I got my Ruger Security 380 about a month ago I too payed less then 300 for mine, being an older guy (75) with the weakened wrists this gun is absolutely great for me. I have taken it to the range several times and have now put 400 rounds through it with no problems. Enjoyed your review of it.
A buddy bought a Ruger Security 380 easy for $313 taxes and background check. He is a retired law enforcement official and he loves this weapon. Trigger and manual safety are great options. Also the 15rd mag is a great option.
Got this for the wife and so far so good. For 300 bucks it's solid. Doesn't feel cheap. The only cheap part is the mags to me. Shoots great. Trigger is decent but for 300 it does what it should. It's a older shooters, first time shooters, or women's bed side firearm. That's why the safety is there.
I got mine a couple weeks ago new at my local gun store for $299, they sold out in a week. I am happy with it and it shoots great. I have put 6 boxes of CCI Blazer Brass through it and some Hornady self defense rounds and no issues at all. Feels great in the hand and will be a great gun for my wife
Due to severe arthritis in both shoulders and knees, I use a fanny pack when I walk. The thumb safety makes carry in a fanny pack safer. If surgery is successful and belt carry is possible, it would matter less. One other point its always a good idea to have a gun available when you have been injured. It will happen eventually.
I am similar, carry technically 'off-body' though it's in a sling Across my body, I'm looking for this one one of the new metal frame .380s, carry a PDP now, love the gun but it only has a 'trigger dingus' and not 100% trusting in it.

I own this and the Security 9. The trigger on the 380 is just fine for me; though I did purchase a Galloway Seneschal trigger upgrade for the “9” and I find it much better than the stock trigger. Good review. Cheers.
I bought one for my wife and she loves it! I put a laser on it for her and she is shooting the lights out lol ! She is 68 and it’s perfect for her as a carry gun !
Seeing you put those shots down range in such quick succession with such low recoil really, really speaks to me. Lol I want one of these soooo bad. The only bad thing is I’m in the market for a EDC CCP that is small enough I don’t have any excuses not to have on me every time I leave the house. But damn I want this. Great vid.
It's a great gun to SHOOT. Not so much to CARRY, unless you're carrying in a bag or OWB. But it's doable. If I was in your position, I'd want to take a close look at the Beretta Tomcat. It's not as capable as the Ruger because of it's capacity and range. But it's a lot of fun to shoot, and it's way easier to carry.
I have a Max-9 and a LCP Max. Love both of them. Only thing I dislike about the rugers in general is the black oxide finish, my sweat eats it up. I put a matching cerakote on both and then the galloway precision triggers in each. Very reliable and very accurate Rugers. People talk down on Ruger constantly but they're still the "working man's pistol" in my opinion. I might pick up one of these if the price is right..wanting my sister to look at one of these to replace her 5 shot S&W airweight 38spl. Btw, I run Federal Hydra-shok "Deep" or the Hornady XTP 380 loads in my LCP Max and would run it in this one too.
Most hammer fired guns have a safety ( sans the Max) Ported slide to help reduce the weight of the slide.. because of lower pressure 380 rounds Great review… subscribed
Good review, took awhile to find one, found one four days ago but priced over msrp. Found it today below msrp and purchased. Still very hard to find in Mi. PS 45 acp is my favorite round but would not feel unarmed with this.
Modern 380's from a barrel this length are plenty capable for all self defense needs. I probably wouldn't take this pistol to war, but if you think war conditions are what civilian self protection is in America in the 21st century, your setting yourself up for a long stay in the custody of the state.
The only gun i have ever seen that truly did not shoot straight was a shotgun (before screw in chokes) patterned to the left of where it was pointed. The choke was bored a bit crooked in the barrel the barrel was also starting to bulge a bit. Returned to store for a replacement. Some guns are easier to shoot straight than others but they pretty much all shoot straight. Practice is fun
Can’t wait to fire mine! I got lucky and got the last one at my shop. I don’t need the lite rack but I like the size and how easy it will be to shoot. I love my P365 but it’s not the nicest shooting gun which is fine for carry but this might replace it to be honest.

Why do they keep calling this a "Ladies gun" or "Handicap gun"? Sorry, just seems a bit silly to me. BTW It's the exact same frame as the Ruger Security 9 compact.
For the most part I assume it's a macho thing. There are male body parts envy and gun parts envy the same way. Generally bigger is better. The "inferior"gun parts, accessories and ammo are: smaller frame sizes, manual safeties, smaller caliber barrels and ammos. Generally for the male, older age, children and women fall in to the "inferior" category. The concession to the inferior categories are: "it's better than a sharp stick" or its varient "it's better than throwing rocks". Less frequent are the really relevant discussions of: real case uses that match probability of use, the need for routine practice and training, proper sighting of the firearm and it's variation by ammo, legal implications for various uses--let alone that the most important factor of all is shot placement. Regardless, the usual content is helpful to various degrees on the characteristics of the firearm and it's use of ammo along with the mechanics of shooting.
Nice Review and shooting! I just got one for well under 300.00 Though I have never owned or shot a 380 I had to get it, because of all the great reviews. S&W may have invented this new "easy rack/lite rack" category of larger frame "compact" 380's but Ruger has made a better mousetrap. No grip safety, and 10& 15 round mags to start with. Smith really should not have put a grip safety, on a pistol for elderly, arthritic, carpal tunnel victims, shoulder and elbow surgery victims, small petite women, etc. etc. I heard of one being sold to a man with only 2 fingers! Not to mention all the other categories that I haven't thought of. Many folks can have problems keeping it actuated, just being in sub optimal shooting positions alone! There must be a huge market for these. Because of a joint condition, my dad , a former union carpenter, had to have both his wrists fused eventually from joint wear, so I know I will be there someday as well. I may as well start to embrace it. 9x17 isn't that much smaller of a case than 9x19 anyway. sometimes i wonder when these guys are saying prices like under 300 is truth, i see this alot in gun reviews, i cant even see this firearm under 420 and thats on sale at sportsmans.
Dear mr. Shootsalot you say you are a ruger person. Thank you for a good revue on the security 380. I think ruger could actually make better quality guns for the price point. The mini 14 and mini 30 are an embarrassment.

I just picked mine up today. Now, I'm not a trigger snob, but that thing is horrendous. When I first pulled it, I thought it was going to snap off. It must be over 10-pounds. Quite literally, the worst trigger I ever pulled, and just so you know, I love Ruger. But this trigger SUCKS.
From all the reviews I've seen it looks like you may have gotten a gun with a defective trigger, I'd reach out to Ruger if I were you. (Unfortunately, I am not you, I'm a Canadian and Turdope just put a freeze on the sale or purchase of all handguns. I definitely would have picked one up otherwise!
My trigger feels like maybe 5lbs. It's decent, I just just like the reset but this is a 300 dollar gun. It's not a racegun. If someone wants amazing trigger, you gotta pay 😂
Let me educate you on that safety. That is the ONLY GUN safety on that forearm. Any trigger safeties are just a drop safety, in case you drop the gun, it will not fire since nobodies finger is on it. So if you think those thrigger safeties are fun safeties, then you are 100% wrong. Nobody is going to try to pull a trigger with their fingernail only on the edge, missing that trigger safety. So all your non manual safety guns have NO SAFETY. GOD is the only perfect being. Man makes mistakes, so unless you have never made a Mistake in your life and you are GOD like, then go for it. Otherwise, learn that those safeties do. Most normal folks have no clue. Oh it gets in my way. It slows me down. If you cannot flip that thing off before reaching your support hand, then you need to switch over to revolvers. It’s quite simple, and the fastest female shooter in the world, Jesse Harrison shoots a 2011 with the safety on, and out shoots those who run Glocks.
Now I will say you have a great channel, but like most folks, you don’t have a clue about the safeties on your guns. I am 61, been shooting since I was 5 and have had 4 years working with a professional gunsmith. I know from what the manufacturers say those safeties are for. Most guys hate them, but if you carry one, it’s your life. Be e trembly careful. It’s like Carrying a revolver all the time with the hammer cocked. Just sayin.
Sorry friend you are wrong. This one cannot be fully cocked until the trigger is pulled which pushes the hammer out of the precharge position to the fully rear position before letting it go. If you are worrying about the hammer coming loose, the hammer won't travel far enough and therefore wont have the force to set off the primer from the precharge position. Not the same as a cocked 1911, not the same as your typical striker fired pistol either. You could also be a little more respectful in your comments- its considered rude to tell someone they "don't have a clue"- and in this case ironic because your comment is incorrect.
If you were a smaller person, or weakened in some way, a small 9mm would be hard to make follow up shots with. If you had an injury, arthritis, or were just advanced in age I could certainly see the use for a gun like this in a self defense capacity. For the rest of us, it's just another fun gun to shoot and a great choice to introduce newbs to the world of handguns.
You obviously haven't truly researched the lethality of a 380 in the human body as opposed to ballistics gel cowboys on you tube. The body is far more fragile than you let on. Trauma surgeons will te you its a devastating round. I'm not talking about virtual scenarios but real life incidents!
