This song is inspiring especially for those of us that struggle with addiction. Didnt even know about this song and stumbled upon it and saw this comment. I'm glad I found, I relate to what he's saying in so many ways.
I was born July 5 84’ and caught a gun charge in 2006 and struggled with drinking after getting out. Royce just took the words out my mouth I will forever love this song. G.O.A.T 🙌🏾
Your comment is 4 years old, but seriously. Royce has only gotten better and better which is impressive. Guy is one the best right now, but he's being overshadowed by the new wave emcees right now (think Griselda and their affiliates for example). Royce can keep up with or outrap the new wave (which has set the bar high af), but I think fans are more focused on the new, dope era we're in right now; the fresh sounds, styles, and voices. It is what it is, though. No one will deny Royce is one of the best.
Jesus Christ, I haven't heard this song in YEARS. Just randomly thought about it today . . . This is one of the best instrumentals ever produced - easily. DJ Premier made a masterpiece. Premier is one of the greatest producers Hip Hop will probably ever see. He doesn't deserve mere flowers; he deserve the entire garden.
I remember when this song dropped.. everyone counted Royce out, like he was just a fuck up, but not Preem.. he saw something in Ryan.. I'm so fucking glad he did, and he was right. One of the most talented dudes alive. Imagine if Preem stopped fucking with Royce after he got out. We would've missed out on two AMAZING PRhyme albums, not to mention Royce's solo album with songs like Cocaine and Summer on Lock.
That 2nd verse is one of my favorite ever. I witness my world tumble down like bricks Two words she slurred, and it sounded like this One year, traveled through the room like moonlight Through the darkness, ooh it's heartless How could, I beat two felonies then Turn around and lose like, like this My lawyer sayin stay calm, people sayin pray for him They lockin my black ass up, like Akon My wife at the crib goin crazy Pregnant, yellin "I ain't havin no more babies" People sayin Preem ain't fuckin with me no mo Niggas in the pen lookin homo, no I gotta shake this...
This track dropped just as I was going thru my BS too.. it was surreal how hearing this sounded too similar to what I had goin on in life! The inspiration felt from this is eternal Thank you Royce da 5’9 im certain this track helped alot of lost souls regain their focus
Everyone confused about why Royce isn't labeled a great, I'll tell you why.. you need a certain level of intelligence to understand him. These days. No one would understand what he is saying because everyone now days is so fucking stupid. Only real hip hop fans and people who understand hip hop as an art would respect him.
