In the actual game, that is what that was.

This game has three main characters and players can play each story arc in any order. This theme particular is generic boss theme when you're playing Surlent the archaeologist as a main. And yes, you guessed it. The antagonists in this game do something about world destruction in every 4000 years.

yeah the theme has a final fantasy mystic quest vibe to it probably because Ryuji Sasai was the composer of this game who also worked on FFMQ in fact the whole development team did both games, which is why i gave this game a fan title Final Fantasy Mystic Quest II: The Treasure of Rudra

"one more hurdle..." but it's never that simple, for a man of sadness and reject, the worlds still surprise him with how low they'll go. with what before him lays what once was, his beacon of light and what he's traveled so far for, be still and cold. was it his fault? was he too late? too slow, or was he ever actually moving? was it this place? these things? whose fault is it?... through perils and ordeals, unknown realms that drain sanity. to feel like he was some other for a time, or were they him?... a journey this far, only to end here... no. one more, truly only one. the face of the *thing* that began this all, and took everything from him, slowly. the creature rises to pose as a challenge to him, and will be his greatest yet. however, it's taken all he had, he's at his most powerful. for there's no greater force, threat, enemy, no *thing* more dangerous than one who has nothing left to lose. this creature will go down, and death is not an option anymore.

@@TheRealSuperKirby . It plays when boss comes in Surlent's chapter, the guy with the blue hair in the cover. This is his overworld theme remixed in boss theme, the other heroes also have that feature.

I played most of it several years ago, it's a pretty sick JRPG with the unique mechanic of being able to create Mantra (magic) by 'scribing' it, aka writing it yourself. There are many words for different spells, some basic ones being 'Lef' (Cure) or 'Teo' (Wind), which written down by themselves are just weak versions of those elements. There are however many pre- and suffixes you can add to those words to make stronger spells. For example, adding 'o' to the beginning and 'rex' to the end of 'Teo' will turn it into 'Oteorex', which consumes more MP but is stronger and multi-targets instead of single-targeting. You learn these magic words as well as pre- and suffixes naturally while playing by talking to people or observing the spells enemies cast which is super cool. The game is honestly worth checking out for this system alone if you're interested in JRPGs, but you will need to grab the translation patch unless you know Japanese. And be aware that this game does get quite repetitive, which is why I didn't end up finishing it. But I'm still glad I played it because this main mechanic is honestly super cool and pretty ambitious for an SNES game. Also the soundtrack honest to god slaps, this is one of my all-time favourite boss themes. My face lit right up when I heard this in the Vinesauce hack, just because I was really happy that 1) a great, obscure game saw some representation and 2) because more people are able to hear this banger.
