I’ve found a solid bag front and rear does wonders for the accuracy of a rifle. Great vid sir.

Yeah, I have a front rest, and I could definitely benefit from a rear sandbag. I think the bipods are cool, but definitely not the most stable on a bench.

Great video. Have you thought of going to a 4-16 or a 6-18 power scope? This may help shrink your groups as well as trying hornady or federal ammo. Mine is particular on which brand I shoot.
@crankygunreviews
@crankygunreviews 3 года назад
Yes I have thought about higher magnification scope, but I bought what was available and local. Federal auto match is the best “target” ammo I can find right now. 3/4” to 1” groups are good enough for me, I don’t compete

That's a thought but he may not of bought the rifle to make a long range shooter out of it. He may want a rifle to hunt with and you must remember it's a .22. I would have recommended putting iron sights on it.

I know it's rimfire and you can often be more precise than that round can be, but you had several different holds for the same groups. Be consistent in the sight, hold, breath, and trigger squeeze and you will see an improvement. Personally I like bags on the bench and the bipods for hunting.
@crankygunreviews
@crankygunreviews 2 года назад
Yeah lots of people say bags are better, I have short ones, but usually I use them for rear support when shooting groups. I have an adjustable shooting rear as well, but the bipods are more portable… they’re already on the gun… but I should use a rest of bad for better results.

I have the model with black stock and SS barreled action. I noticed when you fire, you do not follow through. As you squeeze the trigger, once the rifle fires, keep your finger on the trigger, that is follow through, you tend to quikly withdraw your trigger finger. And again you change your shoting position within a string of fire. Illiminate as many variables as possible, same trigger pull, same shooting stance, same grip on the firearm. Dave & The Girls

Thanks for the feedback- I definitely do need to work on my shooting form and repeatability, I am an ok shot, but all self taught, and with so many different platforms I own, they all react somewhat differently. Your advice seems sound, I will try it next time I am out.
@davepoidvin2364
@davepoidvin2364 2 года назад
@@crankygunreviews Regardless of the platform you are using, you are the one constant. Exercising good follow through and a consistant shooting form, is a win/win for you. The quick release of the trigger is something I have noticed even in veteran shooters. I think it is practiced with the subconscience idea of releasing to not infleunce the bullets flight down the barrel. But that sudden movement, however small, will influence that bullet and especially in a rimfire because of the amount of time the bullet is in the barrel. That is why the Remington 40 XBR in .222 Rem, often has a 20 inch barrel, to shorten barrel time, therefore decreasing our potential negative influence on the bullets passage down the barrel. You have firearms that have great potential, as you do as well, I can see that just in your response to my first comment, you have an open mind, great. All the best and keep in touch if you would like to. Dave & The Girls
@crankygunreviews

@@davepoidvin2364 thanks! I am open to your ideas because most people just complain about my breathing or the fact I don’t have the right sand bags, or some other piece of equipment. Never had anyone tell me to hold the trigger down. I do know I move the gun too much, and if I lift my head up when cycling the bolt the gun moves. I could use a lead sled to do these videos, but to me that’s kind of cheating- yes it will tell me the best accuracy of the gun without my input, but I’m the shooter- my input affect accuracy. I appreciate good feedback that helps, rather than those that’s just say “your technique is wrong” or “get better sandbags or bipod” - they don’t help at all

Very nice rifle. For my personal preference if you're just going to do bench at the range shooting then putting your scope that high over the barrel is good. But for me I want to mount all my scopes as close to the barrel as possible with solid steel mounts ! For several reasons. The main reason being I don't want the projectile to have a come up 1-1/2 to 2 inches to the cross hair line of sight !!! I want the line of tragectory to stay as close to the line of sight as possible ! If the cross hair is 2-1/2 inches above then we'll....! Just my personal preference...!

Yes, I have heard that really 75 to 100 yards is the maximum effective range of a 22 WMR, I really find that hard to believe because it’s almost the same round weight is a 22 LR with a lot more velocity. It must be when it true crosses back into Transonic territory It just goes all wonky.

@@crankygunreviews Just take the bolt out and physically look down the bore. Line your “target” up in the center of the bore and adjust the scope accordingly. It really should get you on paper just as well if not better than a laser bore sighter. I did it for 3 rifles using a light post about 50 yards away. Worked well. Sighted in under 5 shots for all 3. If it’s an AR just take the upper off and remove the BCG, get it stable, and so the same thing. Works for any optic/sight. Best part… it’s free! Of course, this is assuming your firearm allows you to remove the bolt to have visual access to begin with.
@crankygunreviews
@crankygunreviews Год назад
@@ryanwilson5936 Thanks! Yeah I have tried that before, I need a more stable setup to do that though. Gun moves too much with just a front rest. Some day I may invest in a lead sled, but it takes the personality out of shooting if it's clamped in a vice IMO. Yes, the gun will be more accurate if you take the human interference out of the equation, but reality is, a human most times will be holding a gun, and moving around a little.
@ryanwilson5936
@ryanwilson5936 Год назад
@@crankygunreviews I absolutely agree about the lead sleds/vises. I can see a need for a vise if you’re one of those guys that go shoot 200 pigs every weekend but that’s a special case. Now, I do like to use the most stable platform to zero in a scope to its best capabilities just to take the gun/scope out of the equation. It really helps when dealing with wind and unstable positions to at least know what shouldn’t be your rifle causing impact issues. After sight-in though I try to rely more on myself for precision/accuracy than just clamping it down in perfect aim and pushing a button. I like a challenge and perfection can get boring real quick. For my RAR .22lr Preditor I just use a an inexpensive Caldwell bipod coupled with a relaxed but deliberate shoulder purchase and my left hand to fine tune aim. I try to let my brain fire the gun instead of my finger. Meaning, if you’re relaxed, your cheek weld is on, and trigger pull is consistent that when when you’re aiming and your sights are doing the ol’ bob-n’-weave there will become a point when they cross exactly where you want to aim and you brain knows it’s time to pull the trigger and your finger just does it naturally followed by yourself being surprised by the blast. Your brain knows what it’s doing. Instead of having such a dead focus that you have to tell your finger “aaaaaaand NOW!”. When you do the latter, if the round were to somehow not fire and just “click” that tends to be where you see someone have a major body jerk which would have otherwise resulted in a flyer. Why? Because you were anticipating the shot happening instead of your brain letting you stay relaxed throughout the process to become surprised by the blast. It takes some training to get used to but after a while it becomes second nature. Of course, starting with an accurate rifle with accurate ammo is the ideal starting point. From there, one can work on the above. A lot of what I said came from Paul Harrell’s channel but it’s legit info that works. If you haven’t checked him out yet you’re missing out on some fantastic information. Sorry for the long comment. I haven’t been to the range in a while lol. Have a good one!
