I would agree with you, yet there are many current bands that sound great, yes they are not as famous and I can only hope they do become as famous as the Bee Gees but I'd suggest you check out bands like The milk carton kids (I know, don't be fooled by their name haha), check out their song Michigan for instance, other artists I can think of are a few that came together to cover a Neil Young song, they are AJ Lee and the Brothers Comatose (again, don't pay attention to names haha) and their rendition of Harvest moon, although it's not an original of theirs it's gorgeous! Outside of full on three part harmonies though I'd recommend for instance the Tedeschi Trucks Band and their beautiful vocalists, the lead singer is a very good guitar player as well, her husband who plays slide and other styles is legendary, their backup vocalists are top notch and even their hammond/keyboard player is a great singer! They have a horn section, two drummers, they are amazing!! Look for them live on here, some people posted great shows of theirs just a few days ago in Atlanta! Also, I just thought of another great duo with great harmonies, Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlngs, they might have parted now (though I'm not sure) but were still performing, writing and singing beautiful harmonies just a few years back. Many other bands that are not famous as Lady Gaga but what can you do, it's up to us to put them out there and buy their work and go see them live (financially support their efforts, as back in the Bee Gees days it was "much easier", now the internet gives it up for free...).
Barry was always considered the best looking one, but y'know there's just something about Robin's quirky looks that gets me 🥰 And his quavering vibrato... Nothing else like it! All three (four, with Andy) were AMAZINGLY talented.
They had a whole career before Saturday Night Fever. I love their early music. They really were very, very talented and get painted with a broad brush re: disco years.
Look kids - three brothers, playing instruments, singing in perfect harmony - no auto tune, singing timeless classic songs they wrote themselves flawlessly in front of a live audience. It used to be what a performer needed to be considered a talent.
Any idea how old they were in this clip? Such sublime talent, song writers, singers, performers. Each thing is a unique skill set. They just had it all.
The Midnight Special days were the best. So much good music on the TV every week, and when the Bee Gees were on they were always fantastic. I miss those days and the Bee Gees.
If you're here...you probably know the songs already....for those who don't 00:00 New York Mining Disaster 1941 01:29 I Started A Joke 02:20 Massachusetts 03:53 How Can You Mend A Broken Heart? Amazing stuff!! I remember seeing this as a young kid, when it first aired. Great then, and even greater now! WOW!
We used to get together for The Midnight Special. The harder bands came on in the late part of the show. Today's " artists" could never do what these artists did back then. I grew up to their best music, before Disco and I started a Joke got to everyone...Such a beautiful song. Robin was a gift to all of us. Robin's voice was...... Angelic .... All 3 of them was perfection..
Success with the disco stuff and some people completely underated and tarnished them but that was just 5% of what they truly were. A genius vocal group unrivalled
So true.. I have to admit and I apologize to them. Like every day... 1979 disco sucks. It was just what we did.... Saturday night fever.. for most of us there in the Midwest. But wow, I'm revisiting the Bee Gees this past year and I listen to them every day. I cannot get enough and I'm grateful that we have these recordings and every song of theirs. I absolutely❤ FYI, Robin is my fave!! Check out his dance moves! FYI still have never seen Saturday night fever 😬 their music came out before the movie so..
No matter what they did you always knew it was them, nobody sounded like them. Most of their music usually made you feel better. Even Saturday Night Fever was a great soundtrack even if you didn’t like disco.
I'm gonna say it, in my teens I was not a Bee Gee's fan. That being said, now at 65, I am astounded at their harmonies. Live, they are unequalled. I have come to truly appreciate them so much over the years.
Perfect leadvocals of Barry and Robin to hear like nearly always. But also listen to Maurice, doin' harmonies on point. Sometimes a lower third voice and even the highest to hear on these tracks.
They were so talented, so versatile, so harmonious. The greatest ever. Far better than the Beatles in my book without taking anything away from the Liverpool lads of course…
These brothers we born to be musicians. Not only they could sing, they were creative song writers and adapted to changes that occurred over the 60s, 70s and 80s. Their downfall was their very high output of songs that made them dominate the music industry during the late 70s. Easily one of the most melodic group of singers that did not need any props or backup.
I wasn't alive when this stuff aired but being able to experience musical performances like this for the first time and with such visual/audio clarity is such a treat! Thank you, folks at Midnight Special, it means a lot and I hope you keep going!
Or at least ONE close-up of Mo's sweet face!🤓?(#PoorMo!🤐lol.) But Otherwise, another excellent Midnight Special video!!!😍😎 AND Robin took lead on almost every song, even during the medley!😊 Love these! Please, Keep them Coming!!😉
@@ellenmontgomery8533 And you wonder WHY Mo told Lynn Redgrave that he often felt unworthy, like he didn't pull his own weight!?🤔😜 I'm just kidding around, of course! (However Mo did say that, or something along that line?) BUT, all Bullshit aside, Mo was simply caught between TWO Very Heavy Weight Contenders in this Mega Talented band of Brothers!! Mo was Verrry Talented himself, of course!,😎 ...just not a strong lead-vocalist as both Barry and Robin??
@@gloriamaryhaywood2217 Mo hardly ever sang lead, so he didn't have a hit song that they could include in the medley. I loved Mo's voice too, but I agree, not as strong as Barry's, and not as knock your socks off like Robin's. It's sad that he felt he wasn't pulling his own weight, the Bee Gees would not have been the same without him, or even stayed together all those years.
I always looked forward throughout the decades for their medley at every live performance and, in my opinion, it didn't get any better than that. Usually two guitars and three amazing men singing behind one microphone. Sheer perfection!
