This is leadership gold! I’m joining the RAAF as a direct entry Ground Defence Officer and I’ve always looked up to the Royal Marines. My best mates father was one and saw active service in The Troubles, Gulf and Afghan, he mentored me into passing the Officer Selection Board. I’m flying out in 10 days so this was perfect timing, thanks! 🇦🇺 x 🇬🇧

Enjoying this podcast and seeing two proper Royal Marines and gaining some insight from someone who has done it. Had I not joined the Royal Hong Kong Police I would like to have joined the Royal Marines. I also entered the private sector many years ago and still use GSMEAC for briefings and getting a grip of the waffling civvies.

Amazing timing on this podcast, thank you really helped me! I'm 25 and planned on joining as an officer after uni but it never materialised for a number of reasons, but now I'm that bit older I am far better suited as an individual for it. I just hope I can sign up this year as I'll be too old to go direct entry otherwise.

I really needed to see this interview it has helped me get an answer to most of my questions about the officer role. I'm definitely going for it. I can't allow myself to not even try. My core goal is royal marine, but if I'm already full throttle why not go for officer? One question I still have is, while you're not one of the lads, can you still make similar relationships with other officers at your rank?
@CompleteCommando
@CompleteCommando 3 года назад
Go for it mate! You won’t have as close friendships because the lads are 4 to a room and do everything together. But officers certainly have their close circles and friendship groups.

Hi Sam, what happens if you get injured in YO training? Is Hunter available to the batch or are you binned off since there's only one batch a year?
@rosiegiesler4705
@rosiegiesler4705 2 года назад
My brother is an officer cadet and this year the training process has completely changed. What occurs is that 50 British recruits are put onto training. Then their are 10 recruits who are either international recruits fighting for our country and now which is new for this year their are re-called officer inured during training. He’s been told he will have 6 cadets from last years batch with him and 4 international recruits with him. Their is compition though they won’t just enlist an officer cadet because they are injured, you will go forward for a board and have had to of shown exceptional ability in training close to top of the batch. If your in the middle or at the bottom of the pack they’ll just dismiss you from training all together. If nobody is injured then they allow for more British and international recruits.

No one enjoys suffering. It's something you adapt too. The more you go through the more you can adapt and take.
