RTI $200 Carcano M91 (B-Grade) WORTH THE RISK? Unboxing Royal Tiger Imports Italian 1891 Long Rifle

Can't believe I'm giving RTI another shot on their M91 Carcano Long Rifles after my first experience. A couple years ago I ordered a Fucile Modello 91 from Royal Tiger Imports and I was super disappointed in the condition of the bore. They recently had a discount on these rifles in "B-Grade" condition so I decided to roll the milsurp dice once more in hopes of a shooter. I have a decent little Italian Military Carcano collection but not having a good shooting 1891 has been bothering me. Hopefully we'll have better luck with this one!!
Thanks for Watching!

Here's what I hate about RTI. Their grading system is based on what they have left. So your B grade could have been an F grade 2 months ago when everything came in. So when the A grades sell out, the B grades become A, and so on. That's why I try my best to pay attention to when they release a new batch and buy asap instead of waiting.

@@boltforward3611 If you are on a PC, you can open up a tab at RTI on the page where they are selling their "M38 Carcano Short Rifle, Cal. 7.35x51 w/ 1 Free Clip" then take your mouse and hover over the tab at the top of your browser and a bubble pops up that says "M38 Carcano Short Rifle C Grade". That leads me to believe they just changed the description from "C Grade" to something else. I could be wrong but that's not the kind of mistake their webpage guy should be making.

Way back in the day, you could buy these things mail order , shipped to your house, they had such little value that if you walked into a gun shop with one ,intent on selling, the owner would buy it from you and remove the bolt, and hand the rest back to you as the bolt was the only thing of value.

I remember in around 2006ish my uncle was selling this bad ass Kar98k Ethiopian model for $99 and everyone was saying that was a little overboard. He had stacks of Mosin M44s, Mosin M1891/30s, Kar98k, M16A1 style AR15s and SKS’ that he got over the years from hot deals. Now I can’t even afford a Kar98k as the average one is $700ish. I just got a Mosin Nagant M1891/30 for $470 and I felt like I stole from the guy in todays gun market lol.

I bought a K98 mauser and a M38 Carcano short rifle from RTI back when they first started selling the Ethiopian firearms and the K98 had a sewer pipe bore and a welded shut floorplate. The Carcano had a decent bore but the lug under the barrel that the front magazine screw threads into was completely stripped out. They have a lot of firearms I would like to have but I wouldn't buy from them again.

Always love a new video! I’ve been waiting for one lately I’ve been rewatching your old ones lol. I just got my C grade hakim and b grade lebel from them. Definitely disappointed that they are calling their lebels B grade (they do note the issues in the desc) but I feel it’s more of a c grade. Happy to have a Lebel at the very least but the wood furniture is smoked, my rear sight is loose, the front sight it broken off, and my extractor is broken which is really hard to find… lots of Ethiopian marking on it too. Your lebel was a much more representable b grade rifle. I haven’t cleaned the bore but the rifling looks good though so that’s a plus

Having lived through the second glory days of surplus in the late 80's and 90's I always enjoy seeing new lots of surplus found. This horde from Ethiopia was pretty interesting with all type of firearms from various nations that had not been on the market in years. I gambled with the M1 carbines when they first hit and while not mad about the purchase , I wasn't exactly thrilled with it either. The descriptions were a bit overestimated in my opinion , but I should have known considering the source. That seems to be the high side of opinion on RTI's conditions and pricing with many people getting what I would consider "junk". Uley for years ahs been able to find some cool stuff , but again his stuff was never highly regarded when it came to conditions described.

Have never bought from RTI, so I can’t speak on them. In the late 90’s I worked at a German gun shop, and were were one of the top importer on military surplus. Don’t think I have ever seen an Italian rifle that had a good bore. You could get mint Swiss rifles, and Swedish arms. I mainly shop Simpson, they are not cheap, yet have never been disappointed. From time to time can find something the LGS has on commission that is interesting.

You would think that shipping companies would have equipment designed to keep parcels from being damaged. It could be done but they just don’t care. Also one layer of cardboard is not adequate. A couple thick layers of bubble wrap would be good protection.

Mark Novak has vids on restoring super gnarly screw heads if you ever feel like giving it a try. It works pretty well. Basically you hold it in a jewelers vise block, pound the mushroomed metal back with a polished ball peen hammer, trace the slot with a hacksaw blade or thin file, and then re-blue it (optional)

@@carteranderson5907 Only thing missing on the rifle was the safety, everything else was there, including the volley sight. Crack in the wrist that had been fixed by some Ethiopian with Brad nails. Bore was excellent (I did the bullet test) with prominent lands and grooves. Only thing that was a pain in the butt was that the rifle had a ton of surface rust throughout all the metal components. I used a a chemical solution to remove all the rust, so that meant no more metal finish. Too my surprise no pitting was present. For a $200 rifle I gave it a 8 out of 10.

Years ago I ordered 3 K98's from Century Arms on my crffl. Around $100 each. The idea was between the 3, I should be able to build one that looked good and was a shooter. I still have it. I refinished the wood. Stripped, blasted and hot blued all the metal. Re crowned the muzzle. Polished all the bolt parts. A real beauty that can do 2MOA. Fun shooter until those 8x57's beat your shoulder up! IMHO this is the way to do it.

So true man, if it was a known good & complete rifle that someone had gone through it would listed for 400-500 more than what RTI is selling it for. RTI sells beat up surplus from a war torn county, they hand select the pristine examples and send the rest out for lottery. The ONLY thing RTI is doing wrong in my opinion is grading the rifles. Either throw them all in the same bucket or make a consistent grading system to separate them.

I've only purchased from them once but I was happy with what I got. Ordered a Carcano carbine about a year ago, labeled as Very good condition for $135, I didn't know what to expect but ended up with a 1941 rifle that had no missing parts, no cracks and a surprisingly decent bore, even had a name carved into the stock which was kinda cool. Shoots great, just wish ammo wasn't a pain to find or overly expensive sometimes.

I kick myself for not picking up a m91 long rifle for 300 that was complete but kind rough looking. Probably would have cleaned up decent but when I went back to the shop it was gone. Only missing the rod, had the handguard. Was a Terni or Roma, WWI date. Oh well. I have a pretty decent m41 that’s a great shooter I got from Springfield Sporters back in the day for 60. It was one of the nastiest looking rifles I ever got, but it was just dirty and full of old hardened cosmoline but after I got it all cleaned up the bluing wasn’t bad at all and the bore even had a bit of shine to it. FAT 41 with an older numbered straight bolt from a m91. Even got a deer with it.

Where do you order them from
@LarryDeSilva64

I bought a Troup Espesiale Carbine made in 1916 from them and the stock was in better condition but the bore was partially shot out. I bought a No4 Mark 1 Enfield from them it had two bullets wedged in the barrel was so bad could not get them out they did send a replacement took them 5 weeks. I get that one it would not even chamber a round needed to use a hone on it to get it to chamber. Their stuff is cheap because it is Junk. The only decent rifle i got from them was an M1 carbine made in 1943 that cost me $1300. I will never buy another rifle from them again.

I rolled the dice and ordered 2 x 1891 Carcano Carbines from them, $149 each, allegedly good to very good condition with an extra magazine each, getting them for my boys for their first shot at restoring an antique weapon, one with wood and not just metal and plastic

@@grandpajoe9851 that is awesome. I have ordered one and paid the extra money for the hand select so I am hoping everything comes in decent. What years did you get and arsenals?

You ordered a B grade rifle for cheap. What did you expect? ive order 4 or 5 times from RTI. I've always been more than happy in 2023 surplus imports are hard to find if you want a collector than pay for hand select

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. RTI is the dumpster of the surplus market.

Go to a gun show or shop ,you can look at it and pick and choose. The convenience of pushing buttons isn't worth it. And trying to find parts is a nightmare. 🪖🪖

@@davidschaadt34601000% Something like this you want to look over it and check before you buy. These RTIs have no duty to make sure you get a completely functional and in good condition. They get old crap cheap, and sell kinda cheap. If they had an ethic, they wouldn't have sold this for 200, unless they would have put some work into it.
