Porsche has a great many fans, some of the biggest are the folk at RPM Technik. Not only are they passionate about restoring and selling Stuttgart's finest, they're also building their own take on the 911 - the CSR.

Love the concept behind the CSR, love that it's a bit different without looking overly messed with, love the C2S approach and when I was in touch with RPM about the car, they couldn't have been nicer or more enthusiastic - which, being the opposite to what I've found at every Porsche dealer I've dealt with - is also a huge plus. A CSR is definitely on the shopping list when I shop next. On another note.... the comment at the start about every Porsche purchase being emotive is probably largely restricted to used purchases. New ones? Been to a Porsche forecourt lately? By the time you wind your way past the wall of Cayennes and then around the Panameras and Macans, you'll see the odd new 991 or Boxster, 90+% of them automatics and usually in a very dull, boring colours. Emotion started to pack its bags at Porsche sometime around 1996, headed to the door when the Motorsport programme got cancelled, walked out when the Cayenne arrived and locked the door behind it when the 991 GT3 went PDK only.

Superb point, I would take a CSR 996/997 over a new 991 any day, other than for out and out track times why pick a sports car without a manual gearbox? I can understand to a certain degree if it's your daily driver.

Hows the suspension feel compared to a GT3? Been looking at the Ohlins R&T setup but the springs are something like 350lbs front 680lbs rear. Quite stiff! But that damping is supposed to be top notch. Not sure if that makes up for it.

although a 911 has become something you see everyday, it's still a stunning looking and driving car.

Does light weight flywheel have any bad affect on engine bcz I heard that light weight or single mass flywheel upgrade destroy engine bcz dual mass flywheel absorb all the engine vibration

Love the work guys but here's some constructive criticism. I think you should lose that filter or use one that is applied to all the spectrum rather than just green etc otherwise it looks like a twelve year old made it on camwow

Good suspension, good tires, good exhaust... Don't mess with a Porsche after that. No need to pay a shop a ridiculous amount of money to complete some basic mods

911: the most meaning-laden 3 numbers in history. And, IMO, the finest sports car that can actually be driven daily. Yeah, they have had some problems, all high performance cars do, but they are fun to drive.

Thinking about buying the 996 version - it's got to be the best base to work from surely? Car was really interesting. Notably fun at normal speeds. had a c63 and you were breaking all laws with a small amount of fun.

I have them on my Evo X, same ones, Road and Track. Really amazing ride quality on my daily drive, perfectly balanced really. Switched from KW V3s, night and day. Only $2600 for the set too, not even too terrible, considering JRZ, Moton, Penske, etc.. makes some stuff well over 10k for my car.

Rather go to Shark Werks for modifying a Porsche. Too flashy for a 911.

The backseat bit is kind of a joke. You'd have more room in the back if those seats were removed and you just sat the floor or a little shelf.

I'll be taking our ordered new MY98 911 (993) C2S coupe with me to the after-Life. The present day 991, 991.2 and 911's yet to be imagined are all inspiring sports cars. However here is the however..... the 911's produced throughout the "evolution production decades" have a DNA not translated to the 997 series and beyond .... Okay this is debatable, ,,,arguments aside a personalized 911 coupe by tuning tech firms with the caliber of RPM Technik are the very best ... Find a 964 or 993 series donor and give RPM Technik a green light. A Singer 911 like coupe on a mortal $ budget.

A couple of things stand out to me here. To start with, the engine revving up to 3000RPM on cold start when it could have been switched off for God knows how long is NOT A GOOD THING. You need oil to the valve train before you start revving it above idle, I'd HOPE it had priority oiling to the bottom end anyway, so it's just the valve train that's a concern... Secondly, you WEREN'T looking to pick up ANY power when rebuilding the engines and therefore were satisfied with a 20hp gain! WTF, are you guys for real? They are mass produced engines and with that come compromises, inconsistencies and flaws in design. Any decent mechanic would see that as an opportunity for improvement. The amount of and type of improvement would depend on it's intended purpose and the customer's budget. There are SO MANY things that could have been improved upon while it was apart, and when rebuilding old classics in the workshop I'm employed at- that's exactly what we do. It would be very easy to increase the compression ratio, clean up the cylinder head castings and blend the valve bowls into the inlet runners in a way the factory could only dream of in a mass produced engine (or porting the head properly if the budget allowed for it for even better flow). Camshaft selection is another easy gain in hp, better valve springs to make it tolerate race style driving for extended periods. Properly port matched inlet manifolds to cylinder heads runners, better fasteners is a MUST and you would have to be on crack to not fit it out with ARP main studs, head studs and upgraded 'rod bolts. I could just keep going and going here. Hearing this was nothing but disappointment and shock. They could have made something really special here. Maybe they need a good Aussie mechanic to help them improve their engine program. I'm available, I'm just saying... Although I suspect the wage wouldn't be worth packing up the family and moving half way around the world for.
