Thanks for adding that slightly offset camera angle when your throwing. In the past you did not do that and it is way better and easier to see whats going on. Very good change/addition. Great Channel.
I’m bowling in scratch league and we just started bowling on a 39ft pattern. I’m glad I watched this video because what I ended up doing to score was correct (move right and up the ditch). I used a hustle inc though but as you mentioned earlier I have a lower rev rate but bunch of speed so…. Keep up the great videos
Question: why don't you use a reactive ball with a short pin layout? If you use urethane in a short pattern, what grit do you use on your Pitch Black. SUBSCRIBED.
Man you guys that is exactly what I have been struggling with the last few weeks and like you I thought I need to move left? Nope wouldn't hook, so moved back right was having some success going Brooklyn but that's not what we want right? So I have the new Motiv Venom Blue Coral 15.2pds I went from my usual 13.5 mph to 15-15.5 mph and came up the back more, quite a bit, and oh man talk about f-rollout! You can just see that thing building energy and it get down there and makes that little turn gradually and just hit and goes right out the back between the eight and nine thing of beauty! So yeah I've been watching you guys for a while and You're Dead on on that analysis I recommend it to everybody on the short pattern and I'm just a rookie but I'm getting better everyday took third place in my 4th of July tournament say what? Saddleback Lanes mission Viejo California!
Bowled a sweeper on cheetah a few weeks ago. Shot 465 and needed 211 last game just to get that much. So tough especially when all I had at the time was a Zen and a Helios. I now understand why you guys throw mainly straight at all spares too. These short flat patterns are freaking tough.
Excellent video. Going through a slump and with a pattern in my league had me totally confused. These tips are most helpful and looking forward to trying them out. 👍🏾
Bowling in my first sport tourney in two weeks. I'm a tweener and unfortunately have nowhere to practice on a short pattern but this video really helped.
Good video. I bowled on a bone-dry lane last weekend, struggled with over-hooking the ball, had my best games just throwing a spare ball 😂 would this be a viable strategy for short oil patterns?
Not usually, because dry house lanes etc. are dry from the foul line to the break point. This pattern is short yes, but it has a lot of oil from the line flat across the lane so you can stand right and get it down to the breakpoint. So it all depends reading front to back when the ball hooks / rolls out. cause it it moves way early, then you're only option is way left and extreme angles and or loft. or both.
Ok please show us how to use ur eye method frm the arrows to ur target area. Frm release to ur target n to the strike zone..how to use ur eyes as to what to look for down lane.. just like the golfers???
@Brad and Kyle I am a bit new to throwing urethane. Would you recommend surface changes in practice to help in cases like the one you ran into in this video?
Excellent content guys. One thing I would have changed would be for you to throw the urethane ball a few times before you use it as an example. Urethane balls need 3-4 shots (at least) to get some oil on them before they provide a consistent reaction. Urethane needs to calm down, and until that happens you cannot use it to make adjustments. Otherwise you will be making adjustments based on inaccurate ball reaction.
They did it perfect. If they didn’t show that other people might not know that and change balls again. The point of these videos is to show mistakes and learn how to adjust and understand why it’s doing that.
I’m a 2 fingered bowler. No thumb. Can’t do it, lol. So naturally I have a ton of rev when I throw. Had a shorter or drier pattern last weekend. Took a shot in the dark and just used my middle finger to reduce rev. Carried pretty darn nice. The little adjustments make a big difference sometimes.
same here man, it's definitely a struggle getting probably near 510 revs and playing on short. and somehow I've never thought of taking my ring finger out to reduce my revs 🤷🏻♂️👀
@@WombzyR6 I bowl with my parents for fun, but I’m competitive. My mom kicks ass so much, lol. She’s 67. She can run a 500 series no problem. I had a 169 average in leagues, she had a 123. Now she kicks my butt, lol. It was a trial. Who knows come next week. I’m friends with the owner, but oil on a Saturday morning is sketchy at best. Worth a try though!
@@jabawockee199 yeah man I'm kinda in the same boat, my dad's also 65 and still bowls fairly often 240+ games and we dont bowl leagues just yet but his average is usually around 190 - 210 lately 👌🏼 mine is also around 170 or so like you so can definitely relate 🤷🏻♂️😂
@@jabawockee199 also I used to go on a sunday where they haven't been oiled in over 4 days so they're BURNT up, but nowadays I just go on the day the oil em so I don't have to worry about that anymore lol
@@WombzyR6 my dad’s lost a lot of his “swagger.” He’s at a point where he doesn’t wanna bowl anymore. He’s also the “get off my lawn” type. He won’t listen to me or mom. Stubborn ass, lol. He’s like “I know what I’m doing wrong!” I reply with “ya? Than fix it and quit bitching!” 🤣
Hi guys. I have seen in a lot of tournament All lefty player throw urethanic ball on every pattern. Do you think si really possibile for lefty to use only urethanic arsenal? Two purple hammer or pitch black with differenti layout maybe and a stronger one like UC3 or Pink Widow urethane ?
Any suggestion for lanes that are totally dry? I bowl on a military base that doesn’t see much action, but only gets oiled once in three weeks. They use the bourbon street pattern everytime. I’m throwing a Storm Tropical Surge and a Phase 2. Thanks guys.
Helios is probably too strong for short, especially if you only bowl with 2 fingers and no thumb, you might wanna invest in a purple hammer if you don't already have one
not really. The only reason lofting would work is due to the speed it takes to loft. So the loft isn't exactly would be helping more than the speed. THe loft etc. really only comes into play once a ton of urethane and traffic go down the lane through a block and you have some hold in the middle that you can loft over dried out fronts to get too.
So much great information, just a little too late for me because I bowled on short last night and was totally lost 😂, wish I would've watched this before I bowled
Lol I had to come to this video because I'm getting my ass kicked in this same house on this pattern....and doing the exact same thing Brad is 😂 (which when the lanes dry out enough for my Hustles I'm good to go)
Damn, I could have used this video to start my scratch summer league. We started with a 32 foot pattern and we move up every 4 weeks. Right now we are on scorpion and I’m doing a lot better!
I haven’t played on a sport shot before, can someone who has experience with short patterns tell me why pro players use urethane on short patterns instead of a weaker reactive resin ball like a storm twist?
The weaker reactive aren’t going to roll out or hook stop which is what you need. Urethane will burn all its energy in the front part of the lane so on the backend the ball will not hook making the short patterns easier to play. Using the weak reactive save it’s energy till the backend meaning that the ball will look good on the front part of the lane but as soon as it sees the friction it’s going to take a hard left, sometimes even hooking more than a strong bowling ball. Strong asyms are thrown on short patterns because like urethane they burn all of their energy during the front part of the lane giving you a hook stop motion which will be the most controllable
Urethane blends the lane front to back better than reactive does. Reactives (especially the weaker ones) are too senitive to the oil and dry which makes your ball motion very twitchy and unpredictable. Short oil with carrydown is a nightmare for a weaker reactive. Urethane reads the lane much earlier which is fitting especially if you like to play up the rail because if you miss a little out, you can get your ball to pick up early enough to not slide in the channel. Urethane is also more gradual in its motion than reactive at the end of the pattern. Reactive can sometimes give you that skate in the oil and "stand up" hard on the friction motion. This would force you to open up your angles but your miss area would be very small and carry might suffer too. If you do decide to throw reactive, put some surface on it.
depending on what day they filmed this injury could be why. Kyle withdrew from PBA league for that reason. Hope whatever the issue is he gets 100% fast because he and the bald eagle have some tournaments soon to rock! love the content
With a shiny ball you will have to play inside between boards 15 to 20 with more arm lift and less revs. Even the dull surface balls like Urethane play inside with a strong swing and lift between boards 15 to 20.
It seems very counter intuitive, but on shorter patterns you will predominantly see players play outside. When trying to move left, the ball wants to hook earlier and earlier. So, you play close to the gutter to get your ball to go down the lane longer and not overhook!
Bowling on viper here in a month what tips would y’all give?? For me 10 to the left side flies to much what y’all think? I need most help during transition bc the oil patter is so thick and transition can get really nasty
As a guy with a rev rate of 580+, I love short patterns for how challenging they are and how well I can anger others with my urethane. The problem comes when I NEED to throw plastic.
Funny as a reflection to your excitement about everyone turning to urethane to beat the sport patterns. Seems PBA made the right decision on banning such equipment.
