Welcome to another video . This time I had a phone call from the owner of this RS3 . Car was on fire while driving and since then the engine runs poor . So we took it in and during the diagnostic we found this … Thank you for watching
@@fringemajority8805Audi or the vw 2.5 for a good portion of it? 2.5 isn’t bad it’s the components Audi surrounds it with that might be. But the 2.5 its self is strong.
@@EastDallasKicks true, but timing components on the rear of an engine should be banned...I sent a link of a video we made , we ran 2 vw's head to head at full throttle with no engine oil until the blew, 2.5 lasted 45 seconds longer than 2.0 ru-vid.comXnA8_QYyBsA?si=ehkOQCacNoTjvTme
This is frankenstein, fl front and virtual cocpit from 2017 onwards and czgb engine from 2015-2016? Differend spark plugs and coil pack. Really bad mantained. All injectors should be checked and replaced. When injector stuck open it will wash not only the piston but also cylinder wall from the oil and will cause catastrophic failure. Btw only oem spark plugs and coil pack ared the best.
Looks like it was not maintained properly at all, people don’t realise fast cars need a bigger budget for maintenance. You will be driving it harder and faster than a normal car, it will need to be maintained by people who know what they are talking about, like you guys, you can’t drive the bag out of an RS3 and think bollicking around with that sort of crap maintenance won’t bite you in the balls, hard 🙁🇮🇪
u can't have a champagne car like this, high performance, and expect to run/ maintain it on beer money - it won't work. These cars need TLC and expert care. It's an RS...think about that and let it sink in...v high performance and you never have 2 different types of spark plug in the vehicle and different coil packs. Come on...seriously?
My wife has 2016 RS3 from new, so here's a bit of advice for anyone who wants to buy such a car: if something goes wrong but you have full Audi service history, even though the car is out of warranty, Audi will do huge discount on the cost of repair as long as you use them to do it. In her case the haldex clutch failed after 48k miles and it was replaced for ~50% of the cost. We had similar story with her previous car which was an Evo, timing chain needed replacement shortly after warranty ran out and it was heavily discounted by mitsubishi.
Wont really apply to a lot of poeple though, majority of the owners will modify the car, and any modifications to the car, audi will refuse to give a discount. However it is good to always service it at a main dealer if you dont intend on mods.
That is the '"goodwill" warranty that almost every car manufacturer has. Applied to out of warranty but still low mileage and full dealer service history cars. Of course the powertrain can't be modified in that case. Usually the parts are discounted almost 100% and owner has to pay for the labor only. Most of the time it ends up to be a 50/50 split of the total costs.
Only trouble is you're paying main dealer rates, and they don't have half the knowledge of the guys here. You may get a master tech, but really they are taking a new engine straight of a pallete to fit.
@@mobilrzexactly. 50k for a failing clutch and you are happy with 50%. I wouldn't be happy about it at all. the mechanics of the vag group just do whatever, they are a bunch of clowns
The morale of the story is, don't buy such a performance car thinking you can run it on a shoestring! Many owners make this mistake and end up paying out thousands in rebuilds and repair, solely due to a lack of proper servicing and maintenance, opting instead to using cheap parts, fluids and cowboy mechanics.
So your excuse is the special performance 'RS' Audi, that cost 2X as much as the standard car. can't handle a Autobahn blast... What kind of BS is that? Paid 2X as much as the standard car, only to have to pussy foot it around so it dose not blow up. What a joke.
I would say its improper care by the owner, it should be ok to "abuse" it all the time. My uncle still owns a 2006 s3 that has never, ever been driven "reasonably" and its in like new condition
VCDS is a god send. My first purchase after picking up a V8 S5. Paid for itself the only time the car went into limp mode as I was able to diagnose a dead spark plug down to the exact cylinder and, with the aid of a complete set of new Audi plugs, fix the issue in a couple of hours. Super diagnostic tool for VW AUDI Group engines.
Fantastic video again, very interesting. On one of your earlier videos, can’t remember exactly which one but it was another 5 cylinder engine, think you said the 5 cylinder was one of the strongest and problem free. What would be your thoughts on this one, in relation to its failure. Lack of proper and scheduled maintenance, or driven to hard? Thanks David Ps the owner got more than his £50 worth in your diagnosis and advice.
Every engine can fail, even good and strongest engines, some units sometimes fail. But high powered turbo engines, as example, at full boost you fuel supply suddenly cut, then pistons can melt. At full boost, some smaller issue can cause bigger problems, if you are cheap and use secand hand ignitin coils, some random spark plugs etc.
This is clearly a case of a car being serviced on the cheap. Mismatched spark plugs and coils packs. I doubt it has had proper oil changes. I own an RS3. These cars are bullet proof and cheap to maintain with the correct maintenance. You can drive them as hard as you want, providing you service accordingly. Sadly, a lot of young posers buy these cars to look flash but don't have the means to look after them.
i owned an izuzu diesel van from 1987 to 1999 .it did 900 000 miles untill it died with almost no maintenace. these audis are pos cars. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE
Who ever owned this car, bought it and thought its an AUDI it can be thrashed and not serviced. I just don't get it when people don't look after something that so expensive. Id say more money than brains but lets be honest probably no money and no brains.
well it is an RS, it should be able to take the punishment. look at BMW turbos, from the 335 to the new b43 4 cylinder, you dont see them failing at 50k miles
Champagne lifestyle, Lemonade money. Why don't people think about the costs of running a high performance car and any major repairs it might need in the future because think about it nobody drives an RS3 like an old lady going to her local shops once a week people buy them to rag around and show off in, going by his voice on the phone he's a young lad so he may have to pull his finger out and get a lot more Pablo powder sold 😂
This is hectic. I love the RS3 and want to switch my supercharged 3.0tfsi to an RS3 sedan, but seeing this....well...I'd like to know what caused this. I'm hoping this was owner-error and caused by cheap modifications which would negate my worries. Even the BEST cars don't survive BAD owners. Don't be cheap with expensive cars, kids. Those mismatched spark plugs and coilpacks tells me everything I need to know. It also doesn't add up to the "we replaced the pipe" story the owner spinned. I would ask for money UP FRONT before doing any work on cars with sus-owners like this. This reeks of cheap-owner-expensive-car. RIP RS3....you deserved better.
Surely owner error. You can tell it wasn't cared for at least for the last 20k miles. How has the 3.0tfsi been for you? I'm thinking about getting an S4 CREC b8.5
Poor RS3, looks like it had had a rough life, and not maintained very well at all. Doing things on the cheap will always come back to get you down the road.
Oh man, hope there was someone like you here in Colombia, it's a headache having a Touareg 2020 with the EA839 turbo, which got an oil leak from the oil cooler at just 40.000km which will take more than a month to get fixed by the dealer. Can't be more dissapointed on seeing those nice cars being broken so easily costing a lot of money and time to get fixed.
Built a few of these now. Most common failure is stuck injector taking the piston out. All have been overbored and forged builds. I’ve built couple with engines already removed for not a horrendous price. If owner is on here and wants to sell it let me know 👍🏻
No way the guy was going to repair this car looking at the damage and seeing how it had been serviced with second hand spares that aren't even fully compatible with the car, he will no doubt cheap it out to a back street garage who have zero clue, you might see it back again one day when the guy surrenders to the reality of the repair, another reason i never buy second hand exotica, few people are willing to hand over the money it takes to keeps these cars tip top, buying an Audi RS but spending on it like it is a VW Lupo.
No. Only the bad ones appear on these videos, like EVERY other car that shows up in similar videos. This engine was abused somehow, mismatched plugs, coils, and probably a really bad tune with a failed injector thrown in for good measure.
50 quid for this job? Here in Sweden my Audi dealer charged me 175 quid and they didn’t even remove anything on the engine, just the covers underneath and then listened around….
I also noticed this too. SO odd. Either it is a facelift rs3 and somehow had the engine replaced with the older CZGB engine but then the ecu wont work with it. So most likely it is a PFL rs3 with a facelift bumper conversion and retro fit virtual cockpit.
@@aidencoder you are right, the czgb was still being used even on 2018-2019 audi RSQ3's whilst the rs3 from 2017+ was using the new engine DAZA (2017-2018) or DNWA (2019+). But all 2017+ RS3's had the DAZA engine and not the one in this video which means this is a 2015-2016 Pre facelift rs3 with the virtual cockpit and front bumper conversion from the facelift rs3.
Amazing how Audi get away with shoddy design and build quality, then overcha for spares, and prevent using an alternative engine. Solution: buy a Japanese or Taiwanese car.
This is why I wouldn't buy a popular, "cheap", fast car. They've all likely been ragged and poorly maintained. Buying one privately is beyond brave imo!
Extremely cheap and reasonable! I would have been £50 for initially reading the codes, further charge for compression test and further charge for removing and re fitting the rocker cover. The equipment used is not cheap. Customer got a lot for £50. Well done
Sounds like another dodgy remap like the RS4 with 2nd hand engine you put in! The way these owners treat the cars, it always bites them in the ass eventually.
Such pity to happen to an amazing vehicle. Never cheap out on Audi parts replacement nor mix & match part #. When replacing coils and spark plugs, replace them all at once to give the engine a full fresh ignition.
what a shame - such a nice car and not looked after so that the owner can enjoy it to its full potential. If you're gonna get a car like this, need to ensure that you have the proper mechanic ( YOU Tomaz ) looking after it...there is no way I'd have a car like this and it not get looked at properly - I'm not saying to sell your soul to get it done, but have the cash to to the basics and then the other stuff will be easy as you're keeping on top of the maintenance schedule. My S4 ( 2014 B8 ) was looked after ny me during "lock down" - I'm not a mechanic, never worked on a car before...but youtube was a saviour and I managed to do an oil change, changed the sparks, internal air filter, oil filter, brakes, discs, air intake swap out, by myself getting some basic tools. Things like the drive shaft ( that went ), oil filter ( that went ) and other bits were done by this man in this video - he's a legend - his v direct, which I like, and if I'd not done the basics then my car wouldn't be still running after doing 106,000 miles!!!!
I was thinking the same very odd.... especially with all the random parts.... engine is in a state but outside it looks new and mint looks like somebody just polished a turd... probs spent all his money making it look like a face lift lol
When you don’t know what you’re doing leave it alone and get professional help nice car with an owner who doesn’t realise the cost of good maintenance 🙈👍
I had my 2015 a4 80,000 miles it was drinking oil 1 quart every tank of gas. The back bumper was black. And it started to rattle. So I took it to Audi of Fairfield CT and they said one of the spark plugs was broken. So they told me it needed an engine. They quoted me $12,000 for a new engine from Audi installed so I was shocked when you said €12,000 for a used engine.😮
As the saying goes, if you can’t afford to run one new, then you definitely can’t afford to run a second hand one. There isn’t a barge pole long enough with which not to touch this car.
Wow, that kind of hurts my heart a little. I can't believe this isn't considered a total loss especially when you look at the interior. Hopefully the owner pursues this in the legal realm with whoever worked on it before you guys looked at it. Cheapest diag costs I've ever seen for a shop of your caliber. The owner probably doesn't realize the work involved in properly diagnosing problems like this. Best news, this wont be your problem and hopefully you wont see it again with a different engine code and a "it doesn't seem to run right" problem.
The problems on these RS cars comes from owners skipping or doing “budget” servicing. You’ve got to look after these motors. These cars deserve proper maintenance.
Bottom line don't buy a car like this unless it's really really the car you want to have and aer prepared to have it ruin you!. Buy the best one you can not the cheapest unless you are prepared to pay the experts 6 figures to fix it or do engine work etc. yourself. I think YT videos like " I bought the cheapest "xyz" in the UK are often giving people a rose tinted idea of what's really involved in taking on a car like that.
There is no chance a CZGB is 10-12K hahahah. A daza complete with grearbox is 10-12K hahahaha. Sorry but whereever you are shopping is wildly overpriced

Sorry but if you want to buy engine from swamp with no warranty cheap as possible just to save money , you are at wrong place
Here is an advice for all of you, after many years on using nearly europea cars only, i had and still have only big issues, although i'm crazy o taking care about my cars. The fact is, the most reliable cars are not the european ones but Toyota and Honda. You can ask the ADAC insurance the biggiest one in Europe about which are the most cars they have to pick up and the answer will be everytime : BMW, MERCEDES, Audi. That is why we an find so many Information on how to repair These cars by ourselves and that is why there are so many mechanics out there who make Videos about These cars. They decided to repair These cars because they have go bad fast and in so they have sutely everetime work, forever. DON'T BUY THOSE CARS!!! THEY ARE A BEAUTIFUL TRASH!!
When you live with a 300hp+ audi, you have to have always an extra 5k on your bank account for service costs. Edit: I still rely on my 2.0tfsi A6 4F, dont have 5k extra.
Shocking in this day and age that a 50000 mile car has engine problems. Then again this car looks like it has been tampered with. Trying to run a champagne car on lemonade money.
After watching this........I still haven't seen a White interior 😂😂😂 I suppose this is what happens when Sanjay relies on his Mother banging Her Flip flop as a Wakeup call 😂😂
When you cheap out on buying 5 freakin spark plugs which is what about 150 oem then you deserve your fate. Get a 200 quid car to get you around for a few months then scrap it when you’re done.
Someone’s knackerd the engine (low compression), tried to fix it why loads of cables unplugged, decided they can’t afford to repair it or can’t do it themselves and then decided to try and torch it for insurance purpose to get out of the cost of a repair.
people who have these cars are all about looks and flash but wont spend money on maintenance and repairs, are you that cheap you can afford a set of matching coil packs🤣🤣
Whoever was working on it liked to play nut and bolt roulette and throw away 50% of fasteners at random? And it looks like that was the least of their sh*tbodgery.
The numbers dont really add up , these are nearly disposable , drive it and if it goes bang , bin it. probably ok if you can do your own spanner work , do Audi make a decent engine any more ??
For the loss of a nail in a horseshoe leads to the loss of a horse, which leads to the loss of the rider, which leads to the loss of the battle, which in turn leads to the loss of a whole kingdom. The person can't afford the car seems the biggest reason, as well as being an Audi.
