Thank you!!! I finally moved my library after months of thinking about it and saving money for an external hard drive :)

Hi Chris, another great Stupid Raisins tutorial and very timely as I need to rationalize hard disks and move FCP libraries and content. I normally don't copy my media to a Library so two questions - 1) if you have custom Motion content associated with a Library that you want to move what's your workflow to bring it with the moved Library? 2) if you have more than one Project in a Library that you want to archive (say a main edit as the main Project, then another Project for your Instagram story) what is your workflow for archiving the two Projects without duplicating the media?

Hi Rick! Thank you! 1) Consolidate "In Library" 2) It won't duplicate any media if it's inside the same library even if it has multiple projects. Workflow is the same, consolidate "In Library".

Is there a way to relocate/point the entire Movies folder to an external drive, making it the default location, and never having to move any library?
@StupidRaisins
@StupidRaisins 4 месяца назад
Not that I know of but you can set the location of your libraries when you create them and after. support.apple.com/guide/final-cut-pro/set-storage-locations-ver7db6ffe77/mac

I found this very confusing I'm afraid - I just want to move my project to an external hard drive to continue editing it without filling up my Mac any more, how do I do that ? Should I move my library (which presumably includes my event and project) ? Or do I only need to move that project ? Thanks.

same problem (ran out of space and tasks have canceled in background) so when I did this, the full project was not moved, just what had rendered. ultimately having to start over :( the video you responded for the solution is not relevant to this matter.

@@AudreyBradford Sorry you have to start over. That's so frustrating!

I have no idea where you got the windows to do all of that at 0:56 "We're gonna pull this options in"...onwards. If I knew that I could definitely do the rest.
@StupidRaisins
@StupidRaisins Год назад
That's done manually, it was cut on the edit. Just go to where your library location is. You can right click your Library Browser on FCP then select Reveal in Finder, and it will take you there.

Can I use LaCie Hard drive to move library there?
@StupidRaisins
@StupidRaisins Год назад
Yes! You sure can. Most external hard drives will work just fine.

@@StupidRaisins thank you :))) I did it! Finally can work with more media having library moved to 5 TB LaCie:))) yay! my Mac is only 256gb and was worried about moving library on LaCie since I saw somewhere external hard drive have to be formatted to APFS format before moving library but I didn’t format it that way, it’s in ExFAT format (original the way LaCie was when I bought it) and it works fine:) i don’t know if that makes a difference or important what format external hard drive in though
@StupidRaisins
@StupidRaisins Год назад
Yeah 256 fills up fast when video editing. You may want to format it. Take a look at this article: support.apple.com/en-us/HT200243

@@StupidRaisins thank you 😊 very useful link! Will keep that link handy when I purchase another external hard drive:))) Would definitely format my LaCie to that format, wish i could but I have some other files there already and don’t have another external hard drive to transfer them over
@StupidRaisins
@StupidRaisins Год назад
Sounds good. Can you move the files to your 256 temporarily while you format the lacie?
