I dont know if it works in Upstate NY because a lot of these houses dont put out heavy volume or even middle of the road volume. I bowled on Carbon yesterday and the break point should have been 10 but the break point was more like 7 or you had to really hurl it down about 12 or it was split city. but when i go out of state to bowl i do find this tool very helpful.
One way to do it is to record your ball, slow down the footage, and count how many times a certain mark makes a full rotation. Mark can be anything like a peace of tape, engraving, thumb hole, etc. Doing the calculation is easy.
If u want to see ur revs throw your ball in the heavy oil pattern of the lane and when it comes back look at the oil trail around the ball. It would look like a bow tie then count how many lines go around that bow tie
Yes the pro tips are good. Keep in mind though that rule of 31 doesn't really work on the really short patterns. Like the Wolf especially the old one. It also doesn't really work on anything much longer than 45 feet. It is however a good general starting guideline. On most of the patterns if you know what you are bowling on. Like the one guy said its usually only off by a board or two. That board or two variance. Usually is because of individual bowler style.
Great vid guys! Very interesting. I’ve got a few tournaments coming up, so this will help. I appreciate all the work you guys put in. Also, I think it’s good to have the Imoos in there. They are both very talented. God bless.
I know of the Rule of 31 but I don't use it since it makes me get in my head too much and I feel like I miss shots more often. That said very good video with good information.
Good grief! You guys are awesome. I love watching your videos I know I keep saying that but it is just so fun to watch Jungo and his family and friends talk bowling all the while having fun while doing that. Plus the sound effects are frek'n great. Keep up the good work my friends!
Funny thing is, the 2 patterns that you chose. I am on South Carolina All Stars and Broadway was January's tournament pattern and Route 66 is February's pattern lol. What a coincidence!
It’s all relative to the pattern, the lane type, temperature, some days the lanes might hook more or less. So normally I play to the right of the rule of 31 w urethane just bc I can control the pocket and as the day goes on I move in and then that’s where the rule of 31 comes in play where the breakpoint gets inside more. For jr gold and SYC no one really uses the rule of 31 either bc we don’t know the pattern or the gutters play
Definitely just a generality that isn't always true. Like you mentioned, there's so many things that can change how a pattern plays. I've bowled on 47ft where there was hook outside and 35ft where anything 5 and out was picking 3 or in the gutter.
I just started bowling like 7-8 months ago I’ve heard of this rule of 31 but didn’t know what it was or what it meant. I’ve always just picked a spot to stand and an arrow to aim at never aimed at anything down lane. So the idea would be to draw a line back from your break point to your arrow at whatever angle you want to play? At what point would you play more angular rather than straighter?
Look for what the ball is doing before the breakpoint. If you see it jumping early from the mid lane friction, that’s your cue to jump inside and play with more angle, but to the same breakpoint.
@@jrproshop thanks I think this is honestly going to help me a lot. I don’t know why I haven’t seen any other videos talking about this. I struggle a lot with consistency and a big part of it is probably because I only focus on hitting my target at the arrows and don’t really pay much attention to what happens next. A lot of times I’ll feel like it was a good shot because I hit my target but then when it gets down lane it’s probably not hitting the target down there. I can’t wait to get out on the lanes again and see what happens
I don't use the rule of 31 all the time. During practice, I will stand as far right as I can and play up the gutter, then move my eyes and feet parallel in until I hit the pocket. Then I'll use that point as my breakpoint.
I use the rule of 31. But my main house has a lot of friction on the outside. We are on a 45 foot 2.5 to 1 ratio pattern. We are able to play 12 or straight up 6.
Im 63 and have bowled from about 10 to 40 years old and never heard of this. I knew the lanes were oiled. I probably averaged about 165 to 175 so a decent amature. I think this stuff is for full time pros. Just my opinion.
My house has a very inconsistent machine either that or patterns are switching and we are being lied to. Monday, Tuesday league is a lot Drier and has earlier hook and Friday league is very slick and has a lot of skid and slide. Same lanes same machine
@JR Pro Shop, first of all, thank you for the video breakdown of what to look for on oil patterns and break-points. I have a suggestion but, have you guys thought about doing two video shots? Meaning, have your normal straight on video shot but, also have an overhead view? I would like to see the placement of the tape on the breakpoint, to get a better idea of how the ball breaks to the pins. Thanks again!
I have a tournament coming up on the 45’ Route 66 and watching this just told me where to play so thanks for that! I just had the Physix drilled up yesterday specially for this pattern! Great video!
I use the rule of 31 as a start point. Question though, how do you use tye rule at a tournament that does not share the pattern. Some tournaments I bowl do not publish the graph.
Good question you'll have to guesstimate the pattern length in warmup from when your ball reacts. You should know within 2-3 shots the approximate length and go from there
I try to use the rule of 31 but even though I know where to get the ball at the breakpoint, how do I figure out where to start with my feet and what angle to take to get there?
Love both Simoo & Jimoo bowling on the lane. I don't follow the rule all the time, especially when the lane starts to burn. I usually use it as the lane is in fresh condition. BTW, I really look forwards to more two-handed bowling videos and the tips I could learn to improve my game. Love you guys!
I've tried to ask the mechanic things like what pattern do we bowl on for league, what kind of oil, ratio of oil, and he says he has no idea but did say the oil is "mineral oil". What am I supposed to do with this info????
Cool and good video. But what do i do when I through an ball with like 3.5 hook and then change Balls use that same breackpoint but through an ball with 8.0 hook
Is it possible when showing throwing in the ball if you could just show were the bowlers are standing or let us know in video on what board they start. Yes definitely use rule 31 thx. Cheers steve from Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺
@@jrproshop I use and rely on the Rule of 31 with a focal point at the pins, usually a spot on the 6 pin for a THS. There is forgiveness if you miss a board right or left, sometime more.
There's a lot of math into bowling I used to bowl a lot about six times a week I used to be in a bowling team so I used to hit about 200 to 280 a week but I took years off so I'm getting back I just got a wrist brace it turned out my wrist was very weak compared to others so it's helped a lot so far and there's a lot of math in the bowling
When looking at ur break 6:54 point. Do uall look at the arrows and between boards as well to the break point or just the break point only. Or both.. trying to get an idea format. Appreciated the return message on this. Thanku Rick😊
41 feet minus 31 - 10 - Exit Point!!!! Not Breakpoint. 15 - Foullinie - 12 Arrows and you Hit 10 Exit Point. Breakpoint will Be on 7-8. Exit Board -10. You need hit Exit Board!!
Some type of entry level reactive ball, such as a Brunswick Rhino, Hammer Raw, or Storm Tropical Surge. Provides a little bit of hook potential, and the reactive coverstock has more durability than polyester
For lanes that have the markers down lane, the first set of markers (on the 15 boards) starts 34 feet from the foul line, and is 3 feet long. The second set (on the 10 boards) starts at 40 feet, and is also 3 feet long.
