Runaway Truck Crashes In To House - Rotator Lift And Winch

We were called for a dump truck that lost it brakes and crashed in to a house. The truck was stuck on the gas tank on one side and the house on the other. If we just winched the truck, it would have ripped the gas tank off, causing a major fuel spill. We lifted the truck square, then lifted the front and winched it towards us. Lifting it prevented a fuel spill and additonal damage.

Let me get this straight, operator "CLAIMS" his brakes failed, causing the accident, and is allowed to drive the POS away with said failed brakes? Seriously? Wouldn't the Police and possibly you and your company be liable for the next crash when he leaves the scene with the same failed brakes that supposedly caused the prior accident? That pile should by all rights have been towed and impounded pending an inspection to 1) prove the condition of the brake system, 2) Safety/Roadworthy inspection.
@vanlingengroup9767
@vanlingengroup9767 5 лет назад
We would not be liable. That would fall on the owner of the truck. Our job was to remove the truck from the spot it was in.

11:36 Love the recovery guys response to the know-it-all truck drivers situational analysis, "...don't worry, be happy". That's a fact. If he or his boss didn't defer maintenance on the truck, they won't be in this situation. Shut up & let the professionals pull you out of your accident. The drivers company now owes for a recovery bill, vehicle repair, repair to the house & maybe a civil suit. That company is damn lucky no bystanders got hurt.

You are right. Luckily it went in to the house and not all the way down the street.

Ditto on the other comments. In a perfect world, police or DOT would have red flagged that truck and had it hauled away and off the road until it was reinspected and determined to be safe. Bet the homeowner never see's a dime to recover the damages and these guys just go on to put others aT risk. What you called a block of wood he calls his parking brake!

A rug over the cable has been proven to not work. That is a myth. We ensure we are within WLL, so we have don’t have to worry about something breaking. There were several cracked welds, good eye.

Funny thing is the front frame channels would be the ideal place to lift once the boom is extended that far it will only lift 100 pounds. I watched two rotators fight all day trying to upright and load a fully loaded shipping container. The frames were twisting and the outriggers were in the air to no avail. The next day, a 80s' era three axle entry level crane with counter weights came and did it by itself in less than an hour.

I'm pretty sure that truck would not have been stuck in the driveway regardless if the old guy turned the wheel or not. You could have lifted the rear up {blue} then winch in [yellow] off front stabilizer to square up truck in driveway. They did'nt even get the hooks off and the Mexicans started doing body work on the truck rofl.

At around the 12:00 minute mark it sounded like you were getting a lot of 'instructions' not only from your dad but also the 'peanut gallery". I applaud you for keeping your cool. Also at around the 36:00 mark I was wondering why you didn't use two chains and both cables for better control of the back end of that truck?
@vanlingengroup9767
@vanlingengroup9767 5 лет назад
The load was all the way in the front of the truck. We kept one side of the truck on the ground so we didn’t feel two cables were necessary.

@Van Lingen Group Can't argue with success, but just as food for thought: would it have been more or less useful to have used _orange_ as the low-line to where you had yellow, and had yellow as a low-line to the tail of the dump truck (where you did the initial lift with blue+green)? To help bring the tail around? Might have saved you that second re-rig, if you were in a hurry.
@vanlingengroup9767
@vanlingengroup9767 5 лет назад
If we were to re do the recovery we would have attached both low lines. Like you said pulled the rear and pulled it towards us. Great eyes. Sometimes on scene it doesn’t look the same as behind the camera.

Truck should have been straight back not on an angle back. You will hit the house and cause more damage. Think vectors and angles. Way off line. I'm back to Ron Pratt - he has more experience and a better truck.
@vanlingengroup9767
@vanlingengroup9767 5 лет назад
We didn’t touch the house. This was the best spot for our truck. If you knew anything about this profession you would understand Ron Pratt does unsafe recoveries. He continues to winch against his house lock on his boom. To each their own, have fun with his videos. Keep on keeping on from that couch!
@jamesflori8934
@jamesflori8934 5 лет назад
This is one of the most unprofessional displays I have ever seen not to mention very unsafe with hanging hooks, crossed lines interfering with other lines, having other people (truck owner) working on the vehicle while not secure and in dangerous positions . OMG how do you stay in business. Look at some of the other towing channels an learn how to conduct yourselves and proper safety techniques.
@vanlingengroup9767
@vanlingengroup9767 5 лет назад
Let’s start at the top cowboy.... what makes the hanging lines unsafe? You hang them Incase you need them. What lines were crossed? When they were working on it the aux line was holding the truck. I guess we have been “lucky” for 72 years! Please tell me which videos I “should watch” because we all know we should learn how to recover a casualty from RU-vid right? 😂🥴
