I did my course at lympstone in 1991 prior to our close observation troop deployment with 42 recce troop to Northern Ireland. I ended up attached to 1 para patrols platoon in Belfast as a sniper because they didn’t have any . Good to hear the course is still nails to pass . With the passes you had 1st class and marksman who achieved their badge . Anything else was a fail . I went on to Poole as a maritime counter terrorist helo sniper

Did you ever know or hear about Sgt Al Harbar..he was in Recce 42 when I joined the troop in Sabah ,late 1964, firstly then later a second tour in Sarawak. He was a marine then and the troop sniper but his total dedication earned my respect,as well as other troop members. He was later awarded the BEM ( or mbe..not sure) Sadly he died some 20+ years ago)

should i complete my a levels first? cause at the moment im planing on dropping out now or at christmas. cause i dont see them helping me in the future. and if tyou did a levals first do you think that gave you an advantage in training?
@disposabull
@disposabull Год назад
Finish your A levels. The average for applicants to the Royal Marines is over 20 I think so if you go in at 16\17 you will be the baby of the group. For a lot of courses you don't just need physical fitness you also need to do a lot of academic work in a short space of time so having A levels will help just because you are used to studying at a higher level. Spend your time getting fit, get the squats in, run with weight, run in boots etc

What a hoofin interview, so much shite on SM nowadays but to hear an ex bootneck talk so candidly about his failings and weaknesses, then how he triumphed is brilliant. Great stuff Royal keep it up PMPT 🙌

Cheers Royal appreciate that mate, glad you liked it 💪💪
@christhomashealthperforman9639
Thank you Royal, as you say there is so much of success and not a great deal about the journey getting there on SM. Things are far from straight forward in any line of work when you strive to become the best version of yourself. I wanted to lay the cards on the table with exactly how it felt to me, so hopefully others will take the leap when opportunities present themselves, if they would have previously doubted their ability.
@sirdavepercyware-armitagei695
@@christhomashealthperforman9639 I’m just a rubber dagger mate and I joined up very late. I had a good time in the RMR and I have so many good mates both reg corps and Reserves. I love hearing your honesty about your performance and skill level early on in your career and I think it’s great that you share that. So much of the military mindset glosses over the reality of training whether reg or reserve, and just how much of an emotional, mental and physical challenge it can be. Great video mucker - you prob know a lad I used to work with doing CP, in fact I know 2 ex snipes actually! Anyway, really lifted me because i was a very average bloke so your podcast made me feel much better 👍
