Not just d&d, Tolkien had trolls be weak to the sun, which is essentially just a giant source of fire. And I'm pretty sure even back to like swedish/Danish folklore Sun and heat would ward off trolls.
Love the damage scaling for elemental spells. It makes sense that the same level casting rune would do the same damage with weaknesses factored in separately. Great video!
Love the changes to magic and enemy weaknesses, nostly because im on the barrows grind right now, debating on switching to wind spells over warped sceptre
The weaknesses are only for the standard spell book since the standard spells are really not used beyond the early-mid game a lot. Just to give some love back to the standard elemental spells.
This update is also massive for the tome of water. And as an example, with Black Demons now 40% weaker to water spells + 10% damage boost from the tome, so you absolutely melt through them
Remember that video you made a few years back about how armor is broken in PvP? You were wearing Verac's top, Guthan legs, and just spamming Fire Surge with Harm staff in it. You should try that again with the new magic changes.
I'm actually kinda stoked about the magic change. It was always a little boring to me that fire was the best of the best. Give me a cool fantasy of an insane earth mage or any of the other spells. I have been debting on coming back to play some more and this update might actually bring me back and convince me to start learning how to boss
Trolls being weak to fire to me is the same concept as when Drac is asked by Johnny if he's really afraid of a wooden stake to the heart, and he responds "yeah, but who isnt?". Fire fucks no matter who you are lol
It should, yeah. It's not some magical new weakness to crossbows, crossbows just now do heavy ranged damage and NPC ranged defense was split into three categories, with dragons getting a reduced heavy ranged defense bonus. The DHCB bonus is added on top of the normal accuracy roll made just based on your ranged attack and the enemy's ranged defense, so it should still all work as normal.
Honestly, it sucks that they nerfed early-mid game mage. Occult was the only way that 10% damage buff could be reached. But now? Even with a full set, you max out at 8%. They shouldn't have touched occult, or at least given more magic damage increase options for early/mid to make up for that. Absolutely hate this idea of balancing all around end game, even more so when it hurts and further restricts everything below that. Oh, you were bursting at dust devils using prayer robes? Well now you have to give up either damage or prayer bonus. Typical jagex, only thinking about the end game where players basically play sandbox mode.
It also fucks the end game because now to get the same max hit with max mage with shadow in ToA of 84 you need to bring a boot swap which means full ancestral (3 pieces), magus ring, occult, tormented, shadow, imbued god cape,and now boot swap so 9 way mage swap and pray augury just to hit the same 84 we could do without the boot swap or wasting prayer… boots are legit 2 max hits with mac mage now in ToA. Nobody wants to run 9-10 way swaps. So dumb…. They didnt even poll the magic damage changes which is wild
I mean, if you have Augury that makes up for 4% of the missing dmg, only need to make up 1% more. This only really hurts pures or irons that haven't received Augury. If you have 93 slayer for occult on an Iron you should have the cb stats to run team cox and snake an Arcane. Also, pures can use Mystic might for 2% magic dmg and they can make up the missing 3% from chaos robes or infinity robes/dagon hai if they're zerkers.
Its literally not power creep, they actually nerfed end game mage since now you need a boot swap and pray augury to have the same max hit with shadow as before. The boots are literally 2 max hits with shadow and max mage setup and nobody likes doing 9 way swaps. Long story short, end game mage got nerfed
Its funny that people still play Runescape, considering its whole economy operates through botting and gold selling. I wouldnt touch this game anymore even with a long stick.
The screwed over normal mage void and the tome of fire. The only decent early-mid game mage equipment (apart from the mediocrity that is mystics) for ironmen goes unbuffed and gets nerfed to hell respectively making normal spellbook magic even more niche before as literally the only things you are allowed to fight with it are the short list of monsters with elemental weaknesses. Magic went from feeling like a bad combat style to feeling like a gimmick. Some of the changes are definitely in the right direction and I like them conceptually but in practice they disappoint me.
You'd think aviansies would adopt weakness to earth since they're actively flying in the air why would they be weak to it, I could see maybe strong gusts but idk kree already makes lil tornadoes with attacking. It would add a literal meaning to the whole 2 birds 1 stone thing except itd be one bird with one stone. I would also expect skeletons/barrows be earth or water weakness (bury the dead/throw rocks at bones). Trolls makes more sense to be weak to water no shot those block heads can swim.
