cannot be used to justify the german invasion
You know you are watching an extremely well performed, perfectly drilled military band when you get the most intense of shivers down your spine. RCAF 2010-Present
Imma a member of Col.Charles Young American Legion Post #682 from PHILLY PA, USA these guys are awesome, the strut & pride they give me goosebumps loving every bit...PLUS THAT DRUMLINE IS AWESOME..THANX FOR SHARING ❤
Love it when they split formation around the traffic island and come back together perfectly in step...now that is what you call 'drilled to perfection'.
I love the Chile Army because of its Prussian designs which was influenced by the Prussians when they went to train the soldiers there. It's like looking into the past at a culture long gone :). From England
Having been in marching bands for a few years and knowing how hard it is to keep your own individual rank straight and evenly placed, in step is an incredible task while you yourself are trying to stay in time and sounding good. Bravo to the Royal Marines marching band this was incredibly impressive and awesome to watch.
Class 421 4-Cig obviously but pretending that women are soldiers who put their lives on the line when they’re still only in supporting roles is laughable.
atque scientia europa universalis women are allowed to be medics on the frontlines and you are saying they are not soldiers, this implies you don’t think they risk their lives to support normal infantrymen
A heart throbbing display of Marine precision, and musical and marching finesse. My fellow U.S. Marine buddy, always remembered the men of 41 Commando enroute to the Frozen Chosin, in the worse weather imaginable, breaking the ice each day so they could shave. They'd snap to and fall in like they were on a parade muster, before taking off on patrol into Chinese territory. The combined bands are a testimonial to their glorious battlefield history.
I neglected to compliment the top drawer professional shoot of the Videographer/Cinematographer. Outstanding work. You couldn't have done any better even with a dolly and crane.
Absolute class from start to finish! Nobody does pomp and swagger like us Brits. What a display of culture, history, tradition, training and discipline. What an advert for our Armed Forces! Well done Bootnecks, from an ex Para.
We're small We're undermanned We're poorly equipped in some respects We're underpaid But we will always maintain our ability to carry out a mission and have incredible training
We may be small but we are the best of the best ask anyone who knows , our special forces are in demand all over the world, just mention the SAS ,PARAS or the ROYAL MARINES and you will know what I mean . Whenever there is a problem in the world we are usually the first country to be asked for assistance.
Nicely done. I enjoyed working with you chaps while assigned to Nato. Keep up the good work in the discipline. Cheers. From a US Marine. Brothers in Arms.
A British military band giving a fantastic display in Britain.why does it provoke all the nasty comments about race religion Brexit etc , and the snide comments about Britain and the USA .just watch and enjoy
It really is fantastic and not many other countries can match the Brits when it comes to military music. But the Yanks are pretty good too. The Houthis? Not so much. I especially like the drums at around 3:48 onward.
@PhreshFunk i think all neil is saying is that influence has diminished drastically in the last half century. Currently it's sitting at a relatively similar level to say 2000. I was going to say 1997 but then remembered the handover of Hong Kong. Neil isn't wrong but i would hesitate to call you wrong too. :)
@@frasergreen9454 Well we've got a change of guards and an incredible army band as well, we're just a friendlier nation that helps people in need instead of blatantly saying no. I'll admit that our intake of refugees got way out of hand but the three biggest parties currently wants to lower it
Just for the heck of it I watched a lot of RU-vid’s on various military bands tonight. Why? Who knows. The Royal Marines in this video are clearly in a class all there own. I also think it’s amazing how the comments in this thread drifted from how good the band was to “my forces are better than your forces.” And even a hot discussion of the American Revolution no less! This band is GOOD...just watch and enjoy. Those drummers! Just wow!
Royal Marine Band are ok but will never be in the same class of the Scottish army pipers. The marine band have the luxury of having the music in front of them whilst pipers have to knock their pan off on in learning every note and grace note off by heart probably ten times the work. As a Piper myself I could walk into a band in no time knowing I had the music right in front of my eyes. Not only is the pipes a much more difficult lesson to master but learning tunes is another thing. Different league altogether
Watching this brings back good memories of me and my family visiting London, and watching the Changing of the Guards at Wellington barracks, so much pride and tradition, we love London and England. God save the Queen.
I miss the days of the Royal Marines school of music in Deal, Kent. I grew up listening to these guys practicing! Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia etc! Amazing! The world's best military band!
Olwen Morgan: The Royal Marines at their Hamworthy base are actually mainly members of their SBS (Special Boat Service), the Royal Marines Special Forces unit.
You guys are smoking Britain will become irrelevant like the rest of Europe. Global power and influence will pivot to Asia in the latter 21st and 22nd century.
Shouldn’t have touched the “rock collection” without permission, I would have called it an invasion on a sovereign territory by force. Their are diplomatic ways to avoid a war. Use them…save lives.
@@dostoievskyiii6251 I think you're under a misapprehension. "Beating the retreat" is not about retreating in battle, it originates in ceremonies at dusk, ie. the end of the day when guards are set and soldiers retreat to their quarters in the evening ready for sleep. "Retreat marches" are part of the same thing where a musician plays at the end of the day when soldiers retreat to quarters to sleep. As for the Malvinas; they belong to Argentina.
My father served in the Royal Marines in WW2. I took him to one of the last Tattoos in Earls Court and when the Marines Band came out and played 'A Life on the Ocean Wave' I watched the tears roll down his face. Once a Marine always a Marine.
Imagine hearing the drums as the endless red lines kept charging up bunker hill, no matter what cost they just kept going. The fear of seeing such a huge and mighty force attacking you must’ve been unbelievable. Respect to everyone who has served in the RM and to anyone who has been on the receiving end of their fury, a well trained and purely special fighting force.
@karma comedian some say it’s too long but I think by the end of that it’s just enough to weasel out anyone who lacks the super human ability required to serve in the RM 😎
What a great performance by the Massed Bands of HM Royal Marines ……. probably the finest performance ever seen by this group of highly professional military musicians and drummers ….. the music is exemplary, the drill is faultless with perfectly straight lines/ranks and the "showmanship" is just outstanding, especially when the bands march onto Horseguards Parade and they split into FIVE separate bands, marching away from each other band. Faultless indeed.
One of the best things I've seen in my life, very uplifting. There is one tiny little mistake at 5.19 in when one of the drum corps raises their sticks when nobody else does (2nd row) - I don't care, but I bet they got some stick- pardon the pun, for that.
@@ErmintrudeRissole And while we are nitpicking - or aiming for true perfection - at 6:32 there's a bit of irregularity which must have caused the poor individual to miss some sleep afterwards.
@@maartenvdheuvel I'm pointing out a fact. The irregularity may well have caused a lack of sleep. The HMRMC strive for perfection. That's the difference between being good if that suffices, or being the best.
@@ErmintrudeRissole True. And the more perfected the performance, the more any imperfection shows. BTW no offense intended with my choice of words regarding the nitpicking thing.
beating the retreat is not like when your in the middle of a battle getting beaten and you retreat. beating the retreat is simply when troops stop fighting and leave the battlefield and go back to camp for the night. Its an old tradition before night vision and 24hour battles.
Thanks to this video I became obsessed with this wonderful band (during the pandemic lockdown) and visited London this summer just to catch a glimpse at the Beating Retreat 2022!
