RTX HDR is what I’ve been waiting for. I love that we have full control over hdr and don’t need to rely on game developers doing a good job with hdr. We have it all finally. I think RTX dynamic vibrance is not for HDR. That’s why you don’t see the point of it. I think it’s for SDR content that you aren’t changing to HDR.
Do you visit the nvidia subreddit? There's an interesting thread there with recommended values for rtx hdr mid-gray and contrast depending on the peak brightness of your screen. "RTX HDR - Paper White, Gamma & Reference Settings"
@@Simon_Denmark if you have an iGPU you can plug your secondary and tertiary monitors into that in the meantime and only plug one display into the GPU :)
@@nathanaelniklaus2981 Yeah but that feels a bit unnecessary, I’d rather keep both on GPU. I don’t even know if Ryzen 7000 iGPU is strong enough for 1440 170 Hz. I’ll just use SK or Reshade for HDR until the driver update comes unless I really want to use RTX HDR for some game.
@@Simon_Denmark aha yeah, that i do not know. The 13700k is relatively strong, so it can take one display at 144 Hz 4k and one 165 Hz 1440p without any problems. But yeah, they confirmed that it will work at some point - on Nexus mods there is already a working mod otherwise.
I tried RTX HDR in Elden Ring last night and it looks unbelievably good, colors are so vivid and the bright light from the erdtree in the sky looks incredible. Elden Ring's native HDR is super buggy in my experience and almost never works properly, so being able to use RTX HDR and have it just work is really nice.
@@plasmatvforgaming9648 I cant even try the elden ring native hdr because I can’t seem to fix the bug where the hdr is extremely washed out and dim, I’ve seen people say that switching between full screen and windowed fixes it but no luck on my end, you ever had that issue? I’m just glad rtx hdr exists now so I can just easily use that instead of struggling to get elden rings native hdr working properly.

If you use the "mod" that came out before they released it on drivers you can have multiple monitors. The other one just has to have HDR also. That's why I'm still using the mod version and not the new app.

OVERRATED!? Mate, you're trippin' balls. It was a literal graphical upgrade for every game for me. At least, with a true HDR monitor. QD OLEDs are goated.
To be fair HDR was so random in a lot of use cases and a lot of people had bad HDR screens before so I can understand why people thought it was overrated. We are getting 2 amazing things at once though - tons of great OLED monitor choices and HDR like RTX HDR that makes every game look great (except I’ve heard bad things about RDR2, but that game has crazy hdr implementation). That game aside, seems like we are in the ultimate time for gamers that love beautiful contrast/lighting.
Hi! Love your videos! :) just saw a Reddit post that says that the default colors are -50, so at 0 you are already sprinkling a bit of color! It also said that mid gray value is 22 for the equivalent of 100 paper white and 44 for 200 paper white, and finally +25 contrast is gamma 2.2
Wait - now it looks like with latest release a day ago they might have fixed the gamma now with default settings. We need to wait for more testing, but someone on reddit is claiming the default RTX HDR look much better now.
My issue with RTX HDR is that, in games like RDR2 it looks amazing until it doesn’t. RDR2 with RTX HDR at night is almost pitch black in open darker areas. Then in gunfights at night, there’s a layer of gray wash until the gunplay ends. And, it auto adjusts to the UI elements. When I hold the button to show my mini map for example, the screen gets a layer of gray and auto adjusts back to normal after the UI fades away. It’s unfortunate cuz it made HDR in RDR2 look great, night time is my fav time in the game with the lightning but it being way too dark one second then washed out the next is too annoying. I’ve tried numerous settings, nothing prevents the graywash at least.
RDR2 I think has the weirdest HDR implementation. The paper white setting affects the picture when in other games it only affects like the hud. I think it’s just that game that is done so weird nothing can save it ha.
The reason it doesn't happen is because Rec.2020 is such an expansive color space that it's outright HARD for a game to leverage the sheer neons required. (Neon is actually the most saturated of any color in the visible spectrum, so neon red is the reddest red our eyes can see) Even Cyberpunk with the fancy new gamut setting stays around ~10% Rec.2020 with DCI-P3 and Rec.709 sharing the remaining 90% with Rec.709 having more % in normal scenes. The highest Rec.2020% I saw was 86% under the most extreme circumstances at an in engine 10,000 nits (none of that reshade shenanigans) and HDR10 PQ Saturation setting of 1. I don't think you should pursue saturation though, I've always thought it looks unnatural.
Yeah, never saw the allure of touching saturation either. In this video specifically, the amount of red glow from the swinging fire just looks plain wrong and the center of the fire itself looks completely blown out. Skin tone also looks very unnatural as well.
Ive seen the same, the vibrance settings aren't good. Just washes everything out. I do have some glitches as well, some games work, some don't. But I have never seen a better picture than with this RTX HDR. Star Citizen looks amazing with this. Helldivers 2 as well. I think many developers can just give up adding the in game HDR at this point and go with the RTX HDR. Im on a Ultrawide OLED.

Hey Plasma do you have any thoughts on the Alienware aw3423dwf monitor? That's my current HDR oled monitor and to me it is hands down the most beautiful gaming monitor I have ever had. I am curious though how it would stack up against other monitors with HDR. I thought about getting other TV's but I just don't have the space to have a large TV on my desk.
If you love it, it's great, I'd just recommend a completely dark room to get the best out of it. QDOLED TVs will give you more brightness and HDR impact, but you'd have to go 55' minimum.
@plasmatvforgaming9648 ya, it's a glass screen, no matte finish, so in a bright room it gets pretty washed out. Unfortunately because of space constraints I cannot go any larger than 40 inches.
In terms of balanced performance and visual quality what is your recommendation. Play in high settings and auto hdr or native hdr or play in medium or custom and rtx hdr?

Hello, thank you very much for your videos. I have a question. I use a C1 under W11. Some of my movies or series played with VLC or KODI are often too dark. However, I have deactivated both options with colorcontrol under Windows. I use Filmmaker though. But in film or series sequences that are dark at night or indoors, I have trouble seeing the details. Do you have the same problem?
@@plasmatvforgaming9648 Tone mapping is enabled in filmmaker. Not all films and series are too dark. It's only on some. For example, the last season of Halo. I watched your video to activate Mastering Peak at 10000. I'll see if it makes a difference. I set the brightness to 51. And yes, I've already deactivated TPC and GSR. oled motion is disabled. My C1 TV is calibrated by TV Calibration with Darko. Thank you very much for your help.
My RTX HDR is very glitchy. It doesn’t activate in most games. And is disabled when activated sometimes. It also does not let me adjust the values most of the time. :/
yeah i started paying it over this weekend too. It is socking how awesome it looks with RTX HDR. Although i have issue with frame rate when something heavy comes on screen like a village with people heavy scene or like full on action scene. The frame rate drops from 100 fps to 59 fps and i how fix this is to basically turn off HDR and turn it back on using win+alt+B shortcut to get the frame rate back. I have confirmed that it is RTX HDR issue and not the game issue, i guess i will need to cap the game to like 75 fps or something to see if this happens again. Annoying little thing, hope they fix it.
@@HemantGogia The stutters have been happening to me as well. I get an average of 90-120 fps with drops down to 45 sometimes at 4k with dynamic res disabled. As someone who’s only ever played FFXV I’m still enjoying the game a ton in spite of the stutters. I appreciate you letting me know about the fix. The opening bomb section with mako energy and fire going everywhere was HDR perfection.
Hello Ariel. I have a question. I have used the HDR+ WCG Image Viewer app to check some images from AutoHDR games and I have noticed that a number of them go beyond 800 nits. For example, in a image that I took of Dark Souls Remastered sitting in front of a bonfire the app tells me estimated maxCLL of 1078 nits. I am using the gamma 2.2 ICC profile on the lg c3. Why is it going beyond 800 nits? Its it normal?
Do you set peak brightness in RTX HDR to 800 because your EOTF curve would otherwise clip out? What model of TV is this? The LG G2 is supposed to be 900 I think with these settings, that is why I ask.

I actually playing games in HDR but on full RGB with 8 bit with dithering because I'm on HDMI 2.0. do you guys think I missing a lot ? Should I get 10 bit or it's fine? I have to choose between full RGB 8 bit with dithering or yuv422 10 bit.

Gsync for games with inconsistent performance or great HDR, BFI for everything else. OLED Motion Pro high at 60, 100, 120fps/Hz improves the motion clarity in 2.6x. That's why I use it most of the time, unless I want to enjoy HDR brightness
Plasma also i wanted to ask , how can we get on console the same vibrancy like on rtx hdr ? Is there any way or should stick to 55 color depth for std preset ? It would really great.😄
There's no extra color saturation with RTX HDR. It can just make everything overly saturated without losing too much color distinction. Some HDR games give you a saturation slider you can use to get the same effect. This RTX HDR just does a great job with these sliders
my issue with rtx hdr is the need to have one monitor to enable it. I have 2 monitors and have to go to display settings to disconnect monitor 2 to enable it, pretty annoying.
the thing that pisses me off about HDR is that it seems like devs just don't know how to make a game with good HDR. Majority of the games that I have played that have "HDR compatibility" are pretty garbage looking. I gotta use lilliums hdr fix with the lilliums brightness histogram to make sure that my black levels are reaching true blacks. The only game that immediately pops into my memory for having great HDR black levels is FF7 Intergrade. IMO the menus (in ff7 remake/intergrade) look kind of washed out but the game itself looks amazing with HDR and it doesn't need any sort of mods. I can't think of a single video game besides FF7 remake/intergrade that looked good with HDR without needing Lilliums reshade.

My rtx hdr in game settings in the overlay are broken. The HDR clearly works, but I can only adjust the settings in the nvidia app. In game, its greyed out and asks me to reset the game. Reseting does nothing. I hope this bug ends soon

No, I set it to 540 for BFI because I had to reduce the RTX HDR brightness slider to 400 to prevent clipping the highlights with Dynamic tone Mapping, that doesn't always happen.
@@plasmatvforgaming9648 cheers. Of course that is the first thing I tried as it tells you to do that. When I restart the native HDR is off as Id expect but so is rtx HDR I bring up the Nvidia menu in-game it's "activate" in the list of filters but all the sliders are greyed out and it still says disable the games HDR and restart.
Iv had other issues/glitches tbh. For some games (alien isolation) it just won't turn on. Other times it takes multiple attempts to get it to work and for some reason if I use big picture to start a game it often doesn't work and stops it flat out not working for a bit. So it seems it's still a bit buggy ATM hopefully Nvidia sort out all these bugs
You are comparing sRGB color to a BT 2020 space anyway so no way it can clip even at max. Either it is become unrealistic or the TV itself cannot display at such color.
RTX HDR is buggy as hell!! Turn off in global settings and activate in special games dont work in some cases! In one game its fine, activated InGame and OFF in global settings and in other games the global setting is ON. The picture in Dead Island 2 is washed out with actived RTX HDR in global settinng. The nvidia App should be fixed!!!
@@plasmatvforgaming9648 You dont unterstand. RTX HDR settings override native HDR settings in Dead Island 2, when aktived in another Game. You can set RTX HDR in global setting OFF but it will be aktived when u set it on in Remnat 2 for example. Thats the fukking bug in RTX HDR driver settings. Its anoying :(
Is there any TUTORIAL that you have made from ZERO TO THE MOST IMPRESSIVE IMAGE ON PC? With everything you have taught so far ? I will give you an example if I know your channel today has numerous videos with small fragments of settings that I should apply both in the Nvidia Driver and the LG C1 TV that would have to watching more than 100 videos of yours to get all this knowledge, there is no way for you to synthesize all this on a page or in a tutorial only, example you just formatted your PC and purchased an OLED C1 TV, which should start doing, first step, install the driver, access the menu through this software, install the, remove these unnecessary resolutions, adjust this driver option, adjust such application from windows 10 or 11, etc.. now on the TV you will put this calibration to the STANDARD mode or VIVED etc. and to get the best HDR do it etc, There is no tutorial that covers much of what you have taught so far , i'm lost here not knowing which video I should follow to get the same tweak that your TV has today and your PC.
Only thing better might be microLED someday. But we seem a ways off. OLED is the pinnacle of gaming monitor so far. Even though we haven’t got the 1000hz monitors with 1000fps gameplay yet for perfect motion clarity. : )
Increasing the colour saturation will ruin accuracy and the devs intent (although some devs obviously make very poor decisions). You should always be aiming for accuracy. You can't beat how things look on a fully calibrated and highly accurate display. What is even the point in getting a good TV/monitor only to have everything look completely inaccurate. This is my problem with the default RTX HDR setting, because just enabling it will slightly increase the colour saturation when i don't want that.
If you're looking for accuracy, don't use RTX HDR, use the developers HDR or SDR. In this case, the Native HDR has black level raised, and fixing it will increase the color saturation.
If your using it for non HDR games you are already stepping outside of developers intent but the colour Saturation slider can be turned down if you want more accurate colour
