After sighting in at 60 feet, I could easily cover 5 shots with a nickel ru-vid.comUgkxQt2uORDRfFOVSrO4idv4B90ThT6EOnEL ! Truly a pleasure to shoot! Scope was easy to adjust for eye relief. Only problem the varmints must have seen it delivered lol!Update: So impressed with shot groups at 30 yards I purchased a Hammers 3×9 with adjustable Objective scope! Now a true nail driver!
I've got the precision in 308 but I'm getting this beauty to practice trigger discipline and target acquisition. 22 is waaaay cheaper to practice with than 308
I just looked at one of these yesterday the trigger was unbelievable on the one I looked at no pre, or over travel it was as clean as my Black Mamba trigger. It was priced $499.00 I think I will go back today and buy it.
Really enjoy your channel. Low key, informative, honest and straight forward. As someone who'd like to get back into shooting paper, after years and years of not enjoying the sport, your videos are extremely helpful and unintimidating. Thanks mate.
Recently picked one of these up. Very fun rifle to shoot. My son is 2 months old and will be shooting it throughout his childhood (he won’t start until he is 4 years old). I like how the rifle can grow with the child/user.
Yesterday I picked up my Ruger Precision Rimfire Rifle. Today I took it to the range. On paper at 25 yards tighten it up until it was blowing out the bulls eye moved to the 50 yard and zero it there. Blew the bulls eye out there did the same thing at 100 yards . Nothing but awesome fun shooting and much easier on your pocket when it comes to ammo. A BSA Sweet 22 scope CCI Standard 22LR . If you do your part. Believe me Ruger has done their part. Once again Ruger has knocked it out the park.... 😊👍❤️💯🇺🇸
ON TARGET THOM uncle sam I’ve heard some people complaining saying it’s not accurate and some other stuff have you had any problems? I just bought this yesterday for $355 hope I did good?
Derek Quinones I used a set of rings that were low by sniper 1" and was to low as the base mount is a 20 MOA went with Vortex high rings that raised the scope 1.22 off the mount the front ocular of the scope is about 3/4 in. off my barrel and I'm shooting at 200yrds. hope this is helpful to you be sure and lap your rings in and align them as well
Just bought this gun today. I've been looking for a while at it. Found I was getting quarter inch groups at 35 yards. What a great gun! The one I have is 22 mag instead. Can't complain at all about the accuracy.
I've had couple 10/22's, and it's amazing how accurate they are out of the box. Then...your imagination is the limit for mods. I picked up an old MK1 pistol about a month ago. It is sooo much fun to shoot, and unbelievably accurate for a 5 1/2" barrel. I think I'm gonna step up and get a rifle now, and this is definitely a good option. Right now my target rifle is center-fire, 6mm ARC and it's more like a 300 to 500 yard shooter. I want to get a rim-fire rifle and shoot 100-200 yards with it. I definitely like Ruger patterning this rifle to AR-15 design. will be checking that out. Thanks Plinkster !! Another excellent video!
I watched this video back in January 2020 and headed down to my local shop to see if they had one. I already had an RPR in .308 with a Burris XTR II 5-25x50 and was looking for something to use as a less expensive trainer. They had one on the rack for $370. It came home with me that day. I ordered a Burris Fullfield E1 in 4.5-14x42, but the parallax on that scope only comes in to 50 yards, making a KYL (rimfire .25"-2") virtually impossible to hit at 25 yards. I wound up putting a Vortex Diamondback Tactical 6-24x50 on it and couldn't be happier. Not only is this rifle an absolute blast to shoot, it has also improved my shooting on the .308 as well. I have been able to consistently shoot single-hole 5-shot groups at 25-30 yards, and run the KYL target. Thanks for a great review!
dang it, I just ordered a Savage Mark 2 with a Boyd stock and now found this video. Man the sound with suppressor is beautiful, I cant wait to get mine out of jail.
Took mine out again today, 50 Degrees, no wind. Tried 4 types of ammo, 50 yards. All grouped well, but the Lapua Center X was the best. All groups with Center X had all holes touching. For $399, it works for me.
Thanks Plinkster ! I have been shooting my ruger american rimfire for the past year and a half and have fallen in love with bolt guns and throwing little pebbles at long range. My rimfire will hold a 3 1/2 to 4 inch group at a 100 yards. But now we have stepped into the world of match grade ammo ! And ammo seek says the gold match ammo is 9 cents a round. Now we have crossed the line on reloading. I can load 9 mm for 8 cents a round with making my projectiles. After shooting 1200 plus round a month I am ready to move up in cal and distance. So with all that said were do you stop with 22's and were do you move on. The cost of shooting is a game changer. And I am not a collector I am a shooter.
Picked one up a few weeks ago in OD green and have shot it quite a bit. First, it's an absolute joy to shoot, and the OD green is beautiful! I adjusted the trigger down to around 2 lbs and it's very crisp! Have around 300-400 rds through it so far with zero issues. Where this rifle really shines is its adjustability. I just got back from a weekend out in the wilderness with kids from 8 yrs old and adults. The stock adjustability made it possible for kids to cheek up and feel comfortable shooting using the scope. That alone was worth every cent. We were also able to free hand hit 2" steel targets out to 30 yards all day long. The RPR has easily become one of my favorite guns to shot, bar none! Throw some Aguila Colibri down range and make your buds think it's internally suppressed! Lol
I love to watch your videos because they are: (1) informative, (2) cover the meat and potatoes of the subject, (3) they are well organised, (4) move right along and, (5) are just plain fun to watch with your infectious enthusiasm! Well done!
I always enjoy your down to earth videos with real commentary that I find useful and to the point, and this one is no exception. Thanks for another enjoyable show!
Great review! I'd love to see this rifle in the .17 WSM! I mean, it is the world's fastest rimfire and more suited to longer ranges so it makes perfect sense! Hope Ruger is paying attention! There's not many rifles available in that caliber so they'd be hitting a home run.
They won't make it in 17wsm. If they make magnum rimfire variants, they will just stick to the usual 17hmr and 22wmr. This is ruger we're talking about, they always play it safe.
I love mine. It is my favorite out of all my guns. Simply for the reason it is soooo fun to shoot. Cheap ammo amazing accuracy what more could you ask for. I use eley force and man is this riffle accurate. I went threw 2000 rounds the first week I got it. Just a all around great gun.
I have a 10/22 carbine heavily modified and just bought this rifle for 50 yard silhouette shooting. I have a Crossfire G2 6-24 50mm can’t wait to transfer that scope to the new Ruger.
I bought this a few months ago-in 17 HMR I love this gun - absolutely one of my favs if not my favorite of all- this is very very cool and super accurate
Enjoyed your video. I am a left-handed shooter. I prefer 22 long. I have a Savage 6a from the late 30’s that was bought by my father in Sask. prior to the war. I am enjoying using this rifle at my range here in Canada. I am always looking for a better rifle. I will check this one out.
I bought the Ruger 556/223 last year. (I was supposed to build one but..) I did some changes to BCG, grip and heat shield key-mold hand guard . I have shot everything from the cheapest metal casing to reloaded metal and brass. It has yet to fail. Big Ruger fan, and I have a 10/22 breakdown with about the same scope.
Hey Plinkster, I've been following your videos for a few years now and have watched this video a few times over the years to see if a Ruger Precision Rimfire was what I really wanted. This past week I finally pulled the trigger and got one and am super glad I did. I put a Vector Sentinel X 10-40x50 scope on it and some Vortex rings. With CCI Standard Velocity Target and CCI Blazer it was putting them in very tight clover leaf pattern. When I loaded up some Lapua Center X, it was almost like one hole at 50; no joke. When I was done playing around getting it set up, I was shooting ground squirrels between 75 and 143 yards with American Eagle high velocity red box. I actually ranged them with a range finder. Nothing has been added to this rifle other than an optic and no suppressor; just straight out of the box. It is a keeper for sure.
I have a savage model 10 stealth 6.5 and it’s awesome and I really enjoy reloading and tinkering trying to get that optimal load out. But definitely pick one of these Rugers up. My good friend and I both have them and in a way they are more fun and way cheaper to shoot than the creedmoor. Highly recommend. Plus it’s hard to find a range near me to even let the 6.5 stretch it’s legs. With this you only need a few hundred yards of range.
Got one on order with a Tasco 10-40x50 scope. Might get it in a couple of months (none in Australia yet). Hanging out to test it at 100 (our normal rimfire comp) and 200 yards! (be nice to beat the centerfire guys with a .22)
22plinkster: Thank you for the entertaining and informative video. I was on the fence about which small caliber rifle to buy next and, after watching this, I went ahead and purchased one myself. Quick question: what bench rest are you using there? I’ve always just gone prone or once in a while in a modified supported position using vehicles or other cover, but I’ve been thinking about buying a portable bench rest and am leaning toward the Caldwell lite version. Any insight about your preference would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and God bless!
IMPRESSIVE shooting! This is a heavy rifle! (Compared to other .22 cal rifles) I guess the weight contributes to its precision. I can see WHY of all the padding and stands. With the proper scope, it can be a very precise rifle.
Very well done video, video tres bien fait!! Just ordered one of this beauty in .22 Mag perfect carbine and fun to shoot with. My daugthers and the cousins shot with my Ruger 10/22 tactical bull barrel today and we got a lot of fun :) Perfect summer's souvenirs !!!
Looks nice. I think the groups will clean up with a good break in and some good ammo selection. I'd look at some eley or wolf match extra as well. But either way, it looks like an awfully nice rifle.
Would like to see this rifle compared to 10/22 Target Model or the new Ruger Custom Shop Competition 10/22. Curious to see if the bolt is that much more accurate then auto at 50 and 100 yds. With the same target or match grade Ammo.
This is the review I've been waiting for. My concern is that Ruger made a new receiver, stock and foreguard, then slapped on it the same old target barrel that's on the Ruger 10/22 Target rifle. At 50 yards, the accuracy looks good, but since Ruger seems to think this is worth shooting at 200 yards (the 30moa rail) I'd like to see what kind of long range accuracy it's really capable of.
Hey 22Plinkster! I enjoyed your video. Savage came out with a new rifle last year and I was hoping you would review it for us. It is called the savage b17 in .17hmr. Thanks so much!
I would love to see you do a review with this rifle and different “hunting” rounds or rounds that would be used for varmints such as velocitors or CCI supersonic segmenting bullets or other brands of ammo that is hyper velocity. I know you’re sponsored by CCI but I would love to see that! Thanks and great video. I just got my Ruger Precision Rimfire in 22 lr but it’s main purpose is a pest control rifle not competition.
Probably need a barrel designed for the hyper velocity rounds. I was excited by the Stinger rounds when they came out but found they were not inparticular useful. My favorite hunting round is the standard velocity. Subsonic has less crack and better accuracy. I hunt mostly rabbits for my supper and it makes them very dead.
yokoshemp since I’ve posted this comment I have switched almost primarily to subsonic rounds and have been really pleased with this choice. The accuracy is amazing. Yes, a little more hold over but I just got to know my gun and it’s deadly out to 100 yards consistently on gophers.
What do you think of this vs the Savage B22 precision ? I have a few Rugers and a few Savages and I'm generally happy with all of them. Thinking about the B22 or B17 precision next. My buddy says the CZ 457 is better. Thoughts ?
Love mine. Two range trips so far. On a day with no wind, got .145 inch groups at 50 yards with Federal Match. Today, windy as hell, and tried 100 yards. Best ammo was Federal Ultra Match and got .71 inch groups. Fine rifle.
I just saw a infomercial for a Ruger rim fire rifle ....... And I LIKED it. Ruger, SMART. Move, because you were smart enough to introduce you new product line through 22Plinkster I will probably purchasing one very soon.
Gary Helms It wasn't an infomercial.... good grief. They have NEVER paid me a dime. Yes, they send me things to review. I can't afford to buy every gun I review. Why is it that if myself, Hickok, Sootch, Eric, Tim, or anyone else, give a positive review on a product, they are immediately called a shill, sellout, or a paid spokesman?
Gary Helms Btw, I'm not mad at you for saying what you said. I just hear this ALL THE TIME, and it de-credits who I am and what I say. Sorry, I've had a bad last 24 hours, and you were just caught up in my venting.
22plinkster, my comment was meant to be a Positive post and in NO way did I mean it to be despairing to you. I really APPRECIATE what you do. I was just trying to say because of your REVIEW I have become interested in this rifle. I have nothing but respect for your talents and you save me a lot of wasted time by posting your reviews. My apologies. I watch only a select few youtube channels and I know that there are people who constantly give negative feed back and I would never intentionally do that.
This rifle was designed as a trainer for the centerfire Ruger Precision Rifle and as a rifle package option for shooters that want to join the precision rimfire matches that are becoming very popular as of late, hence why it has all the bells and whistles needed for that style of competition. For the street price of $399-$450 is an outstanding value and price point for an American made product. The "standard" accuracy for a good rimfire rifle is 1/2" @ 50 yards, so this rifle can do what any other CZ can do with quality ammunition. The choice between a CZ or the Ruger Precision Rimfire would come down to what purpose the rifle would serve for a specific shooter. Personally I am a bolt action Savage rimfire shooter and have tried plenty of rimfire rifles including CZs and 10/22's and I would consider the Ruger Precision and the CZ rifles depending on the application.
MrHdlopez but this rifle has a hot rod stock and trigger and still is only shooting competitive while using match ammo that any bone stock CZ455 I've ever shot, or even the CZ 512 auto loader can do. I've seen Savages shoot better as well, not to mention Anschutz or the fabled Bsa, or older Winchester and Remington match rifles. The RPR shoots better than average no doubt, but it ain't a match rifle. This rifle is more so for the tacticool crowd that wants every bolt gun to be in a chassis system. It is basically an American Rimfire in a better stock with a few minor tweaks. Even the Ruger precision centerfire isn't anything special in the accuracy department. In a value of accuracy per dollar consideration, count me solidly in the CZ and Savage rimfire fan camp.
MrHdlopez of the local variety it is typically a few guys shooting Anschutz, occasionally a Cz or Savage laying waste to everyone else. I'm not sure which targets you are referring to, but we do a variety here. Ranging from a normal target, to the common target of a sheet of dots, to the shoot til you miss at progressively smaller targets. But maybe you are talking about something different? Our matches are usually called rimfire benchrest and not "precision" specifically. In either regard, this rifle will be regularly outclassed (assuming equal shooters) by most every Anschutz, most CZs, and a good portion of Savages. God help whoever buys this Ruger if they shoot against something like a Cooper rifle.
Ashley Weeks yes they are different matches. I am familiar with the benchrest matches you are talking about. We can talk a bit about it tomorrow after I return home.
I have 2 Savage mkII rifles, both of them are sub moa at 100 yards with .40 grain CCI mini mags. If I do my part they will shoot 1/2 moa all day. Good rifles if set up right and you practice with it, and yes both are bull barrels.
Just FYI, you shouldn’t measure groups from the end of the ruler. You should start with the 1st long dash as that’s where the 1st inch actually starts being measured.
He's measuring from the edge of the hole which is how competition measures. If the center of the bullet is in the 9 ring but the hole breaks the edge of the 10 ring it's scored as a 10.
Have not seen a 7th ID patch in a long while. LIGHTFIGHTER! I was with C Company 1-123rd AVN, "Air Attack" 88-90. Loved Ft. Ord, definitely my best state side assignment
