Another very good review & comparison. I think the Zacapa sells alot more, though it's believed to have added sugar. Diplomatico (Venezuela) vs Dictador (Colombia) is another good comparison too.

Thanks for the tip. I did want to compare the Diplomatico to another rum, I will look at getting the Dictador. Cheers.

Santa teresa is my go to rum (gran reserva) which is a tier down from the 1796 but it is still excellent for most parties and events. I do get the 1796 for more fancy occasions. I actually visited the facility where santa teresa is made a few times and its a beautiful place, very traditional, they really care about the product.

Good comparison, I prefer Santa Teresa indeed. By the way I suggest you to try Diplomatico Seleccion de Familia...that is my favourite one. Another fantastic one is the Ron Dos Maderas 5+5. On the podium also the Rhum J.M. XO from Martinique, spectacular!

Thank you. They both really evolve over time. The Santa Teresa grew in flavor, the the Ron Zacapa changed from chocolate bitter notes to whiskey forward notes.

Two very good rums in my opinion. The Zacapa is more on the sweet side, toffee and caramel flavors. The Santa Teresa has a more dry and woody flavor. I recommend the Dictador 21 from Colombia as well.

I think people tend to gravitate towards the Zacappa due to thought of it being a 23yr old rum . Great marketing by them I would say. I think the Zacappa XO is better than the 23 and the Teresa. My opinion though. By the way, great channel. 👍

The Zacappa XO is definitely better, it's not even comparable. But for the price of the XO you can buy a Zacappa 23, a Teresa 1796, and you still get change in your pocket.

That Ron Zacapa 23 has a special place in my heart... I’ve opened it last but first to go of all my rums...You should always have something to cleanse the palate between each rum....Ron Zacapa 23 is a staple on my bar, I don’t care for the added sugar but it’s really enjoyable 👍🏽🥃🇰🇳🇻🇮

You should try Cuban Rum ( not diluted much in sugars ) and you will feel the difference. Ron Santiago 11 years Extra Añejo or Havana Club Selección de Maestros, I’ve tried that Zacapa and I just got hit and tried the Santa Teresa, very good rums but they are heavy In sugars. Nevertheless good rums.

I agree with you the taste is decent but nothing all that special. Now the packaging is a whole new story. I wish the rum match up to the packaging. The color is beautiful but it just needs a bigger flavor. I read where it's made to be a dry style and I would say that is accurate but I will pass once mine is empty. The Dos Maderas 5+5 will be better money spent.

I am a long time Zacapa 23 drinker. Have loved the taste even though there is a bit of a burn. In the last 2 years I’ve received 2 bottles of Zacapa XO as gifts and I thought I was in heaven. No burn and fantastic taste neat. On a recent trip to Punta Cana the resort was out of XO so I asked for something similar. Fir half the price they gave me a Santa Theresa 1796. WOW is all I’ve got to say. Equal to the XO in taste and here in Florida I can get a bottle fir $40 compared to $110 for the XO. I guess I’ve found my new sipper!

When it comes to Zacapa 23-it's definitely not "my cup of tea" due to much sweetness. I prefer rums on the drier profile cause consuming tons of sugar ruins people's health and sugar is more dangereos for health than drinks of spirits (by measure of course)

@gavindc2507
@gavindc2507 3 года назад
Not a fan of either rum, but there is a special place reserved in hell for Zacapa for a number of reasons. 1. They add about 20 grams per litre of sugar, so clearly hiding some god awful harshness (Should it still be called rum with that much sugar added?). 2. Fooling your average consumer by putting a 23 on the bottle making consumers think it's aged 23years when it's actually solera aged. (I'm a firm believer that the age statement on the bottle should be the youngest rum in the bottle, which is the rule for whisky) 3. It is massively overpriced. A rum that is quite young with so many additives could easily be sold for $20 a bottle, but just like "premium" vodka, the marketing department have done a fantastic job in brainwashing the consumer into believing this is a premium rum.
