Awesome, we practically lived there in the 80's and 90's, been through on an xr600, xl600 and xr650l. Never tried on a smaller bike but it's probably more enjoyable. I hate being short up there, the ground is never where it's supposed to be until you're laying down.
thanks for posting. I have ridden this trail so many many times on a lot of different bikes. I'm going to tell you and try not to laugh. the best bike to ride the Rubicon on is an XR250. no kidding! i have ridden big bore 2 strokes, and 4 strokes of all types. even a dual sport. but the XR250 was the perfect size bike. smooth power and not too much power. very plush suspension and a comfortable seat. If you have an opportunity to ride it on an XR250 try it. you will love it.
Thank you for posting this! I have always wanted to ride this but have aged-out at 68, but at least your video lets me pretend. I started it on my EXC last fall but turned around, thinking to go back with my 300. But it looks too relentless even for the 300. Really impressive ride and fitness.
There's a few spots if you don't pick the right line you'll be pushing up it. It's a challenge for sure! I'd say give it a shot with your 300 and see how far you can make it in. The big rock slap isn't far and it's fun to ride on.
At the beginning of this video I was thinking that I need to do this trail on my DR 650 someday? 5 minutes into this video, I realized that I should take my Beta 390 instead!!!
Did that ride once over 20 years ago on my drz400s. Round trip dual sport ride from grass valley, through the Rubicon and back. So much fun! Drz took some hits. Broken water pump cover, good thing I carry quick steel. Haven't been back, would like to just don't want to do it alone. Sucks to be a loner sometimes.
THIS is exactly what I was looking for! We rode Loon to Tahoe round trip at least twice a year in the 80’s and I wanted a recent bike video to review before we do it again in September. 👍👍
Live nearby, been obsessed with trail ride videos the past few weeks. My Ultra Classic wouldn’t last out of the parking lot on most trails, but I can dream. I once took a 39’ motor home down that damn road looking for a place to turn around or boondock. Was hilarious that ‘92 Class A plenty of power and didn’t get stuck at the entrance to the Rubicon. Wish I still had it, the Jeep, or the ATV’s. Now though I want an adventure bike for the BDR.
yeah, I never understood that, some dork in a jeep actually said to me, "get outa here, this ain't no place for a bike"🤣🤣🤣🤣 I smoked him through there on an xr600
@@danno02 yes let’s do it. Let me know when you’re available. Maybe we can get Dean to join us if he still rides? I text him when we went to Downieville in October and never heard back.
Getting over surgery so me and my toad dog can travel from Arkansas and do the con. On our bikes. Been planning for this for years.thanks for the video.
Only good thing about so many rocks is it cuts down on dust but they are hard on the body, what kind of headsets are you using, they seem to work pretty good.
I always feel bad when I see bikes out there. Beatsthe crap out of people. Waited 30 minutes for a couple dudes going up whalebone. Terrible tire choices.
