I had a homemade copy of the Harold Arlen PBS tribute and I wore it out. I got the CD of the music but it’s not the same ☹️ I haven’t been able to find it anywhere 😩
Sorry, can't help you with that one. I was lucky enough to caught it on TV here a couple of years back. I don't know if a DVD was made, I can only find music CD on Amazon. Sorry!
Yes, it's an "old" Harold Arlen song, and a terrific one at that, but let's not forget the lyricist, Johnny Mercer (who wrote the lyrics to "Moon River," among many, many others!)
Okay, so I do like the song and Rufus' singing it, but I also scratched my head about those subtitles. But using 'enega' and 'pot,' I checked out the Wiktionary and I'm pretty sure that it's Slovene, and that's pretty neat.
You don't have the slightest idea who Rufus is, don't you? You don't like this. Ok, your problem. But there is never anything fake about Rufus. And to call him not a musician is like calling Van Gogh not a painter.
Impressive piano playing and two excellent songs to sing back to back; love the song but can't say I'd vote for this rendition as my favorite; tempo drags too badly and lost track of the melody at spots.
OMG! flat, affectless crooning? fake world-weariness? not a musician?? not a real singer??? what are you talking about? I know Rufus Wainwright has a very special voice and not everyone likes him and that's OK, but really, I can't believe we both saw the same video!
This is horrible beyond belief. I don't believe a second of this guy's flat, affectless crooning. Let's do world-weary with a fake world-weariness, shall we? I believe Rufus might feel this song. But he's not a musician, and can't transmit its essence. Not a lot of recordings of this great, ambiguous and powerfully nuanced song. But by all means listen to Barbara Cook's rendition. Or for a different take altogether, Eileen Farrell's. Real singers, both of them.
