Check this old footage out of Halton town "Runcorn" in the seventies. See if you can spot where you live now and see how much it's changed - also cracking footage of the Shopping City and it's approaching busway's.
Omg, just found this vlog , I lived on Meadway just off Halton Brook avenue. Went to the Grange Comprehensive, and hated every minute doing cross country for PE with the wind blowing off the Mersey running around the school field. My fondest memory back as a kid was Mr Jones our PE teacher and football coach, his passion and drive still lives with me to this day. If it wasn’t for him I don’t think I’d be where I am today without hard work. My aunty Eileen lived on Halton lodge and Southfields and I still remember the scousers fighting the wollybacks in the late 70’s………. Wow so bland to see this, memories for a lifetime!
As a child i lived in deer park square, then rosam grove, then Clayton crescent, moved to Macclesfield when i was 11, now 51..... seeing my early years am through an old mans eyes.
First lived in Beechwood then Frodsham as a kid.Remember the Old Town vaguely.During the 80s went to the shopping city for fruitless attempts to look for work at the jobcentre always remember the maisonettes with the weird round windows. Its changed now,its still there but theyve built a square with houses right where the bus station was.
Wow I lived in Rothesay close castle fields in 1983 but sadly we were only there a year and my mum died suddenly age 48,we had family all over Runcorn though,I went to Norton priory which was a shithole
@StuffOffYouStuff no pal,I left Runcorn in 1990,met a girl from Leeds and settled there, been there ever since,I lived on centurion Row,used to go the old youth club near castlefields centre, knocked about with big Tony crane, ste o'leary and the lads from the fiddlers three pub, that was my local, people called the new town a shithhole, but I have fond memories of it as a kid, belive the school and the recreation centre burned down, used to get called will Beck back then, was a wild lad, calmed down nown,at 61 I should hope so !,good luck to everyone I knew there utft1878 you can stick your points deductions up your arse ! 💙
Great vid, with lots of happy memories, it's not grim, Liverpool's grim, that's why Runcorn was built, in it's day, Runcorn was THE place to move to, unfortunately shit parenting lead to it's demise & the rise of the trackie wearing scally got a grip. I'll never forget the views from Ferry View at night. Unrivalled & unrecognised. Poor tosn planning design ultimately lead to it's demise, as cars started becoming more prominent with increased wealth, the busway (a world 1st) was a great concept, but was a pain in the arse crossing. Believe me, moving from West Derby in 82' to Runcorn was akin to moving from Soweto to Hawaii.🤣
I have bittersweet memories of runcorn we lived at greenbridge close castlefields from 1975 to 1980 when I was a kid and went to norton priory school ,
Do you remember a kid called will Beck, terrorised Norton priory from about 73 to 78,I loved the place, especially the science lab, nearly blew it up more than once! utft1878 💙 ( used to go to the old castlefields youthy, drank in the fidds) utft1878 💙
@@williambeck1574 you must have been in 5th or 6th form when i started there. Ive been told that its all torn down now. I think the fiddlers is closed down aswell
@jimosmond2082 belive me I was never in the 6th form, I got expelled in 1978 when I was 16 for smacking a PE teacher called Mr Ruth with a cricket bat ! I'd just come back after a months suspension for having a go at a guy called Mr Robinson, I think he was deputy head, he was a man United fan so he deserved it !,I also had it in for a Mr Edwards who was a French teacher ,I used to terrorise him in the language lab just plain didn't like him, told him to f##k off and live in France if he loved it so much ! That didn't go down to well either, don't know if you remember any of them probably all dead now
@jimosmond2082 ps I used to go out with a girl called carrina knox who lived at number one greenbridge close, her ma was a cockney dinner lady at Norton
As an outsider, the main problem with Runcorn is the dire road design that terrible circuit that just cuts everywhere off and makes moving around so difficult, I actually go to Runcorn Shopping city occasionally for a retro yesteryear experience, they could embrace that and deliberately encourage a cool 70's atmosphere, it wouldnt take much
I worked on Southgate on maintenance one block was shut down because the heating system couldn't go the distance to heat it up from a central boiler. so they shut it down. And then demolished all of it .
I prefer the 70's,80's and 90's Runcorn rather than these times. The utopia that never really was,but convincing at the time has gone but its no different in any other new town in Britain.I like Runcorn but it could have been so much better.
