I was not happy at all with my new LG OLED coming from a used $25 Plasma TV. Instead of returning the TV, I decided to learn how to get the best out of it and share that with everyone. I'm particularly interested in motion clarity and display technologies for gaming waiting for 8k 1000Hz 10000 nits

Ariel, hello man. Could you help me please? I stay a year without see movies on my streaming APPs. I tried yesterday and the image is very very dark man. DV and HDR movies. Never was like that. My both Oled TVs with this issue, c1 55" and c2 42". Every image settings don't matter. I notice black level is greyed. Tone mapping settings is not there also. That Precision DV setting is greyed too. Do you know what is going on? Some bugged LG firmware? Thank you so much in advance man. God bless you.

You have to get your hands on the LG C6, it was released just as 3D was about to die so it never took off. It has the same 3D features as your TV, simulating 3D for all content and the split screen feature which gives each player a full view (Sony calls it SimulView). But being a 4k OLED, 3D will look much sharper and the infinite contrast gives an even greater sense of depth. Since the C6 also uses passive 3D, the brightness drop is quite low compared to 3D TVs that use active 3D glasses. I had one but the burn-in eventually got too severe for it to be usable. My ideal TV right now would be a QD OLED with 120Hz BFI and 3D, but I'd gladly choose an MLA WOLED with 120Hz BFI and 3D over current QD OLED TV's.

passive 3D tv's had a screen with multiple polarized layers that could be turned on and off. And on top of that, the cpu splitted the left and right video in slices. Active 3D tv's solved this issue by sommunicating with glasses to turn left and righ lenses off, but it needs a really low latency for multiple change/milisec. Basically you can do something like it with arduino and an old active 3d glass.

For passive 3D you need to match the pixel exactly where it should be as for 3D you get half the vertical resolution. You'll see some sort of black lines with these glasses Also the tecnology died because it was bad. Active 3D flickers. Crazy headaches on a lot of people because eye strain. The passive one works better but you lose resolution and get some black lines on the screen. Both techs you lose bright too. Stereoscopic 3D isn't that good on small TVs. And by small I mean 55". You need way larger screen for your brain to not break the effect. Also why VR is working but I think VR is too low res to be good for now.

Nostalgy...as a former Nvidia 3D vision 2 owner, what a perfect and the best way was to play any game! Immersion was reaching your bones and beyond! (for example Batman games, Tomb raider, Mad Max and many many more thanks to Helifax and the rest of great modders with their3d profiles). Great era of gaming back then. About TVs there was a time that there were very few models from many like Sony (as you say) LG and few more that had that passive 3d which was not good as Nvidia's active ones but still BETTER experience tha NOT having it at all. VR "profit" is the reason for letting 3D on TVs and monitor RIP.. (TBH VR is a not so great experience and as it is nowdays is mediocre comparing to real 3D of that old gaming era). I wish too for "3D is coming back" but we will see.. Also why Nvidia abandoned it's great 3D Vision? Anyone remembers? Their gpus wasnt' strong enough for getting needed double fps? Previous years? They have DLSS+FG so...why? Only RT matters? Today, yeah only AI matters..best profit ever. Or even due to drivers' coding complexity and compatibility so they couldn't have an extra departement for 3D only (Game Devs too). A miracle would only give us a 3D Vision 3 kit I guess.

@@plasmatvforgaming9648 It has hard work nowdays, many have a second (shadow) Win partition with older gpu drivers like 452.06 ones just to be able to play beyond dx9 games, which sucks for obvious reasons. Only few people are trying to get dx12 compatible with active 3D but it's too difficult and takes too much time for shader editing/writting. Best solution would be "NVidia bring us our 3D back!" Ideal would be what you said, one universal 3D simulator for all users.

Okay so I looked into your problem for you here. You have your 3d display mode set to checkerboard 3d that model Sony kdl-47w802a does not support that format you need to set the format on the Superdepth3D reshade settings to something like side by side or top and bottom (sometimes called over under) then you should be able to press the 3d button on your remote a certain amount of times and your TV will take that and stretch it to 3D. your tv polarizes two different frames one on the vertical plane and the other on the horizontal. the light from each fame riches the correct eye because the glassed lets vertically polarized light pass from one lens and horizontal from the other. if reshade does not have a way to say to the tv what to do with each frame and the tv does not have the capability to polarize the light it can not work.
@aggies11
@aggies11 4 часа назад
This here. The "3d data" for lack of a better term, is not actually contained in a single frame, or visible all at once on the screen. It's not like old school Red/Blue 3d for example, where the information for both eyes are combined onto a single screen at both times. As the OP says, the 3d effect of this is actually two separate frames being shown on the TV at once, and the TV has specical tech to allow it to show two separate frames at the same time. Note this is not the same as combining 3d data into a single combined frame. All reshade can do is combine the data into a single frame. Much like with Side by Side 3d movies, the tv needs a way to be told that the content it is receiving is 3d, and for it to display every second frame ontop of the first frame in this special way. I'm not sure if there is actually a way for that to happen.

It was called nvidia 3d vision. It died because of a few reasons: 1 it had to be integrated by devs for best results. 2 it required rendering the same frame twice from different perspectives so it cut the fps by half. 3 it only worked on nvidia. 4 you had to use bulky clunky glasses. 5 it was expensive. 6. Reduces resolution by half. And I can't remember if you had to use a special screen or not, I think you did. Anyway this explains why. And if you already have glasses then obviously it's also a problem, not all glasses were compatible, and a lot of gamers have glasses. I personally bought a really fancy 10k$ sony tv with 3d, used it like once to show my friends and never used it again. If I remember correctly it cuts the brightness in half or has some other artifacts, and you had to get special content recorded just for it for good results. It's just not worth it if you ask me. What is worth it is vr, but that has even higher requirements for sickness, gpu, devs, etc. Forget it, use good high end pc vr glasses with mods to convert 2d games to 3d, that's like 100x better than 3d.

Point 6 isnt true. It did not reduce resolution by half, thats only true for screens with polarizing passive glasses. I loved Nvidia 3D-Vision, but it was more and more difficult to make it work with newer games. Shutter glasses -> halves the refresh rate but at full resolution. Polarizing glasses -> Half the resolution but no reduced refreshrate.

stable 60 fps (per eye) was great for Vision 2, sure good brithness due to shutter glasses (300-400 nits and you were perfect even on darkest scenes) was a must have. VR mods for 2d to 3d is good (actually it's better vs vanilla VR) but not the same, I mean if you've got the real experience of both of them at their highest quality using really high end PCs.

I believe... now i could be wrong... but i believe that the screens with this feature have the polarized layer flipped 180 degrees for EACH horizontal line of pixels. So basically it split the screens pixel count in half. Where one half of the horizontal image is rendered half an inch to the right and the other half of the horizontal image is rendered half an inch to the left. Then because each horizontal line of pixels has a 180 degree flipped polarized layer, AND the glasses, having each eyes polarized lens flipped 180 degrees from each other. It effectively makes each of your eyes see ONLY the image that it needs to see. So left eye only sees left pixels and right eye only sees right pixels. EDIT It should work if you turn off the monitors feature... and turn on the reshade one... if it doesn't work flip the glasses over

My best 3d experiences were with Dark Souls 1 (PC) and Mass Effect 2 (PC) back in 2012 (using Tridef 3d software, and Samsung Syncmaster 120hz 3d Monitor with active 3d Glasses). There was some minor jank with UI elements (and target reticle for combat), but the 3d effect really enhanced the Dialogue scenes in mass effect 2 (character models in those look so much better than ME3 or Andromeda). It was amazing, left stuff like Avatar (or the Hobbit) 3d with passive glasses at the movie theatre in the dirt. With Dark Souls 1 it made all of the objects and scenery in the background look so much more detailed and I would often take the time to just study/examine them (kinda like looking into a fish tank at times, where it felt like the stuff behind the glass was really there). Uncharted 3 on Playstation 3 actually had a really good 3d implementation as well (though felt a little bit more motion sickness inducing compared to the lower framerate). Wish 3d hadnt (mostly) died out, and glad to hear from you it is coming back. Its a good middle ground for those of us with glasses who dont want to wear a VR headset for long periods of time.

Aside from the games not integrating 3d software for use with tvs. I think it’s because it was pushed and marketed towards movie watchers, who’d rather not go out of their way for glasses, gamers already wear headphones to play video games and if it was marketed towards them I feel they wouldn’t mind wearing glasses for the 3d result. I’d love to see it come back, I’m curious though how motion clarity will be on them.

By the way, wouldn't it be better (in addition) to use ColorControl to customize your HDR Calibrated Profile and create a new one based on the monitor's peak luminance and gamma ramp 2.2 or 2.4 and use that as well? Simply put long ago you had reviews with this app and isn't it already more up to date than this ready made MHC2 ICC profile?

My Sony 3D LCD TV is one of the active 3D ones so I get a full 1080p frame per eye, but it doesn't have the impulse backlight strobing, just a global strobe. Still very good quality and also supports the simulated 3D but I haven't really used the 3D in a long time

This one doesn't allow strobing and 3d in game mode

3D died because of a few reasons 1) First gen 3D wasn't great 2) It got better but they didn't come with the glasses and they were sold separately for a high price. Because people already had a negative reception of 3D paying $60 for glasses seemed pointless 3) They started giving the glasses out for free towards the end but it was too late. 3D added cost to the display that barley anyone cared about so they got rid of it to save money So basically; greed killed it.

That's so sad. Hopefully, it comes back with glass free tech

@@plasmatvforgaming9648 it will eventually come back again as have been historically. The next iteration for sure will be something like lightweight VR glasses like the meta rayban that will recieve stream directly to them for each player from the TV/console/PC with the power of the encoders and decoders we have right now. I doubt we will back to the classic way of doing 3d panels with sophisticated tech on them and using special active glasses be cause of costs for TV manufacturers, but VR glasses could be useful for a lot more than just 3d so it's more justified it's price tag.

I have definitely dabbled into applying 3D conversion on my Panasonic EX780 (EX750 in the US). While nowhere near as good as bespoke 3D settings such as those found on Nvidia 3D Vision, I think it can work fairly well with games that have somewhat a predictable camera (side-by-side fighting games are a good example, or over-the-shoulder games, even something like GTA). My TV is active-3D, which has its downsides, but technically the strobing glasses should improve motion clarity somewhat compared to passive. It is worth investigating if you can get it to work with HelixMod, this is the absolute standard for stereoscopic PC gaming.

Amen! I'm glad 3D is coming back too :) And the TV Variant not just the VR variant :) I don't know enough about reshade to say what your doing wrong, but I do know that what you are attempting to do with SBS should work if you get things setup properly. I'de recommend you look into Geo11 as well as reshade. For reshade I believe you need to use SuperDepth3D but I've never personally used it.

@@plasmatvforgaming9648 I only have the LG c1 OLED ;) which doesn't allow for any type of side-by-side 3D or anything so I can't use it with my TV. I think it's possible to get 3d vision working with the LG c1 using frame sequential output but you need hacked drivers, and a 20 series GPU or lower. I only have a 30 series nvidia GPU so I can't test it.

its a shame that oled monitors are so expensive in comparison to the tv´s... i love good screen quality in gaming, but spending around 1000 euros for a tv... i dont know... i have an lg 550w 4k IPS, and i got to say, the image is, altough its an IPS, just glorious... nice colors, nice contrast, and the blur is okay, it could be worse, the panel is the same that lg has in their higher priced monitors too (600 to 800 euros, the difference is they have usb and other stuff that you dont need, the image quality is the same) this monitor costs 219 euros... i would spend 400 500 euros for an oled monitor, but not 1000 euros O.o
