Hey there..probably a bunch of people that said this.. clean your rifle :) also, 'target' ammo typically runs at about 1050 fps. Everything else you used in the video except the stingers runs btw 1250 and 1280 fps. Stingers run at 1600 ish fps. This is why your groups are all shooting high except for the Norma. Want some ammo acccuracy? Try and find some Aguila 40gr copper plated "super extra" ammo after you get things cleaned. I have a bunch of .22.s bolt/lever/semi-auto. I have used everything you demonstrated in this video except the norma. Aguila out performs all of these in all of my .22 LR firearms, especially my CZ's. Aguila is my goto brand..period. The low velocity of the Norma, in a dirty 10/22 is sure to lead to FTE issues. Good luck, and keep on making enjoyable vids.
so so happy to see shooting at 100 yards thank you. when I was a wee girl say around 10 or 11. I use to shoot my Dad's 22. killed many jack rabbets. when I was in my teens I moved up to ground squirrels with same 22. I just love the 22. My Dad has long left this life and I got His 22.
At the time of this comment, I am 14. I’ve been shooting guns since I was around 8. The first shotgun I’ve ever shot was a Winchester 37 16 gauge. It was my PawPaw’s first shotgun and my dad’s. First shot I took with it, it knocked me into the chair behind me.
@@haydeng.957 I am so happy for you. I think I was 17 when I shot my first shotgun and it was a 410. It also was my Dad’s. I don’t know what happened to that gun. Which I had it now as well.
WTW, clean the gun. Perhaps scrub the bore of possible leading with some copper chore boy wrapped around a .17 Cal brush. Take that threaded thingymabopper off the muzzle, rinse and repeat. You may have surprising results. Also, any jammed rounds could deform the bullet profile🤷♂️
Agreed. Especially after shooting rounds like the Remington golden bullets. All of that gold-colored jacket spackles the barrel with tiny gold flakes and just continues to build up along with all the other lead, carbon, copper, and other crap that collects in the chamber/barrel after a ton of shooting.
very good point. i respect who, very smart young guy and like his vids, but this is the second vid of his ive seen where he said he didnt clean the gun, ever. to me, this seems contradictory to just about everything else he says
@@jmkhenka There can be a sweet spot between 50 and 300 rounds, called Relative Equilibrium with my .300 win mag. Once the accuracy becomes erratic, its time for a thorough cleaning.
@@prone_wolf8871 But what are your groups like? Also, what kind of ammunition do you use? Every firearm that I have has its own personality. Even 2 of the same make and model.
I wont personally own a 22 rifle that wont perform when dirty. Sorry but the ammo is far from clean shooting and im not cleaning a plinking rifle every 20 rounds.
@@UserFormelyKnownAs_hjkh I agree, I don’t clean mine often but 10 years is something else lol. Considering some say to clean and some say not, this seems like a great chance to see if if there’s any truth to the clean vs not clean camps.
You definitely need to clean that rifle. My remington nylon 66 from the 60s groups quarter size groups at 100 yards with alot of different ammo. Clean that thang....lol
Standard velocity Aguila rivals expensive match ammo in all of my accurate .22's except my CZ 452 ., but it's close to Eley match . High velocity copper coated ammo is not that accurate .
Good Evening all !! And I’m not only glad to see WTW tonight , but also WTW putting in muffs on EVEN WITH JUST .22 , I hear a lot of guys say ( IT JUST .22 ). But my rebuttals is. YOU ONLY GET 1 SET OF EARS !! NICE VID WTW
Let me give you some truths? I am 82 years of age! I've shot guns for 78 years without ear protection and still have good hearing for my age. I'm not giving any advice but I am saying that there is no magic bullet. Different people react to the same things in different ways.
10 YEARS?!!!! My eye is twitching. Clean your guns, man. Im OCD about it. To be fair......the Army did it to me. But still. Clean your guns. Love your videos btw.
Prefer: 1) No wind 2) Cleaned rifle 3) Same weight bullets My .22"s print a big difference between 40 grainers (my favorite) & 36 grainers. CCI & Aguila make so many different bullets in .22 caliber...Maybe a fun test would be shooting ALL of their respective ammos from the same rifle at 100 yards? We DO appreciate all that you do. Your public loves you brother.
Besides cleaning your rifle, I think you should also move it a little further on the rest, so that the barrel doesn’t touch the rest, but the handguard does.
This wa# my first observation. He was having mostly vertical dispersion in his groups. I would like to see more of the forearm in the front rest and use better sandbags front and rear. I was struggling to watch this.
Listening to the wind and seeing things blowing around, I would say that it affected the shots too. I can tell from experience that a strong breeze with those gusts you had pushed a few flyers around...Try shooting on a calm day, clean the rifle.
All of the shots were high. I don’t see this as a wind issue. I see a dirty gun that was sighted using low power ammo so the higher velocity stuff didn’t have as much drop
@@keiththompson5588 yes sir I’m a little sore. WTW was a great guy. Glad to have you both over. Gods speed to Keith the Bra Thompson and Who Tee Who for a great day. 👍🇺🇸🔫🎥🏆🦃🦌
Well now that was a interesting video, and in my opinion for cheap bulk ammo that Remington golden I think did a pretty good group considering 100 yards the distance. Maybe if you would clean your barrel you could tighten groups up a whole lot better.
Interesting comparison. I did the same a few years back but used "Sub Sonics" they shoot a tighter group, and i used a bolt action it's amazing how the different brands perform and there's no rhyme or reason. One rifle prefers one brand over another. It Looks like the Ruger prefers the last two you tried. Love your work!
I'm sure you know more about this stuff than I do. Others said clean the rifle, that should help. I thought when you were sitting the Norma ammo, with the failures to load, when you went back to the rest the barrel was resting on the front of the rest and not the stock/grip. That's when your groups started opening up to me. Great videos! I've enjoyed watching!
I shot competitive on a college scholarship in college. I rarely cleaned my bolt action anscutz 2013. High velocity cheap ammo is never reliable. You probably can’t get as accurate groups with a semi auto with high velocity. Shoot a bolt action with standard velocity if you want a group. I love your videos and know you are cheap, but spend some money on some Eley, Lapua, or some Federal and see what your gun is capable of.
You know, I don't think a 10/22 has a floated barrel but I was wondering the same thing you were about resting the stock and not the barrel. My conversion went from plastic stock with a barrel band to the overmolded stock with no barrel band and just the action screw holding it all together so I may test groups with barrel rest and stock rest now. Also the torque on the action screw could play a part in better groups.
It might be your gun being dirty. I shoot the cci mini mags with the my 10/22 and hit a auto resetting target 9 out of 10 times at 100 yards. And each round target is less 3 inches wide
If the CZ isn't as dirty as your Ruger, it won't be fair. Clean that dang Ruger. 22's are a dirty round. Besides, I think a Marlin would best them all...WhoTeeWho!!
superpoint43 said 58 minutes ago You need to run 20 to 25 rounds thru the gun to "season" the bore every time you switch ammo before you shoot for groups. Every flavor of 22lr has a different type of lube and you basically need to coat the bore with the lube that bullet was designed for to get it to shoot it's best. Hope that makes sense. and I second the motion.
One thing I always do when switching ammo is to give the barrel a couple fouling shots for it to get used to the different ammo......Then shoot for the best group with that ammo.
I was Woching a video were adjusting your stock screw can make it shoot better ! By finding the harmonic balance of the barrel. I just recently went to a after market stock with a free floating barrel and was shooting a quarter size group’s! And a lot of them were cutting paper between them. Have a great day!!!
Torquing your Ruger 10-22 rifle for the best accuracy. I started out with the Fat Wrench; it's better than nothing, but it doesn’t have increments the problem, so I purchased Real Avid that starts at 10 to 70 inch pounds, and has incremental settings. My cost from TRACT Optics shipping $88.00, and yes, there are other models available.
You are going to get a ton of views on the Part 2 to this video. Count me in for that. I still get an occasional " cold bore" flyer with my 10/22. I don't count them when it's obvious, and the other 9 rounds are clearly a good grouping.
I have a 10/22, and it is a good rifle for plinking, and will shoot acceptable groups, but, it is not my favorite in the precision accuracy department. I have others that will beat it decisively, clean or dirty.
Wait for better day with wind. Clean barrel and season each round before shooting for groups. That would be the best representation of accuracy. Great video.
A 10-22 is not known for out of the box accuracy, even with a scope. Years ago, I had a 22" barrel, 10-22, a Walmart Special. I glass bedded the action into a Ruger International stock and put Tech-Sight (peep sights) on it. I had the trigger done. I replaced the bolt guide rod with a stainless steel rod and installed a bolt stop buffer in it. The end result looked something like a scaled down military rifle. The only thing I did not do, was have the chamber rebored to match specs. Sorry, I don't have a photo for you. It was slick and quiet and pretty accurate, for not having a match barrel. Oddly, that gun was pretty accurate with CCI Stingers.
CCI stinger is a great ammo. Definitely do this again with. A clean 10/22 and the cz. Great video. I don’t clean guns a lot myself. The semi autos do need a good cleaning though.
I have a 10/22 bull barrel target gun. 22's are dirty anyway so unless I'm just plinking I clean mine before looking for any kind of performance. It's crazy the difference it makes.
Really need to stay subsonic when shooting anything over 50 yards. Otherwise the bullet will cross its own sound wake somewhere between 50 and 100 yards and this will definitely disturb the projectile. Anything leaves the barrel above the speed of sound will have an unfair disadvantage at far distances.
Ya, the normas are "standard velocity" around 1100fps everything else you were shooting was around 1250-1450. I think the super x's are the hottest around 1450 then the stinger's. I just bought a 500 round brick of norma. My favorite is federal cphp
My favorite 22 rifles shot good enough to make me keep them and guess what. They were cleaned before I ever fired them . It only takes a couple of rounds to settle back down.
Action screw torque really does matter with accuracy on the 10/22. I didn’t think it would matter but it did lol. Mine is shooting way better at 25 inch lbs.
Haven't cleaned my 10-22 in i couldn't tell you how long. Even when it was cleaned after a few jams from the Goldens and the thunderbolts I refuse to shoot anything other than cci when it counts .
Them thunders are dirty and will even blow powder in your eye when the case ejects. grrrr. Accuracy hasnt been to bad with them though and very rarely a failure to eject. Rem cyclones are my current squirrel bullets as my rifle seems to like them better but I am still buying and trying new ammo. I have tried cci on the same day as the cyclones and thunders and the cyclones absolutely outshined cci and winchester.
With .22s either try to stay supersonic or subsonic. At 100 yds all the rounds will have been transonic at some point. Stingers and other hypers should keep you super to about 75y. Otherwise, just start with subs and you'll see why target shooters use them. No upset.
No need to deep clean. Just run a boresnake through it and call it good. My Savage tightened up to 1.5 and 2 inch groups at 100 yards with CCI Stingers once I gave it a pass with the snake.
I just bought a new scoped 10/22 for my daughters yesterday and snagged an 800 rd box of federal. As a kid I used whatever grandpa gave me. I wanna say it was bulk Remington and I tried to kill all the squirrels in front royal.
What I think: Maybe the rifle being dirty is a small part of the problem, but I don't think there is a lot of quality control in .22lr manufacturing. And expecting a consistently less than 2 in group at 100 yds with a 10/22 is possibly a bit wishful.
With my 10/22 "International", shooting Golf Balls at 100 yards is just fun. auto Match stove pipes, Agulra Super 40 gr., Mini Mags 40 gr. and the Winchester 40 gr, work just fine.
I used to do the same thing with my international manufactured in 1967 (my Dad passed it on to me). First rifle I ever shot and it's still a tack driver,
22's are dirty. Go to the range, get home, CLEAN your firearms. Take 100 rounds of 22 ammo, set up a scale, weigh the rounds, three groups, Light, average, and Heavy. Generally, I find 3-4 heavy, 8-10 light, and finally, about 80% are in the middle. With doing the weighing you can get much better over all consistent groups. It's frustrating to have a 4 shot group, all holes touching, then one "flyer" 2-3 inches out. Weighing the days ammo I get 5 shot groups with all holes touching. 10-22, International, shooting CCI 40 RN, that have been weighed, 10 shot groups at 50 yds. ONE HOLE.
I think that the match ammo is loaded to be below supersonic and for bolt action rifles, and as a lot of others have said, clean it, then shoot a 50 box of ammo and retry. Maybe shooting the CZ and Ruger alternating, with the same ammo side by side. But most of the ammo held minute of Zombie head.
Sorry but that semi- rifle is a teenagers toy but if you want to good 22,cal rifle!!?.. that is Tikka tx1 17hmr or CZ m 457 royal !!.. and couple days ago i shoot sauer 17hmr and oh boy that was something to 1 0 0 meters and the group was a small as dog A.H🙂... and if you want penetration 22, Wmr!!.. meaning if you want to food on table!!. Small animal like black groose, Rabbit, and Fox(if i see some that its an ill MOUSTLY RABIES)!!.. THEE- WHO-THEE!!. 😉😄!!!..
You’ve waited TEN years and STILL haven’t cleaned your 10/22!? Who_Tee_What!! I have a great deal of pride in my 10/22, except that it does need the occasional cleaning compared to my buddy’s 45 year old Lakefield that shoots every bit as well as my Ruger. Okay, it shoots almost every bit as well compared to my Heavy Barreled, Boyd Stock, and very clean Ruger 10/22. Keep in mind that I’ll probably have to clean it before taking it back to the Range. Ten YEARS? 😱
Good lord man, get rid of that hideous shooting rest and get a proper front rest and rear bag. You should also get that scope mounted as low as possible to the bore(lose the ugly see thru rings) Also change out the factory buffer pin in the rifle and replace it with a rubberized buffer. I shot my 10/22 out to 100 this morning, with a 4-12x scope set on 12x, Eley ammo did very well even at their 1100 FPS rating, next best was the CCI AR Tac ammo.
Obviously the faster ammo. is working the best in that dirty rifle, see the CCI Stinger and Super X . By the way 'swig' is right on the money, just saying!
You should check out Lil' Gizzy on eBay. It's a 22lr tool that can flatten, big hp, or little hp 22lr ammo. It swages the bullet to make them more accurate, so they claim. I am not affiliated with them but recently bought one. Haven't had the chance to test it yet but the concept sounds awesome to me. Being able to make your own hollow points during ammo shortages could really help some people, I'm willing to bet. I'd love to see your thoughts and results.
Those are about the group size that I get. I bought mine in’87 at a Kmart. I have only cleaned the barrel. I have watched a couple of videos and think that I will take it apart and give it a proper cleaning soon.
