We all owe Burt Sugarman a debt of gratitude for having the foresight to preserve these treasures in the manner he did (converting the original master tapes to 1 inch then finally to digital). Much of what made that era so special has been lost to time, but through his careful stewardship we will have these incredible performances in perpetuity. Such a gift!! Thank you sir.
And some of the ' Top of The Pops' were saved, don't know who did that, but thanks to them as well. BBC had a habit of taping over old shows and we're lucky some were saved. Same with the Monty Python episodes.
Yes. I agree. The vocal, arrangment and orchestra melodies so perfect. Listen these song o only vocals and only instrumental in separeted. Pure perfection.❤
Oldies lovers, get “the midnight specials” dvd set. It has all the songs we love live. So many artists performed on midnight special. If I’m trying to think of a group, I picture their name in those red lights and then I remember.
The harmony gives me the same goosebumps every time I hear it. This is so clear you can hear separate mics. Incredible Mo is singing low harmony when the chorus starts and switches to high as it concludes. Barry on lead, Barry and Robin together are spectacular.
@@donaldbeard6231 I was laughed too for liking the Bee Gees... The crap my generation listened too is done and gone, the Bee Gees remain ... who's laughing now
It's amazing that the Bee Gees were on the show 5 times in 1973 when their career was pretty much in the doldrums at that time. The Midnight Special may have been responsible for keeping them going.
The music industry and record companies wanted another kind of music. Noisier, simpler chords, fewer orchestras (higher cost). But the great songwriters and singers knew how to reinvent themselves and the change took them to the top of the Galaxy.
I agree, it's literally bonkers how many truly class songs these guys penned. They definitely sit at the Top Table of Musical Royalty along with just a handful of equally talented musicians.
I remember being a young teen, watching this late one night, and seeing Barry for the first time… “WHO is THIS?!?” OMG, it was the beginning of a 50 year love affair with The Bee Gees (and Barry).
Same here. That man was absolutely gorgeous. There will never be another group who can come anywhere close to pulling off those effortless tight harmonies.
That is an amazingly fine performance. Barry always dresses to impress, but I do have to give a mention to Maurice’s fine ensemble. Love the psychedelic checkered blue and green vest, and the green pants. And I’m in agreement with everybody else, it’s nice to be able to hear Mo. Now back on Barry; that striking profile when he flips his abundant hair back and looks up: strong chin, lips, nose. Makes one want to plant a wet one somewhere on the vicinity, lol.
One of the things I see often from Maurice and Robin in interviews is how, when people asked them about being twins they both were very quick to include Barry in their group, saying they consider him one of them. Then make a joke that Barry’s just “bigger”, or calling him “deformed”, lol. They didn’t like him to be left out, at all. They truly loved each other and were one. It comes out in their music. So I really do think their relationship was not like people think, and that people don’t understand how close they really were-they were like one person. And only THEY knew. Barry said this in a more recent interview.
Yes, I think you're right. Mo once said they were like triplets but born 3 yrs apart. Everyone's always using the "twin thing" on Barry....like Mo & Robin were so close, so how does Barry know how Robin felt when Mo passed? That's such an absurd thing to say when Barry & Mo lived together in Miami for 30 yrs while raising their families, working, touring, traveling & hanging out. They make it sound as if Mo's death wasn't as hard on Barry as Robin, which isn't true. Barry & Mo's families enjoyed similar outdoor stuff together, while Robin was more of an indoor person & didn't often participate in family fun.
They all lost mo of course but for robin they were twins same birthday and reached milestones together robin called it like losing limbs but of course as brothers they all experienced the loss of mo ❤️❤️ but I can't imagine
Such a beautiful song. It can’t be stressed enough that their harmonies are spectacular and they are amazing live. Barry’s short-lived blonde phase. 😁 While I am absolutely a “Barry girl”, Robin’s voice soars and I love the contrast to Barry’s soulful natural voice.
Holy Moly, this youtube channel! All the Bee Gees clips. You're doing a great public service. I love the Brothers but I wasn't born yet when "The Midnight Special" was on TV.
I absolutely love and adore this song. One of my all time faves of theirs. The words are so beautiful. They are the BEST songwriters ever. The harmonies are other wordly. And my Barry as always reaching down into his soul singing with so much emotion and feeling. He gives me chills everytime I listen to it. He touches a place down in my heart and soul that ONLY he can touch. He truly is a "gift"❤️ The Brothers Gibb are..PERFECTION. THEY ARE TIMELESS.I have so much love for them.❤️❤️❤️ BEE GEES FOREVER💙💙💙🎶🎸
Lol 😂 my wife was a hard core country music fan Until we watched the midnight special and saw the BGS LOL 😅and she saw Barry Gib and she became a BGS fan right then lol 😂 I almost or should I say got a little jealous or should I be honest and say I got jealous and pissed or should I say I still love the BGS and don't know how she feels because she is married to someone else lol 😂 don't know about her but the BGS are still super stars ⭐ to me. 😊
These clips are great and the picture and sound are terrific... my wish is to have entire intact shows instead of broken up into clips ... The Bee Gees are so great, this was at a time just before the change to their 70's dominance
I had listen to this song for many years in a CD player and never got to see them performing it live. I'm blown away by Maurice Gibb's vocals mixing high and low voices in just one chorus. A chorus that always gave me chills on the radio, gives me chills now seeing them live.
So great and beautiful. Here, such a clean sound with a wonderful singin', where also Maurice shines. His ability in singin' both lower and higher harmony-parts is significant.
Not sure if they created the genre called disco. Moving to Miami changed their style that I think improved what is called 'disco'. Disco was basically crap dance music, however some artists started to write some very good songs that fitted in the disco genre.
Love this song and performance. Awesome to clearly hear all three voices. Just finished watching your Bee Gees playlist. Absolutely fantastic. So many amazing performances! One of my favorites was with Wilson Pickett and they sang Hey Jude. So much energy and soul, and they all looked like they were having so much fun! Thanks for sharing these great clips!
