My heart goes out to you...I'm weeping. In 2019 I crashed my motorcycle, broke my legs, arms and hands, plus my left leg got ripped open to the bone. Still I got very lucky...no nerve damage, nothing with my head. Spend multiple month in hospital. Had to learn how to walk, eat, write and basically be me again. I am still not up to my own self again. Since then I did not ride. I fixed my bike (with dads help) and maybe I pluck up the courage to ride again this year but I think I should wait for next year. Rest in peace Pia. You are in good company. Stay strong Kenneth, you are worth it. Carry Pia in your heart and keep on being. Greetings from germany

Breaks my heart seeing this, especially since I went to ride the TET in Norway with my GF this year for the first time. It was also her first time riding offroad. Your videos will serve as a warning to never take anything for granted and to ride slowly even if the road looks good. Also don't beat yourself up over not being able to warn him when you crashed in the ditch. Stay positive, you two!

I had a traumatic crash last December on the Tail of the Dragon in East Tennessee USA. I broke my back in 3 places and had internal bleeding... It took an hour and a half for emergency services to reach me, and then it took 30 more minutes to get me on a back board. Then they put me on a helicopter to expedite my travel to the hospital. I feel for you all so much. I know the helplessness you are feeling. I know the pain you are feeling. I know what thoughts are going through your mind about what you could have done different. None of that matters now. Try and focus on the task at hand and that is to get better. Be there for each other. Support each other. My heart breaks for you both. I pray for quick healing and full recovery. I just came across this video and I had to send you my love and support. Get better and get back out on a motorcycle.... if that is what you want. I will continue to follow up on your videos. Please document everything. That is one thing I regret most.

So sorry for you both, as an adventure rider in Australia riding in the harsh conditions here by that I mean desert riding etc the main rule is to avoid fatigue so to start a ride at 4.00 am and ride all day is a disaster waiting to happen I know ,I’ve been there and had to be airlifted out of the desert ,when you’re tired you are not able to react to situations as quickly , I suppose hindsight is all well and good, I hope Kenneth’s colonoscopy is only temporary, and you can both regroup , my thoughts are with you both be strong and positive,
@RidetheBean
@RidetheBean 3 года назад
Thank you 😊 Yeah you are right. We learned a valuable lesson through all this. Even though we started early, we had a lot of long breaks throughout the day, so we didn't really feel fatigued, but of course being awake and alert for a whole day does take away some focus. Sand is something we don't find a lot of in Norway, so that will be a challenge. Kenneth is doing better today and it looks like he'll be able to make a full recovery, but it will take a long time. If all goes to plan now we'll be able to try. again in spring, about 6 months from now.

Thanks for the detailed story about the crash and really feel for the both of you. I might not be the most inspiring writer but what ever you do, DON'T STOP RIDING! Don't give up on your dream, this is "just" a hick-up in the plan, a delay. Both of you where so looking forward for the adventure that you had in front of you, you felt free, you felt alive, you where so happy and having soooo much fun doing it. Don't you ever forget about that! The world is still here and can be conquered at another more suitable time, but don't give up your dreams. I spent 3 months riding my old worn Transalp across Canada 15 years ago and the first thing I think of when I see motorcycle related content is of that trip. 3 months without any thoughts about work just the planning of where to stop for the next night (and where to dry up... ;) ) , where to find fuel and food. Riding where ever you want (getting stuck saddle deep in a pond created by a beaver), no matter the weather (outrunning lightning and getting flashed by a cop to slow down), lack of fuel (on reserve and the nearest gas station burnt to the ground during the night and 250km to the next one), attending charity rides and meeting super nice people (and watching drunk hillbillies riding around naked in the campground). Surprising yourself and people around you yt doing single lane tracks riding in the woods with a fat bike. Do I have your attention or should I go on... ;) It's an adventure and you just happened to be really unlucky, but the adventure is still there, the trip is still possible (even though Covid-19 is making it slightly harder at the moment) and I believe you would regret it if you don't take the chance to finish the trip when it's physical possible for the both of you to do it. When/If you pass by the northwest part of Skåne (Sweden), hit me up and we'll have a bed for you and a garage for the bikes (with possibility to do maintenance). When it comes to coffee I leave that up to you. Cheers, Mathias
@RidetheBean
@RidetheBean 3 года назад
Thank you 😊 You are right! We can't stop riding. We were so lucky to survive this in relatively ok shape and lucky that we will be able to recover again. We have sacrificed too much to give up now 🙂 So in Spring well be back on the bikes again🏍 In one way I guess it is good we have to postpone given the situation with COVID and closed borders all over Europe at the moment. Hopefully it'll be easier to move around in spring. That sounds like an amazing experience! Riding across Canada must be amazing! So much wilderness and amazing views. It's funny how terrible weather is more bearable on a bike than at any other time. It's kind of part of the experience. And you are usually prepared for it. Those sounds like memories you will never forget! We have already made a lot of memories on the bikes, but we are so excited to make more. The reason we started this in the first place was because it was the answer to a question we asked ourselves two years ago. What dow want to think back to and reminisce on when we are 80 and sit at out cabin overlooking the lake. Do we want to be proud of how good we were at our jobs and that we did what most people do throughout their lives with some vacations here and there or do we want to look back on adventures and experiences we never would have been able to have in a normal 9-5 job. We can always just get back to that life if we want, but now is the time for us to try to experience as much as we can. Even this accident will be turned in to a good memory a year or two from now. We will need about 6 months to recover, but when spring comes we are heading south again. And we will pass through Skåne. We plan to look for some parts of the Swedish TET and also hopefully visit Robert from Nomad Sweden before we cross the bridge over to Denmark. So thank you for the invitation. Don't be surprised if we show up on your doorstep some time next year 😝 If you follow us on Instagram you can see more up to date posts. The videos are a moth or two behind as they take some time to make and we have a lot of other stuff to work on as well. But check our Instagram next spring and send us a DM if you see we are close by 🙂 And well absolutely make some delicious coffee in return for a good chat 😛

Thanks for sharing, Pia. I know from personal experience what you and Kenneth are dealing with. I have recovered physically from a near death motorcycle crash and have struggled with my mental health since my teens. It was 12 months after my crash that I knew I wasn't done with riding. That was three years ago. I'm now retired with my dream touring bike. Motorcycling is a passion that gives me life. At age 65 I feel so lucky to have survived these challenges. I am with you two in spirit. Gord. Kelowna, British Columbia

I've only just found your channel and can I say how sorry I feel for you both. Your adventure was set to be amazing and it already has been but unfortunately in the wrong way. My mum had a colostomy/illiostomy for nearly all her life and at the time was one of the youngest people to have it done (at the time). It barely impacted on her life and no-one ever knew she had it. It will take alot of adapting but being young and healthy before the accident is a good starting point. I look forward to hearing where both your adventures lead you next. Through recovery and beyond
@RidetheBean
@RidetheBean 3 года назад
Yeah it was unfortunate this happened. But since it did we were very lucky it happened where it did and that we are able to learn from it. That must have been very difficult for your mom at first, but I guess you get used to everything eventually. I was very lucky that I did not need a permanent one. After this video was shot I had two more surgeries and they were able to stitch my bowels back together again so when I woke up a few days later I only had a huge cut in my belly. That was a huge relief, because as Pia said in the video, I think I would have fallen down into the darkness again had I woken up and had to live with it permanently. But since they did ut in a colostomy they sewed by bowes together and the passage through my duodenum was very tight, so almost nothing passes through. They say it will expand over time, but I am not able to eat normally. I am starting to be able to eat normal food again but in small doses and with a lot of extra nutrients. All things considered I was very lucky!

Wow! That sounds horrible! I'm glad you survived and managed to get back on the bike 🙂 There may be a silver lining in all this, but I have yet to find it. It turned out that waking up and being in the hospital to heal up was as happy as I would be in 2020. I felt closer to my partner and optimistic for the future at that point. The difficult part was after leaving the hospital when my best friend died and Pia decided to leave me. The accident sucked, but realising I have been living a lie for so long was even worse.

I’m an avid adventure bike rider and run single track and forest service roads one of the things I always carry is a garmin inreach satallite communicator. Also they are expensive, but will save your life. Get a alpinestars airbag vest.Its prevented about 90 percent of any internal injuries and he would have never had a run injury. Kenneth is lucky to have such a brave and cool headed partner such as yourself... I'm sure you will get through this and get back to your adventure again. As regards that sunken river...there was no way you could have seen it with the slight rise in front...it was like riding up to a water bar or crest, but with nothing behind. Who ever is responsible for the land or road had a lot to answer for. To leave a hazard like that with no warning is criminal. The two policemen obviously knew about it and took a safe route to the side. If I was you I would be consulting with a lawyer to see if you have any rights to a claim. All the best. Hope you both get well soon.
