Excellent excellent excellent video!!! “Thank U” I’m a 71 yo female who has never done anything plumbing related. My under kitchen sink area has sprung a leak. I don’t have $ to hire a plumber! I was taking it all apart, bought the pipes & fittings I’ll need but broke the pipe that comes out of the floor & into a larger fitting. I just bought a fitting like the one in ur video but didn’t know if I needed goop or tape to repair it. It didn’t come with any instructions lol so thanks again!!

Butt-saving information! Excellently presented too. I didn't get a new kitcgen sink but I have a galvanized 1-1/2" nipple completely holed thru on the bottom by rust & corrosion just outside the hub. Getting it out was a battle but worse was how much of the threads had become one with the hub threads. Like there were NO fenale THREADS left in the bottom of the hub fitting. Thank u for the perfect solution!

Nice video and good demonstration. But what I find these rubber couplings useful for is to make permanently accessible section of drain pipe which can be removed at will by just loosening the rubber coupling. There are troublesome section of pipe where it tends to clog badly and very hard to reach with snake, then having easy, direct access to that section of pipe solves lots of problems.

would a 6 inch flex hose be long enough to heat up get a coupler in between 2 hard pipes that have no flex?? I currently have a rubber boot like your showing with clamps in between two hard pipes. Not sure if it will hold it's on a hot tub plumbing under high pressure

Can you use a rubber coupling in a pond? I need to go from a 1 1/2 barb on a 2600 GPH pump to a piece of same size DWV PVC Pipe that goes to the filter. Same at the pond filter, to bridge across a small gap between same size PVC. No problems with the coupling sliding on smooth PVC. I need to be able to easily disconnect at each end for maintenance.

Thanks Sir, that was very helpful. Will certainly look out for one of those connectors. Was never 💯 certain about connecting over a hub , but it appears that that is precisely what those connectors are made for, situations just how you explain it , and the exact situation I was in dealing with a sink drain pipe connection, thanks again, just out of curiosity, are you a licensed plumber, and or do you have any information about CSST pipe tubing , I am interested in changing over from black pipes to CSST , but am not sure If I can use the same exact size of the pipe diameter that is in current use??
@PlumbingPartsPro
@PlumbingPartsPro 2 года назад
Yes, CSST works well however you have to strap it pretty well or it looks like a sloppy job. Also make sure you use the "Flash Shield" it's the BLACK CSST. This version is bonded and safer. There have been some lighting strikes and attacks the yellow an puts pinholes in the yellow. The sizing is extremely close as far as the BTU load. If your not adding a fixture the same sizing should be fine

But what about a tub to shower MOD? Going from 1.5 to 2 inch drain. All that is left is a .75 to 1 inch nub on the main drain line to connect to. Can you use this rubber coupling to transition to the 2 inch drain line from the leftover nub without having to chop out the main drain tee and install a new one with a 2 inch to connect to?

Would adding sealant/dope reduce the likelihood of leaks or improve the long term reliability of mechanical coupling?
@rickduque5799
@rickduque5799 7 месяцев назад
I just used one of these to connect to a brass kitchen drain pipe going into the floor. When i slid the rubber boot over the brass, I could see that there was a tiny gap in the outside diameter of brass where it met the rubber. I put a smooth bead of silicone and used my finger to fill the gap and angle it downward to promote good flow past the joint. Probably not necessary, but it won't hurt.

@PlumbingPartsPro
@PlumbingPartsPro 2 года назад
This should work in most plumbing drainage applications, however check with you local building code official. I have had some inspectors approve items in one city and an inspector in a city 3 miles away fail something. This is an item usually used in a repair application not new construction so an inspection is typically not needed.

@@PlumbingPartsPro Got it. Have you used a Fernco to connect drain pipes (go from PVC from tailpipe and trap to ABS drain pipe) under bathroom sinks. I ask because I have ABS drain pipe and have to replace the vanity and it's hard finding ABS parts. I will be selling the house.
@PlumbingPartsPro
@PlumbingPartsPro 2 года назад
Yes, ABS has been more difficult to find. This will fit over ABS hubs just fine but will only reduce to a pipe size. So an 1 1/2 hub with a fitting pvc trap adapter would probably work nicely

@@PlumbingPartsPro Sorry. I may not have been clear with my question. The pvc and abs pipes have no hubs, just straight pipe that needs to be joined to complete the drain connection under the bathroom sink. It is my understanding that PVC and ABS can only be joined via mechanical joints. Thoughts on using the fernco to join the different pipes. Will this have an affect on selling the house? Thanks

I have a question. I am in the process of redoing a roman tub installation. The piping job was badly done, none of the connectors were cemented, causing water to seep out the plumbing and causing wood rott to the wood structure the tub was connected to. The issue I am having is the main drain line that connects to the tub drain needs to be at an angle, will these rubber connectors work to get the neccessary bend for the down drain line without having any leaks at the tub drain connecting point. The tub was raised above the floor, which makes the main drain line come up at an angle. I feel that a 20 maybe 30 degree angle is what I need for the down drain line to make secure connection.
@PlumbingPartsPro
@PlumbingPartsPro Год назад
I don't think I can get a 20 degree flex out of these

As a Pro I'm feeling resistant to use a coupling that goes over the hub. Feels like cheating. There has been scenarios where I definetly would use this when there's absolutely no practical way to remove the fitting and install new.
@PlumbingPartsPro
@PlumbingPartsPro 9 месяцев назад
I agree. I would say this is an almost last resort. works well in situations where pvc has been sawed of under a sink and a Ram Bit saw is unavailable to cut the old pipe out you can place this over the hub.
