I only use mini mags. I have fired 250 rounds and have not had any FTF or FTE.

I'm learning more from the comments than from the video. Thanks 👍

Firstly, Winchester .22lr ammo sucks. You can send the Winchester company a loud and clear message by not buying their .22lr ammo. Secondly, while Stingers are a great ammo, firearms with a very light slide/bolt spring can have timing problems with cycling this ammo because stingers can make it cycle too fast and therefore cause out of timing cycling. Mini Mag 40 grain are always the best bet. They are not that expensive when you sondier the number of crap rounds in a bulk box of cheapammo and the aggravation caused by them. Remember, crap bulk ammo is not a firearms fault.

It's actually not failures to feed. I thought the same thing at first, but It's the slide locking back because the rounds contact the little tab that is supposed to be pushed up by the magazine follower when the gun is empty. This causes the slide to lock back before all rounds are fired. It took me a long time to figure out. It's a design flaw. That little tab needs to be sanded down just a tiny bit. This gun really hates Winchester ammunition as well. CCI Mini Mags and Blazer Mini Mags work very well.

I have one I bought last summer that has this issue. It's not a break in, cleaning/lubrication or ammo related problem. I tried 7 different brands and types of ammo and it does this with ALL of them...even CCI. It's not a "break in" issue because I have fired almost 1,000 rounds through it. It's not a magazine issue because I have 5 different factory magazines and it does this with ALL of them. It's not a cleaning and lubrication issue because the gun is spotless inside and out and I have tried several high end firearm lubes I have on hand that I use including Mil-Comm TW-25B, Shooters Choice FP-10 Elite and Wilson Combat Ultima-Lube II Universal. No WD-40..... 3 IN 1 or Hoppe's used here. The pistol still locks back before a empty magazine is present. I'm going to have to experiment with tuning the slide stop spring tension or possibly shaving off a few thousands off the contact areas of the slide stop to see what happens. I'm not wasting my time sending it back to Ruger as it's well documented they don't fix anything and keep sending them back defective. Some people have sent them back 3 or more times with nothing being done or corrected. Had I known all these issues I would have never bought this pistol because I also have Beretta 21A Bobcats that run 100% and always work. These are not cheap either and I had to give $329.99 + 7% sales tax for mine. For that kind of money they should work.

@@JohnDoeEagle1 Did you end up figuring out a fix to the ruger lcp ii failure-to-feed issues?
@patrickrenschler
@patrickrenschler 10 месяцев назад
@jaymartinson3236 How much did you sand the tab down? Any issues with the empty mag not causing slide to lock open now? Which CCI Mini Mags did you prefer more, the 36gr varmint Hollow Point or the 40gr target round nose?
@JohnDoeEagle1
@JohnDoeEagle1 10 месяцев назад
@@patrickrenschler That's funny you should ask that yesterday. I haven't had this pistol out since I posted that previous comment. I was just thinking about taking it back out this weekend to try some more stuff. I have a extra power recoil spring to try and I was told to make sure not to grip the pistol tightly at the bottom on the magazine base plate with my finger sometimes pulling it back in the grip by another owner. I also want to try some kind of spray on car wax inside the magazine body and, or on the follower. Eventually Ruger will get these issues figured out and then everybody with older ones with problems can send them back including me. As for right now it's just a trial and error guessing game for the time being. It's fine for a plinking pistol or something to carry while fishing for killing pests but I won't be using this for self defense on humans anytime soon until I get it all sorted out. 11 shots of .22 LR hollow points in your pocket would be a nice lightweight easy to carry backup pistol option IF and when it works with at least 75+% reliability. At this time we aren't even at 50% reliability and I won't use it for that purpose until things greatly improve. This gun jams more than it functions and fires which makes it a no-go for use on people.

Had some issues with mine too , sent it back to Ruger and they replaced the whole top end and now she runs perfectly with cci, aguila,federal auto match 650 rds no issues

My LCP is ammo picky. It likes the Aguila the most. I tested 4 hollow point types (100+ rounds of each type). Stock gun with no modifications. CCI Stingers had many failures to eject, 2-4 per magazine. 1 failure to fire. The last few mags I shot did work without malfunction. It may be warming up to the Stingers as it breaks in. CCI Velocitor had several failures to feed, 1-2 per mag. They are catching on the upper side of the barrel. CCI Mini-Mags (36 gr. HP) almost perfect performance with 1 failure to feed out of 130 rds. Aquila Interceptor has been flawless. I had 2 mags of these that I carried everyday for several months. They had dust and pocket lint all over. The top round in the extra mag had worn through the copper plating and even had lint in the HP. I fired them as is and they functioned flawlessly.

Identical to Jeffrey's situation. After Ruger barrel replacement it has run Aguila 40 grain ball without a single issue, about 500 rounds, but several issues with the other 4 or 5 brands I've tried.

The problems are from the magazines... ftf. Light strikes etc. I was having ftf etc tried a new magazine and it ran thunderbolts, Goldens fed auto match mini and s.v. aguila. After I put a new magazine in it it ran flawless. But, I can't see any differences other than the new magazine being new and not cleaned.

We tested all kinds of ammo in ours, and now we only run mini-mags, blazers, and thunderbolts through ours...but because of the numerous problems when first testing, my missus absolutely will not carry this gun...that's okay, I think it does just fine for at least 3 magazines, and so we keep the gun as a range toy and just in case a need all guns available situation arises...the gun ain't much, but another 30 quick rounds can't hurt...

Mine was locking back. I wondered if my thumb was pushing up the slide Lock. Nope. What was really going on, was the Recoil. When the slide hits the end-of-travel, the muzzle flips up and the rear of the slide goes down FAST! The slide Lock area rotates downwards. The slide Lock is loose, and it's mass means it stays put. (Once a body is at rest, it remains at rest, until acted on, by an outside force). It just floats there while the retracted slide rotates down on it. The slide lock-notch drops down on the slide lock claw, as the recoil spring pulls the slide forward about 1mm. It's in locked back mode.

WeaponsTecMac- thanks for the video. My LCP 22 is "just about OK". Seems to like the Aguila ammo. If I fire 3 10 rd mags I'll get a failure of some type...maybe a stove pipe, failure to fire, or even the slide lock engaging too soon. I know I can probably fix the slide lock issue with a little sanding, etc. So 1 or 2 in 30 may be ok BUT not if I want to carry for protection. Actually bought it for my wife - she likes to shoot it but has doubts since the gun has not been 100% in her hands - so she's reluctant to carry it. (she broke her strong side wrist a few years ago and still has pain.) ..... I have a little over 600 rds and thought the little gun would "break in" with better results. I did polish the feed ramp but that's about all. I'm also of the school where I shouldn't have to spend 30% more on spring kits etc to get a better result. Am I expecting too much from a rimfire? 2 out of 30 rds would be 6.6%.

You've hit upon the major objection to 22 as a primary carry caliber. Rimfire is not and never will be as reliable as centerfire just because of the nature of how it's made. That being said, training on reducing failures will go a long way toward increasing confidence with the weapon. It is a very accurate and soft shooting little thing though and I enjoy it.

Good video. I had issues 10 years ago with Ruger's sr22. Would not cycle any ammo. Did not matter what kind. I emery clothed the slide and feed rail . It helped but not fixed. I sold that gun and decided to wait ten more years until they got it right. Now I have to chose the Walther P22q or the Ruger lcp22..

Also, don't use cheap ammo for carry. Use cheap ammo at the range to get experience clearing problems. You know, the problems you are avoiding when you use good ammo.

And this is why you do not carry a .22 semi auto for self defense. As a retired LEO and someone who has been shooting for decades including my collection of semi auto .22s I know that the .22 rimfire cartridge is too unreliable to trust my life with. They are fun for plinking as the misfires, stovepipes, etc. won’t get you killed. I laugh every time I see a video of someone saying how great a .22 pistol is for a carry self defense weapon. At the very least carry a .22 revolver so when it misfires you can simply pull the trigger for the next round, not having to clear unspent rounds, stovepipes, failure to feed, eject, etc. better yet learn how to shoot .380 or 9mm as the center fire round is much more reliable than .22 rimfire.

I'm very certain mine is very ammo picky. Won't cycle Winchester super x very well, clean and new rounds. Cycles buckets like 7/10 okay. But it handles blazers fine, as well as CCI

Man, I’m sorry about your gun. I shoot hundreds of round between problems. I use automatch and Aguilia. CCI and golden bullet give me problems. I had a bunch of problems after I dropped it into fine sand that cleared up after a couple of good cleanings. I keep mine lubed up pretty good and clean it often. It rarely misfeeds or fails to fire. Too bad about yours. I’d be p’d too.
