Life saver. I felt like I was constantly racing against time when editing a video and seeing my storage slowing packing up. Moving everything to an external drive to edit will be much easier!
Thanks for your help. Really helpful. You save me from Heart ache 💔. Just bought imac pro with little SSD space.. hope someone else find this wonderful. Thumb up 👍👍👍👍
Great video thanks a lot. Have you noticed any performance issues when using an external SSD for editing and library storage, compared to the internal SSD?
Thank you infinity Serge! This has answered a ton of questions for me. One more question though: can I get an HDD external hard drive and save the money or should I definitely get a SSD external hard drive for Final Cut Pro?
I’ve often thought the same thing. I had to come up with my own way of keeping straight with pics and words! All 3 terms are too related in terms of what a video editor might think.
I also need this as I am vlogger and I make video for my tour of all days so how to set every day video on fcp and how to organise it like first day video, second day video and third day video etc.. like library, event and project . hope you consider
Sorry quick question if you have time - I have actually already turned off background rendering for my project which explains why my FCP library is actually quite small already BUT I am getting dropped frames sometimes (only when I opt for quality playback rather than performance) so for that part of the project I need to actually turn ON rendering to fix this...? And then delete those render files at some later point? Again, many thanks for all of your awesome straightforward videos. You are my goto for anything FCP!
Hello - Great video! I have subscribed. I do have a question for you about running Final Cut in an external hard drive. The library that you created in the video called "Demo" is exclusively for the video that you're editing at the time or will that be your everything that is edited on the hardrive folder? I guess my question is if that is a process I will need to do every time I start editing a new video or project? Sorry for the question, but I am new to all of this. Hehe
quick question, does making a copy from one drive to the Final Cut Pro library change the speed at which it works? 1 external ssd I have is much faster than another. thank you!
Hello; I am having a problem using FC on my new M1. FC opens but when I try to open a library from external hard drive, it won't open and the "open" tab does nothing, it stays dark. Any ideas what might be wrong? Thanks so much for your videos.
Do final cut pro rendering files get over-written when you make a change to the clip or does final cut pro create a new render file and leave the old render file in place? For instance, if I render a clip and FCP creates a rendered file, then I add a title to that clip does final cut now have 2 rendered files for the same clip or 2 rendered files?
Thanks, but if you delete your render files won't this remove all of your rendering on your clips, ie grading etc. ? Then you'll have to render it all again anyway won't you ?
What I would love to be able to do is move my motion templates folder to an external drive. Between my FX Factory plugins, MotionVFX plus, and all of the stuff from Envato Elements I have downloaded, it takes up way too much of my system storage space. Any solutions for this? I tried using sym links in the past but every time I run FCP it recreates the same folders and takes up the space.
