Thank you for posting all of these. I’ve only known about rubber guard for 2 months and was driven crazy about how its not more popular (internet/mma). I’m glad that it’s getting closer thanks to you. Maybe a stretches for rubber guard video next?

I have an entire set on the rubber guard at BJJ Fanatics. And it opens with a section dedicated to stretching. bjjfanatics.com/products/rubber-guard-the-meathook-by-brandon-mccaghren

The grip on his free arm/wrist reminds me of a video dean lister made when setting up a triangle from closed guard where he grips the inside of his opponent’s wrist rather than the outside so he can throw it out of the way to get past the arm and over the shoulder. So instead of moving his leg around opponent’s arm, he moves his opponents’s arm around his leg.

This is a great system if you aren't old and inflexible. I tried to do it complete with stretching, but my knees and hips just won't bend that way.

I feel like that hip angle right in the beginning is also crucial for knee health. I'm just started training 3 months ago and not at a 10p gym but was toying around with this yesterday but since I didn't have the right hip angle it made it hard to get good pressure on his head to break his posture. I went to an omaplata from there but I'd much prefer the triangle hehe so will definitely try this out. Sorta off topic but I feel like 10p gyms seem to have a great way of structuring their curriculums. We have a covid schedule right now where all the advanced people and beginners are clustered together and I'm learning only a limited amount of stuff. We're doing the typical thing of warming up, drill some techniques and transitions and then that's the 1hour done and after that it's just live rolling (which is fun but I feel like I'm having to assemble a lot on my own through instructionals)

Your spot on about the angle. That’s something that should be emphasized in all of your rubber guard play.

Is it considered “disrespectful” to play the rubber guard when attending a traditional “gracie” jiujitsu gym? I feel like I get alot of stares when i play it the few times I’ve gone

You do you, if they can't handle it then they can look up tutorials on how to shut it down or ask you after the roll.
