Exploring kinetic and potential energy with a Rube Goldberg Machine.
Watch as my grandma, my mom and my brother and I explore chain reactions. It took us over a hundred tries and was probably one of the most frustrating things in my life, but it Worked!
You may ask why i am wearing a garbage bag and it's because it's supposed to look like a Hawaiian skirt.
(my grandma said she would pay me $50 if I wore it)
Steps: It's starts with pendulum which swings and knocks a card out of place letting gumballs fall down the ramp. The gumballs then hit a deck of cards which proceeds to knocking down a hole bunch of card decks like dominos. (we had one of the deck of cards attached to string with a single card on the other side, creating a dam which keeps the rice in the bowl. ) When the deck of cards is knocked off the piano it tugs on the string, releasing the card. When the card gets released the rice falls onto a spinning mill powered by the falling rice. The mill which has a string attached to it then turns. In effect, it ends up pulling on the string just enough to knock off a gate, (the gate is made out of a card) which then allows a golf ball to roll down a wooden ramp into a cup. The cup is attached to a tube with marbles in it by fishing line. When the golf ball hits the cup it tugs on the line which pulls the tube forward releasing marbles everywhere. As the tube falls it releases a fishing line.(which was held underneath the tube) IT then releases the tension, dropping a weight with a knife attached to it down a slanted fishing line. The knife then punctures a balloon filled with vinegar. The balloon pops and the vinegar flows down into a tray that filters the vinegar into a straw which leads into our homemade volcano (the volcano already has red colored baking soda in it). It then finishes with a nice little chemical reaction to top off our Rube Goldberg Machine!!!!
